Elizabeth Naulty, 73
Dean of Admissions At Chatham College in Pennsylvania
Elizabeth Ann Naulty, 73, of Mountainside died on Thursday, June 24, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, she had lived in Westfield for 30 years before moving to Mountainside 14 years ago.
Mrs. Naulty was the Dean of Admissions at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for several years before retiring.
She was a member of the College Women’s Club of Westfield, the Auxiliary of the Children’s Specialized Hospital and the Foothills Club, both of Mountainside.
She had graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
She had earned a master’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
Surviving are her husband, Leslie Naulty; a daughter, Sharon Naulty of Manhattan; two sons, Sherb Naulty of Gillette and Robert Naulty of North Plainfield and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 28, in the First Congregational Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.

John LiVecchi, 79
John LiVecchi, 79, of Westfield died on Sunday, June 27, 1999 at home.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Carteret before moving to Westfield four years ago.
Mr. LiVecchi was a truck driver for Strickland Motors in Kearny for 20 years before retiring 17 years ago.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and had received two Purple Hearts.
Surviving are a daughter, Theresa Juliano of Westfield; a sister, Mary Verdi of Edison; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, July 1, at 10 a.m. in St. John The Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Clark, following the funeral from the Krowicki-Gorny Memorial Home in Clark.

Christopher J. O’Neil, 40
Was Officer With Scotch Plains Police Department
Christopher J. O’Neil, 40, an officer with the Scotch Plains Police Department, died on Monday, June 28, 1999 at his township residence.
Born in Plainfield, Officer O’Neil had lived in Fanwood and in Scotland before settling in Scotch Plains in 1965.
Officer O’Neil was a member of the Scotch Plains police force since 1996.
He had previously worked for the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
He was a 1981 graduate of Kean College in Union, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, and a 1995 graduate of the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Scotch Plains.
He was an Eagle Scout Leader with Troop No. 271 of Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his wife, Carole Flinn O’Neil; two sons, Connor J. O’Neil and Cooper J. O’Neil; his parents, Jeremiah and Vivian O’Neil; three brothers, Patrick O’Neil, Joseph O’Neil and Timothy O’Neil, and a sister, Kathleen Rankin.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 2, at 9 a.m. from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
A Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Visitation will take place today, Thursday, July 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Christopher O’Neil Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Catherine M. Crowley
Taught Elementary School in Two Districts
Catherine M. Crowley of Spring Lake died on Sunday, September 5, 1999 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Spring Lake in 1966.
Mrs. Crowley had been an elementary teacher for the New Milford and Union City school districts.
She had also been a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance School in San Francisco during World War II.
She graduated from Jersey City State Teachers College in 1941.
Mrs. Crowley was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and the Spring Lake Library Board.
She was also an organizer of the Covenant House Golf Tournament in Spring Lake.
Surviving are a son, Thomas A. Crowley, Jr.; a daughter, Kim Crowley; a brother, James Reynolds, Jr.; three sisters, Margaret White, Eileen Scatourchio and Jeannie Bott, and three grandchildren.
A Mass will be offered today, Thursday, September 9, at noon in St. Catherine’s Church in Spring Lake, following the funeral from the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall.

Mildred Amoroso, 79
Was Owner Of Mayfair Exxon in Kenilworth
Mildred Amoroso, 79, of Westfield died on Monday, September 6, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Westfield, she had lived in Garwood and in Kenilworth before returning to Westfield 43 years ago.
Mrs. Amoroso had been the owner of the Mayfair Exxon in Kenilworth for many years, retiring 10 years ago.
She was a member of the Mountainside Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Salvatore Amoroso; four daughters, Dolores DiFonzo, Shirley Amoroso, Mildred Marris and Ruth Venturella; a brother, Carl DelConte; three sisters, Mary Barbarise, Jean Reiman and Lena Lanza; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be offered today, Thursday, September 9, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, following the funeral from the Mastapeter Suburban in Roselle Park.

Mary Delli Santi, 84
Mary Delli Santi, 84, of Mountainside died on Monday, September 6, 1999 at her summer home in Lavallette.
Born in New York City, she had lived in Hillside before moving to Mountainside 45 years ago.
Mrs. Delli Santi had been a nurses’ aide at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth before retiring in 1945.
She was a member of the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.
Surviving are her husband, Frank T. Delli Santi; two daughters, Francine M. Tucker and Georgine R. Delli Santi; a son, Gregory F. Delli Santi; two sisters, Rose Dynegay and Angie Buckowski, and two grandchildren.
A Mass will be offered today, Thursday, September 9, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church following the funeral from the Growney Funeral Home in Hillside.

Michael A. Vella, 72
Army Veteran; Was Truck Driver for Mercury Motors
Michael A. Vella, 72, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at home.
Born in New Brunswick, he had lived in Menlo Park Terrace before moving to Scotch Plains 20 years ago.
Mr. Vella had been a truck driver with Mercury Motors in Edison prior to retiring in 1974.
He was employed part time for the past year with Middlesex Armature Services in Colonia.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Vella was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 701 in South Brunswick and of the Central New Jersey Teamsters Retirees Club.
He was a former communicant of St. Cecelia Roman Catholic Church in Iselin.
Surviving are three sons, Dominic M. Vella of Brick, Michael S. Vella of Balch Springs, Tex. and Richard C. Vella of Menlo Park Terrace; two daughters, Barbara Hoptay of Edison and Rosemarie Forgione of Balch Springs, Tex.; a brother, Nicholas Vella of Long Island; a sister, Theresa Noll of Varnville, S. C.; a stepson, Anthony L. Padovano, Jr. of Warren, and a stepdaughter, Lisa P. D’Alessandro of Stewartsville.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, September 4, at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Fords, following services at the Flynn & Son Funeral Home in Fords.
Burial took place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Brunswick.

William R. Hoffman, 87
William R. Hoffman, 87, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, September 6, 1999 at home.
Born in Newark, he lived in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains area since 1947.
Mr. Hoffman had been an administrator with Celanese Coatings Corporation in Newark prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Old Guard of Westfield and the Westfield Stamp Club and was a lifelong member of the Precancel Stamp Society.
He was predeceased by his wife, Althea D. Hoffman, in 1990.
Surviving are his daughter, Jann A. Hoffman of Cold Spring.
Private arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 325, Scotch Plains, 07076.
