LOIS CAROLINE MEGILL GORNEE, 88, of Margate, Fla., formerly of Long Branch, died April 27 at her daughter’s home in Fair Haven. Born in Jamesburg, she lived most of her life in the shore area and moved to Florida 31 years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed devoting time to her family and friends. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Deerfield Beach, Fla., and a member of Charity Court No. 38 Order of the Amaranth, Fair Haven. Mrs. Gornee was predeceased by her husband, Allan R. Sr.; and a brother, Otis D. Megill. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Topfer of Fair Haven and Barbara J. Sinclair of Margate, Fla.; her son, Allan R. Gornee Jr. of Brockton, Mass.; her sister, Ruth M. Stout of Oakhurst; her brother, Joseph S. Megill of Oceanport; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. BLANCHE F. WERMANN, 70, of Hazlet died April 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Union City prior to moving to Hazlet 42 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was a member of the Keyport Seniors club. She is survived by her husband, Louis Wermann of Hazlet; her son, Louis Wermann Jr. of Brick; four daughters, Margaretann DiGiambattisti of Union Beach, Karen Pinckney of Keyport, Janine Wermann-Salinas of Hazlet, and Kathleen Walling of Keyport; four sisters, Helen Provitera of Bloomfield, Ida Meyer and Dorothy Englese, both of North Bergen, and Ella Kolodziej of Jackson; her brother, Robert Chinery of Jersey City; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be offered May 1 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery. META SCHMONSEES EICKMEYER, 93, of Middletown died May 2 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, she moved to the United States in 1936 and lived in New York City, prior to moving to Middletown in 1984. She was the retired owner and operator of Otto’s Deli, New York and also worked at Hempstead High School, Long Island, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband, Otto Eickmeyer in 1947. She is survived by her son, Otto Eickmeyer of Ocean Township; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Waite of Middletown; and seven grandchildren. Burial was at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Long Island, N.Y.
ALLAN "RAY" RAYMOND, 77, of Long Branch died May 7 at the Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Allenwood. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he relocated to Long Branch in 1940. He was employed by the U.S. Government at Fort Monmouth until retiring in the mid 1980s. He served with the U.S. Navy during the D-Day Invasion and was among the troops who landed on Normandy. He was a graduate of Long Branch High School and Monmouth College. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly, who died in December. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Margie Raymond of Long Branch; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Bill James of Long Branch; and grandchildren Patricia Dalton, and Sam and Jesse Raymond, all of Long Branch. A funeral service was held at St. James Episcopal Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown. THOMAS J. ORLANDO JR., 74, of Freehold Township died May 5 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Maywood before moving to Freehold Township 32 years ago. He was the owner of Woodbridge Power Sports, Woodbridge, for 15 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Marie; a son, Thomas III of Red Bank; a brother, Frank of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and a granddaughter. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
PANAGIOTA P. "PAULINE" GIVAS, 87, of Long Branch died May 5 at home. Born in Magnesi, Greece, she moved to the United States in 1952 and resided in Newark prior to moving to Long Branch. She was a retired sewing machine operator for the I.L.G.W.U. She was predeceased by her husband, Efthimious "Thomas" D. Givas in 1976; and her brother, Thrasievolos Panagioutopoulos. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Judy Givas of Warwick, N.Y.; her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Wallace Neuner of Long Branch; her sister, Angeliki Krissilas of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada; her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Paul Kyllonen of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
EDITH BURKE DEMUTH, 62, of Howell died May 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she moved to New Jersey in 1968 and lived in Manalapan for more than 20 years before moving to Howell three years ago. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart on 91st Street in Manhattan, then she worked as an assistant buyer with B. Altman & Co. In 1980, she became a sales representative for Verizon until she retired last year. She was a former president of the Monmouth Heights Swim Club Board of Trustees. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew. Surviving are four sons and a daughter-in-law, Andrew of Freehold, Joseph and Christopher, both of Howell, and William and Tracie of Farmingdale; a daughter, Adrianne of Long Branch; two brothers, Adrian and Frank Burke; and an aunt and uncle, Mimi and Francis Martin. A Mass was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, Marlboro. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
HELEN V. BILLINGS LUKER, 88, of Middletown died May 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Shrewsbury, she lived in Red Bank and Shrewsbury prior to moving to Middletown 13 years ago. She was an assembly worker for Red Bank Clothing for 22 years, retiring in 1976. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Luker in January. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
