DARLENE V. CROSBIE, 40, of Lakehurst died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Long Branch, she lived in Middletown, Keansburg, and Hazlet prior to moving to Lakehurst 12 years ago. She was a school crossing guard and secretary for the Lakehurst Police Department the past 10 years. She was predeceased by her sister, Toni Ann O’Donnell, in 1970. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Wayne Crosbie of Lakehurst; her daughter, Mandy Crosbie of Lakehurst; two brothers, Michael O’Donnell of Richmond, Va.; and John O’Donnell of Little Egg Harbor; her parents, John and Nancy O’Donnell Sr. of Whiting; and several nieces and nephews. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
ROBERT W. FEENEY, 41, of Long Branch died Jan. 16 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. He was supervisor of grounds for graduate house at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Prior to that, he was a groundskeeper at Monmouth University, West Long Branch. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. He came from a family of dedicated firefighters and was 1st lieutenant and a 25-year member of the Phil Daly Hose Company of the Long Branch Fire Department. Named Fireman of the Year, he received a Ready Commendation ribbon from the department. He also served as captain for three terms, was a head driver and adviser for the Explorer Program. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter, Jayne Van Doren Feeney; and Anthony, Michael, James and Meghan Feeney, all at home; his parents, Henry and Julia Dennison Feeney of Long Branch; five sisters, Lynn Weiland of Rockville, Md.; Ann Feeney of Denver, Colo.; Karen Feeney of Eatontown; Diane Carter of Malibu, Calif.; and Janet Feeney of Secaucus; and his father-in-law, Judson Van Doren of South Bound Brook. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Bound Brook Cemetery. LUCY ROSE GUICE, 69, of Long Branch died Jan. 19 at Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Christ Church, Shrewsbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin E. Guice in 1992. She is survived by her son, Patrick Guice of Toms River; her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Herman Brabham of Long Branch; her sister, Alice Petrico of Wanamassa; and a grandson. Interment was at White Ridge Cemetery, Eatontown.
CLAIRE SIPLER TAYLOR, 81, of Eatontown died Jan. 19 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Smithville, N.Y., she lived in Long Branch prior to moving to Eatontown 25 years ago. She was a parishioner of The Lutheran Church of Reformation, West Long Branch. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Gerwer in 1960. She is survived by two sons, George E. Wolff of Long Branch, and William J. Gerwer of Ocean; her daughter, Joanie Broddack of Piscataway; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
CHARLES "TODD" BALL JR., 74, of Hood River, Ore. died Jan. 23. Born in East Orange, he was raised and educated in Long Branch. He was a chemist and plating manager for Luhr Jensen & Sons, Hood River, retiring in 1992. He served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. His affiliations included the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a life member and Worship Master, a member and ex-commander of American Legion Post No. 22, and the Hood River Elks Club, all Hood River. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley Chapter, Detroit, Mich., and the Al Bedo Shrine Club, Billings, Mont. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Ball of Hood River; his son, David C. Ball of Bozeman, Mont.; his sister, Mary Ann Salsgiver of Mill City, Wash.; three grandchildren; three nieces; four nephews; and several cousins. ROBERT CALABRETTA, 62, of Ridgecrest, Calif., formerly of Long Branch, died Jan. 29 at the VA Medical Center, Los Angeles, Calif. Born and raised in Long Branch, he lived in Hialeah and Port St. Lucia, Fla., prior to settling in Ridgecrest in 1998. He learned carpentry from his father, and owned and operated a cabinetry business in Florida until the late 1980s. He served with the U.S. Navy and was disabled in service. A graduate of Long Branch High School, he attended classes at Monmouth College (now Monmouth University), in West Long Branch. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Vincent Filippone of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two nieces, Michelle Filippone McGeary and Andrea Filippone Hinote; a nephew, Vincent Filippone; two great-nieces; and several friends. A funeral liturgy was offered at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch.
GEORGE R. SCHEPP of Middletown died Jan. 21 at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, New Brunswick. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y. He was an engineering supervisor for Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, for 42 years, retiring in 1993. Prior to that, he worked with Bell Laboratories and at Western Electric, New York City. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II performing submarine service on both the USS Skipjack and USS Plaice. He was past president of the Christian Brothers Academy Fathers Club. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Richard Schepp; his brother, Charles Schepp; and his sister, Elizabeth Schepp. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcella Donnelly Schepp of Middletown; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Robina Schepp of Middletown, George T. Schepp of Monmouth Beach, and Richard P. Schepp of Atlanta; his brother, Francis Schepp of Yonkers, N.Y.; his sister, Helen Plunkett of Bronxville, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. HARRY W. TALLMAN JR., 91, of Asbury Park died Jan. 22 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Eatontown prior to moving to Asbury Park 10 years ago. He was a retired production tester for Bendix Co., Eatontown, for 38 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Strohmenger Tallman. He is survived by two sons, Harry V. Tallman of Landing and Joseph W. Tallman of Oakhurst; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Burial was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
