JOSEPH S. BRZOZOWSKI, 76, of East Brunswick, died April 25 at home. He was born in Sayreville and moved to East Brunswick two years ago. His wife, Viola Zalewski, died in 1996. Surviving are four sons, Frank of Old Bridge, Chester of South River, Edward of East Brunswick and Stanley of Howell; five sisters, Rose Wolski and Eleanor Zalewski of Sayreville, Pearl Markowski, Joan Olszewski and Mary Wolynec of South River; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville, followed by a Mass at St. Stanislaus Church, also Sayreville. Interment
was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
KATHRYN KINSEY, 93, formerly of New Brunswick, died July 22 in Kensington Manor Care Center, Toms River. Born in Bayonne, she resided in Highland Park, New Brunswick, Marlboro and Chadwick Beach before moving to Toms River in 1992. She was employed for many years as a psychiatric aide by the state of New Jersey working in several halfway houses in Elizabeth and Red Bank. In the 1960s and 1970s she managed the former River House, a psychiatric rehabilitation center on Bridge Avenue. She retired in 1977. She loved to garden. She was a communicant of Queen of Peace R.C. Church, Normandy Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward L., former fire chief for the Marlboro Psychiatric Center, in 1963; and two sons, John Harrison Kinsey Sr., Eatontown, and Tom Kinsey of West Point, Va. Surviving are her son, Francis of Hull Cove, Maine; a brother, John Bradshaw of Cape Gerardo, Mo.; a sister, Helen Doerr of Milltown; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Milltown, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick. Crabiel Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.
DOROTHEA E. THOMAS, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 20 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Hightstown, where she resided until moving to Freehold Township five years ago. Miss Thomas was a Realtor for Rossmoor Sales, Monroe Township, for 20 years, retiring 10 years ago. She was a former secretary to the president of Princeton University, and a former employee of Opinion Research, both of Princeton. Miss Thomas was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Trenton, and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Hightstown. She was a member of the October Club, East Windsor. Surviving are two nephews, Dr. John McNamara of Norwalk, Conn., and Dennis McNamara of Brick Township; and a niece, Diane Fields of the Dayton section of South Brunswick. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Allentown. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
HENRY BUSCH, 89, of the Rossmoor adult community, Monroe, died July 2 at home. He was an attorney in New Brunswick for 54 years and in North Brunswick for 11 years. He practiced law with his late brother, Lewis D. Busch, founder of Busch and Busch, North Brunswick, and with his two sons, Mark and Leonard Busch, and his three nephews, Malcolm, Ronald and Bertram Busch. His wife, Kathleen Miller Busch, died in 1979. His companion, Lillian Neuman Berman, died in June. Surviving are two sons, Mark of North Brunswick and Leonard of South Brunswick; a sister, Sarah Busch Topkins of Waltham, Mass.; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Arrangements were under the direction of Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick, with services at Congregation Ahavas Achim, Highland Park. Interment
was in Shalom Cemetery, New Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Ahavas Achim, 216 S. First Ave., Highland Park.
ROSE M. McDERMOTT CONROY, 79, of Spotswood died July 5 in the Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Her husband, James, died in 1975. Surviving are two daughters, Rose Conrad of North Brunswick and Nancy Beach of Spotswood; a son, James Conroy of Gilmer, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services were arranged by Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, with a Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment
was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Memorial contributions may be made to the Reformed Church Home, 1990 Route 18 north, Old Bridge 08857, or to Veterans of Foreign Wars, 33 Daniel Road, Spotswood 08884.
MARVIN C. CONOVER, 83, of Hazlet, died Aug. 8 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Irvington, he lived in the Morgan section of Sayreville prior to moving to Hazlet 5 years ago. He was an instrument mechanic for DuPont, the Parlin section of Sayreville, for 42 years upon retirement in 1979. He is survived by his wife, Margie Thompson Conover; three daughters, Linda Vona of Sayreville, Suzanne Selover of Morgan and Christine Young of Nicholson, Pa.; three stepdaughters, RaeLien Jones of Alabama., Jill Kurtz of North Carolina, and Cindy DeVincent of Wantage; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were arranged by Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with burial at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
DEREK W. JONES, 65, of Howell, died July 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Dagenham, Essex, England, Mr. Jones had been a resident of Howell for the past 30 years. He was the owner of several Arthur Murray Dance Studios on the East Coast. He and his wife, Nola, were dance champions in England before coming to the United States. Mr. Jones was a warrant officer in the Royal Air Force in England, serving during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce, both of Chatham. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Nola; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lindsay Ann Don of Toms River, and Heidi Lee and Paul Bennett of Freehold; and four grandchildren. The C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements.
MAY K. LAIRD, 90, of Freehold Township, died July 31 at John L. Montgomery Division, Monmouth County Care Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Birmingham, England, and had resided in the Freehold area for the past 81 years. Mrs. Laird was co-owner and then proprietor of White & Snyder Coal Yard, Freehold, which became Duckett & Laird in 1964. She retired in 1975. Mrs. Laird was predeceased by her husband, J. Carlton Laird, who died in 1958. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Cynthia Laird of Yardley, Pa., and Vernon R. and Sandra Laird of Ocean City; a sister, Winifred Burlew of Howell; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.
