Dolores MacClymont, 66
Was Rosarian; Former Credit Clerk at Bristol-Myers
Dolores T. Kreig MacClymont, 66, of Westfield died on Friday, September 10, 1999 at home.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, she lived in Westfield for 40 years.
Mrs. MacClymont had been a credit clerk for Bristol-Myers in Hillside from 1956 until 1960.
She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Clark, the St. Agnes Chapter of the National Council of Catholic Women, and Helping Hands and Hearts of St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, William T. MacClymont; two sons, David MacClymont and Paul MacClymont; a daughter, Mary O’Brien; a sister, Elaine Paul, and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, September 13, at St. Helen’s Church.
Interment took place at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Louis A. Valenti, 68
Air Force Veteran; Former Salesman with D & M Meats
Louis A. Valenti, 68, of Belleville died on Thursday, September 9, 1999 in Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville.
Born in Roselle Park, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Belleville 28 years ago.
Mr. Valenti had been a salesman for 25 years with D & M Meats in Newark, retiring three years ago.
Prior to that, he had worked in the same capacity for National Gypsum Company in Garwood and Flintkote Company in Rutherford.
He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Valenti; two sons, Louis A. Valenti, Jr. and Richard Valenti; three daughters, Marilou Papasidero, Linda Brannigan and Susan Cannon; two sisters, Margaret Albert and Marion Finn; a brother, Kenneth Valenti, and 13 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Monday, September 13, in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Belleville.
Arrangements were handled by the Megaro Memorial Home in Belleville.
Rhoda A. Rogers, 84
Was Employed As Cafeteria Worker in Westfield
Rhoda A. Rogers, 84, of Seattle, Wash., died on Tuesday, September 7, 1999 in the Aldercrest Health and Rehabilitation Center in Edmunds, Wash.
Born in Kenilworth, she had lived in Westfield, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Colorado before moving to Seattle seven years ago.
Mrs. Rogers had worked in the cafeteria at Westfield High School in Westfield many years ago.
Surviving are three sons, William Rogers, Jr., Richard Rogers and John Rogers; two brothers, Gilbert Collins and Richard Collins, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 13, in the Chapel at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
Arrangements were handled by the Stephen J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service in Madison.
Sister Christina Mauri, 50
Associate At Immaculate Heart of Mary Church
Sister Christina Ann Mauri, 50, died on Monday, September 13, 1999 at Union Hospital in Union.
Born in Philadelphia, she had lived in Elmwood Park and Hillside before moving to Roselle Park this year.
Sister Christina graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School in Philadelphia, received her degree in education from St. Joseph’s College and earned her master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University in The Bronx.
She entered into the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1976 and professed her first vows in 1979 and her final vows in 1985.
Her assignments included St. Teresa’s School in North Tarrytown, N.Y. from 1979 to 1982; Annunciation School in Philadelphia from 1982 to 1983, and St. Anthony’s School in Butler from 1983 to 1987.
Sister Christina also served as Director of Religious Education at St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church in Elmwood Park from 1989 to 1994 and as Pastoral Associate of Catecheticals at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains from 1995 to the present.
She was also a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists from 1971 to 1991 at Mercy Catholic Medical Center.
Surviving is a sister, Teresa McErlan, and a brother, Leonard Mauri.
A concelebrated Funeral Mass will be offered at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church tomorrow, Friday, September 17, at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers, N. Y.
Calling hours will be today, Thursday, September 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Mary Rentrop, 84
Mary Bellish Rentrop, 84, of Baton Rouge, La. died on Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
Born in Tunica, La., she had lived most of her life in Baton Rouge.
She was a member of the University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy R. Rentrop, Sr.; her parents, Steve and Ida Davis Bellish; three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are a son, Roy R. Rentrop, Jr., of Westfield; three sisters, Annie Robert of Gonzales, La., Margaret Sears of New Orleans, La. and Edith Lorio of Rougon, La., and a granddaughter.
Religious services were held yesterday, Wednesday, September 15, at the University United Methodist Church.
Entombment was at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Baton Rouge.

Elwood J. Schaffer, 86
Navy Veteran; Chief Patent Counsel for ASARCO
Elwood Joseph Schaffer, 86, of Westfield died on Monday, September 6, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bath, Pa., he lived in Westfield since 1952.
Mr. Schaffer had been employed by ASARCO Inc. of New York City for 30 years before retiring in 1976 as Chief Patent Counsel.
He received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees, both in Chemical Engineering, in 1934 and 1936, respectively, from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
While at Lehigh University, he was a member of the school’s chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Schaffer also earned a law degree from the University of Baltimore.
Mr. Schaffer served in the United States Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
He was a member of the Westfield Old Guard and of Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Ankeney Schaffer; a son, John Paul Schaffer of Camden, S. C.; a daughter, Martha Schaffer Holloman of Taipei, Taiwan; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 11, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Short Hills.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Jon D. Retzlaff, 50
Jon D. Retzlaff, 50, of Westfield died on Tuesday, September 14, 1999 in St. Peter’s Medical Center in New Brunswick.
Born in Grand Haven, Mich., he lived most of his life in Westfield.
Mr. Retzlaff had worked for the Dover Daily Advance in Dover and for Pitney Bowes in New York City.
He graduated from the University of South Carolina at Columbia in 1971 with a degree in journalism.
He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Retzlaff, and a brother, Arthur “Skip” Retzlaff.
Surviving are his father, Thaddeus “Ted” Retzlaff of Westfield; a brother, Peter Retzlaff of Milltown, and a sister, Virginia Jakubowski of Mountainside.
A funeral service will be offered on Saturday, September 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Westfield.
Arrangements are being handled by the Crabiel Home for Funerals in Milltown.
Rita Marie Scully
Rita Marie Scully of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains.
Ms. Scully was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are her parents, William and Rita Scully; a sister, Loretta Turnage and a brother, William F. Scully.
A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, September 15, at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
