Frances M. Rau, 80
Girl Scout Leader; Co-Founder of St. Bart’s School Library
Frances M. Rau, 80, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, June 17, 1999 at Rahway Hospital.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Roselle before moving to Scotch Plains in 1951.
Mrs. Rau was a member of the Catholic Golden Age at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, and was co-founder of the school library at St. Bartholomew Church.
She was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, where she was also a member of the Rosary Society.
She was also a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Exxon Annuitants Club.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, George J. Rau; three daughters, Judy Grindle, Barbara Sullivan and Dr. Mary Rau; two sons, Dr. Thomas Rau and James Rau; a brother, Robert R. Reilly; a sister, Gene Benson, and six grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday, June 21, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, following the funeral from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Mildred Delaney, 91
Runnells Volunteer; President of Women’s Guild at Church
Mildred Delaney, 91, of Peoria, Arizona, died on Friday, June 11, 1999 at the Town and Country Care Center in Peoria.
Born in Bayonne, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Arizona in 1978.
Mrs. Delaney was a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Westfield and the Summit Fortnightly.
She was also a volunteer at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights.
She was also a President of the Women’s Guild of the First Christian Church in Arizona.
She attended Pace University in New York City.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Delaney of Summit and Marion Meola of Spokane, Washington; three sons, Robert Delaney of Tucson, Arizona, Richard Delaney of Berkeley Heights and Thomas Delaney of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Ruth Powers of Nashau, New Hampshire; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was offered on Wednesday, June 16, at the Corpus Christi Church in Chatham.
Arrangements were handled by the Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, Arizona.
Ernestine Wesley, 69
Ernestine Wesley, 69, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, June 16, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Baltimore, she moved to Scotch Plains 25 years ago.
Mrs. Wesley was employed by Cyntax Laundry in South Plainfield.
Surviving are three sons, John Wesley of Tacoma Park, Maryland, and Warner Wesley and Stacey Wesley, both of Scotch Plains; a daughter, Fay Glover of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Vardrey Pharr and William Pharr of Philadelphia, and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 19, at the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
Hilda E. Tebbs, 84
Was Employed At Department Store and Library
Hilda E. Orton Tebbs, 84, a former resident of Scotch Plains, died on Friday, June 11, 1999 at Northshore Living Center in Slidell, Louisiana.
Born in Coventry, England, she had lived in Scotch Plains from 1924 to 1935.
She had also lived in Plainfield, Middlesex, Somerville, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Austin, Texas, before settling in Slidell.
Mrs. Tebbs had been employed in the infant department at Tepper’s Department Store in Plainfield, and also worked at the Middlesex Public Library.
She was a member of the Bound Brook Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Charles D. Tebbs, in 1985, and by a brother, Harry Orton.
Surviving are a brother, Wilford Orton of Toms River; two sons, C. David Tebbs of Wall and John R. Tebbs of Slidell; two daughters, Barbara Briden of Bound Brook and Linda Ryan of Chincoteague, Virginia; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Bound Brook Presbyterian Church at a later date.

Pasquale Cuccaro, 66
Was Custodian; Member of Local Knights of Columbus
Pasquale Cuccaro, 66, of Westfield died on Wednesday, June 16, 1999 at the home of his son, John Cuccaro, in Ringoes.
Born in Giano Vetusto, Italy, he moved to the United States in 1966 and settled in Westfield.
He had been a custodian for the Westfield Board of Education for 27 years before retiring 1997.
Mr. Cuccaro was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Watterson Council No. 1711 of Westfield.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, June 19, in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment took place at St. Gertrude’s Mausoleum in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Estelle Rinn, 88
Estelle Rinn, 88, of Westfield died on Monday, June 21, 1999 in the Roosevelt Care Center in Edison.
Born in Hoboken, she had lived in Brooklyn before moving to Westfield in 1997.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Flayton.
Surviving are a son, Howard Rinn of Westfield, and two brothers, Philip Freilich and Seymour Freilich, both of Florida; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held yesterday, Wednesday, June 23, in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin.
Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Marshall Yokelson
Metals Engineer, Active in Westfield Community Players
Marshall V. Yokelson of Westfield died on Friday, June 18, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in Bayonne before moving to Westfield in 1956.
Mr. Yokelson worked for General Cable Co. in Edison for 38 years, serving as chief metallurgical engineer from 1967 until his retirement in 1986.
Previously, he had worked as a metallurgist for Chance Vought Aircraft from 1947 to 1948.
He was named a 1985 recipient of the Award of Merit by the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) for his efforts toward the adoption of voluntary national and international standards for refined copper shapes.
He was an active member of the ASTM for more than 32 years, serving as chairman to committees on electrical conductors and copper and copper alloys.
He was also affiliated with the American Society for Metals, which named a scholarship for him, the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and the Wire Association International.
He was a board member and official photographer at the Westfield Community Players. He appeared on stage in small parts.
He and his wife, Beatrice Yokelson, were recently inducted into the Community Players as life members.
He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from City College in New York in 1938 and a master’s degree in metallurgical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1951.
He had served stateside as an ordinance engineering officer in the Navy during World War II before retiring as a captain.
Also surviving are a daughter, Joan Mrocka; a son, Howard Yokelson; a brother, Bernard Yokelson and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21, at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield.
Susie Lilye, 79
Was Retired Operator, Deaconess-Mother of Baptist Church
Susie Spann Lilye, 79, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, June 16, 1999 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Lee County, South Carolina, she had resided in Florence, South Carolina before moving to Plainfield where she lived for 47 years.
Mrs. Lilye was a retired operator of the Injectron Corporation of Plainfield and was formerly employed by the Standard Plastics Corp. of South Plainfield.
She was a deaconess-mother of the Queen City Baptist Church in Plainfield. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens of Plainfield.
She was predeceased by her son, Marlbrough Lilye, and her daughter, Lucretia Best.
Surviving are her son, William Lilye of Camden; her daughter, Alma Reid of Plainfield; her sister, Martha Lee Spann of Plainfield; her brothers, The Reverend Fred Spann of Scotch Plains and Lawrence Spann of Plainfield; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 23, at the Queen City Baptist Church in Plainfield.
Arrangements were handled by Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
