Brian C. Tripodi, 24, of Bridgewater died on Monday, March 20, 2000 at Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth.
Born in Hackettstown, he had lived in Green Township in Sussex County before moving to Bridgewater 11 years ago.
He was a 1993 graduate of Bridgewater High School West.
Surviving are his parents, Charlie and Judy Weinstein Tripodi of Bridgewater; a brother, Kevin Tripodi, stationed in the United States Navy in San Diego; his maternal grandfather, Benjamin Weinstein of Woodbridge; two aunts, Ilona Bentkowski of Maplewood and Jill Weinstein of Point Pleasant; another aunt and uncle, Councilwoman Janis Fried Weinstein and Loren Weinstein of Westfield, and several cousins.
Services were held on Thursday, March 23, at the Leon J. Gerity Funeral Home in Woodbridge. Interment was private.

Helen Catherine Bogert, 88, of Westfield died on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived there before moving to Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Bogert, in 1996, and by a sister, Dorothy Mathews, in 1995.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 22, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Merle R. O’Brien, 69
Merle R. O’Brien, 69, of Cranford died on Saturday, March 25, 2000 in Union Hospital.
Born in Detroit, Mich., he had lived in Westfield before relocating to Cranford 40 years ago.
Mr. O’Brien had worked for Anchor Motor Freight in Linden for 25 years before retiring as traffic manager in 1990.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. O’Brien; a son, Kevin O’Brien; a daughter, Kelly Logiudice, and three grandchildren.
A Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, March 29, in St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church of Clark-Linden.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.
Florence Johnson, 76
Florence M. Johnson, 76, of Mountainside died on Sunday, March 26, 2000 at the Brighton Gardens in Mountainside.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Belleville for 62 years and in Newton for 10 years before moving to Mountainside four years ago.
Mrs. Johnson had been employed by the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company of Newark for 25 years until retiring as a supervisor in 1985.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Order of the Eastern Star in Belleville.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Christine Kline and Mrs. Laura Price; a son, Craig Johnson, and two grandchildren.
Services were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 29, in the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Marie A. Hirsch, 66
Marie A. Hari Hirsch, 66, of Garwood died on Friday, March 24, 2000 at her home.
Born in Montreal, Canada, she came to the United States in 1941 and settled in Newark.
She lived in Garwood for the past 47 years.
Mrs. Hirsch was a member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood and of its Rosary Society.
Surviving are her husband, Frank N. Hirsch; a son, Frank A. Hirsch; a daughter, Susan Sheppard; two sisters, Helen Duffany and Rose Heffernan, and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 27, in St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the Garwood First Aid Squad.

John M. Bailey, 86
Former Principal; Bayonne School Named in His Honor
John M. Bailey, 86, of Westfield, a longtime educator for whom a school was named in Bayonne, died on Friday, March 24, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Scotch Plains for 22 years before moving recently to Westfield.
Mr. Bailey served as Principal of Bayonne School 12 before retiring in 1976 after 39 years with the school district.
The school was named for him a year later.
He joined the district in 1937 as an English and mathematics teacher at the Henry Harris School.
After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he returned to the district and was named Vice Principal at Bayonne School 12 in 1944.
He became Principal in 1950.
Mr. Bailey additionally taught evening graduate classes at Seton Hall University in South Orange from 1958 to 1972 and helped establish the Guidance Department at Bayonne High School.
He was awarded his bachelor’s degree from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City and his master’s degree from Seton Hall University.
He was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, the Holy Name Society of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains and the Star of the Sea Council, Knights of Columbus No. 371 in Bayonne.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Bailey; four daughters, Ellen M. Stagg, Anne McGrew, Kathleen Schoenhaus and Mary B. Morrison; three sisters, Sister Agnes Helene, Helen Miller and Lee MacMurtie, and 10 grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, March 28, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, following the funeral from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
George J. McDermott, 62
Was Veteran; Worked at United Airlines for 42 Years
George Joseph McDermott, 62, of Lakewood died on Friday, March 24, 2000 at home.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Westfield for 23 years before relocating to Lakewood last year.
Mr. McDermott had been employed by United Airlines at Newark Airport for 42 years in various capacities, including ramp supervisor, before retiring in 1998.
He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served from 1957 to 1960.
He was a member of both the Fairways Poker League and the Fairways Softball Team in Lakewood.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Henneberry McDermott; three daughters, Susan McDermott and Amy McDermott, both of Cranford, and Kristi Stinson of Clinton; a brother, Jack McDermott of Sea Girt, and three sisters, Janet Hayes of Staten Island, Betty Ann Cross of Wrentham, Mass. and Eileen Stepnowski of Hazlet.
The funeral was held on Monday, March 27, from the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Terry Kaplow, 52
Business School Alumna Worked as Insurance Claims Coordinator
Terry Kaplow, 52, of Metuchen died on Saturday, March 25, 2000 in the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Hillside and Westfield before moving to Metuchen 10 years ago.
Ms. Kaplow was employed as an insurance claims coordinator for Polar International in New York City.
She attended the Stafford Hall School of Business in Summit.
Surviving are her parents, Doris and Jerome Kaplow of Westfield, and two brothers, Richard Kaplow of Westfield and Robert Kaplow of Metuchen.
Graveside services were conducted on Monday, March 27, at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Richard Smith, 78
Richard Smith, 78, of North Catasauqua, Pa. died on Monday, March 27, 2000 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Salisbury Township in Allentown, Pa.
Born on December 2, 1923 in Liverpool, England, he was the son of the late Richard and Sarah A. McDonald Smith.
He came to the United States with his family in 1963.
Mr. Smith had been employed as a plant manager with Foseco Metals in Birmingham, England, for 20 years before retiring in 1977.
He had also worked for various powder metal plants in New Jersey.
He served in Great Britain’s Royal Navy during World War II, from 1941 to 1946.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons of Coplay, Pa.
Surviving are his wife, June Catcheside Smith of Northampton, Pa., whom he married on September 7, 1946; two daughters, Anne Kaslusky of Westfield and Kathryn M. Pradel of Slatington, Pa.; a son, Michael R. Smith of State College, Pa.; a brother, Robert Smith-Copper of Toms River, and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, March 30, at 4 p.m. at the Schisler Funeral Home, Inc. of Northampton, Pa.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
