DOROTHY M. MELVIN WALSH, 78, of Middletown died Jan. 7 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in New York prior to moving to Middletown 15 years ago. She was a retired bank teller for National Bank of North America, Port Washington, N.Y. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Her activities include playing bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Walsh in 1991. She is survived by four sons, Robert S. Walsh Jr. of Wales, Mass., Stephen C. Walsh of Long Branch, Joseph M. Walsh of Bradley Beach, and Daniel M. Walsh of Northport, N.Y.; her daughter, Barbara J. Blauvelt of Middletown; two sisters, Grace Ann Guarnera of Sacramento, Calif., and Jeannie Tonjes of Espanola, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Jason Dreams, 20 Monmouth St. Red Bank 07701.
IONA E. GRENGER, 93, of Eatontown died Jan. 11 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Matawan, she lived in Union Beach prior to moving Eatontown 20 years ago. She was a teacher with Marlboro Board of Education for 40 years, retiring in 1968. She taught Sunday school at Community Church, Leonardo section of Middletown; and was a member and corresponding secretary for Meadowbrook senior citizens association. She was predeceased by her husband, William Grenger in 1972; and her daughter, Susan J. States, also in 1972. She is survived by two sons, William J. Grenger of Union Beach, and Robert B. Grenger of Atlantic Highlands; her daughter, Judith A. Poulos of Weatherford, Texas; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery, Matawan.
FREDERICK D. "TORCH" STATEN JR., 56, of Long Branch died Jan. 13 at Monmouth Care Center, Long Branch. He was born in Long Branch and was a lifelong resident. He served as a Lance Corporal with the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick D. and Queenie E. Wright Staten Sr. He is survived by his son, Cory; three daughters, Bethany, Kihalea and Crystal; five brothers, Benjamin, Solomon, Chauncey, Samuel and Donald; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
LEE LAURINO, 82, of Long Branch died Jan. 7 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, she lived in Oceanport prior to moving to Long Branch in 1975. She was the owner and operator of Lorraine Sanitation, Oceanport. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husbands, Anthony Laurino and Joseph Tardiolo; her sons, Anthony J. Laurino and James Tardiolo; and her sister, Frances Titi. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Govoni of Long Branch; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
JOHN MONTEFINESE, 78, of Long Branch died Jan. 9 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in New York City prior to moving to Long Branch 40 years ago. He was a locksmith at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, for 37 years, retiring four years ago. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Bastita in 1948. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Tosto Montefinese of Long Branch; his son, Nicholas Montefinese of Eatontown; his daughter, Lisa Boggs of Asbury Park; two brothers, Joseph Montefinese of Bloomingberg, N.Y., and Mario Montefinese of Providence, R.I.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
MARIE DALTON VINCELLI, 91, of West Long Branch died Jan. 11 at Monmouth Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Philadelphia, she lived in Long Branch and Florida prior to moving to West Long Branch 18 years ago. She was a clothing trimmer for Podell Manufacturing Company, Long Branch, retiring in 1970. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union (ILGWU). She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent "Jim" Vincelli in 1982; a daughter, Rose Grandinetti in 1992; an adopted son, James in 1997; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters and three sons-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Goettle of Spokane, Wash., Joan and Robert Day of West Long Branch, and Phil Grandinetti of Neptune; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Ollie Parris of Jackson; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
