MALACIAH K. LOCKLEAR, 32, of Jackson, died July 31 at University Hospital, Newark. Born in Jersey City, he had resided in Freehold before moving to Jackson six years ago. Mr. Locklear was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics. He was the owner and operator of his own trucking company, C.J. Malamar Corp., Jackson. Mr. Locklear was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was predeceased by his father, John, who died in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Marquesa Jackson Locklear; two sons, Malaciah Jr. and Malcolm, and a daughter, Cherelle, all at home; his mother, Martha Gadsden Locklear of Freehold; a brother, John of Boston, Mass.; and two sisters, Charliemae Bryant of Lakeland, Ga., and Herbertina McKeever of Neptune. Funeral services were held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
THERESE MITSCHELE, 94, of Howell, died Aug. 3 at home. Born in Tiefenbach, Germany, she had resided in Colts Neck before moving to Howell 35 years ago. Mrs. Mitschele was a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Colts Neck. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, who died in 1999. Surviving are a son, George K. of Howell; a brother, Albert Heitlinger, and a sister, Maria Schel, both of Tiefenbach, Germany; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by the funeral liturgy at St. Mary’s Church. Interment
was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
FRANK J. MURPHY, 84, of Freehold Township, died Aug. 2 at home. Born in Ederney, Northern Ireland, he had resided in Toms River for 23 years before moving to Freehold Township three years ago. Mr. Murphy was a manager for the Pennsylvania Railroad, New York City, for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society of St. Aedan’s R.C. Church, Jersey City. He was a graduate of Salesian College, London, England. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his wife, Alice Maguire Murphy, who died in 1982. Surviving are four sons, Frank J. Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., James of Freehold, Thomas of Ocean Grove, and Brian of Belmar; a daughter, Elizabeth Verdoni of Washington Township; two brothers, Gerald of Margate, Fla., and James of Woodlawn, the Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Eileen Ingram of Stuart, Fla.; and six grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
BEATRIX P. "TRIXIE" NEAREY nee KILCOMINS, 85, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died July 28 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Morganville and was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. Mrs. Nearey was a registered nurse and worked at various area hospitals, including Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, which later became Jersey Shore Medical Center; and Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Marlboro. She also worked at the Methodist Nursing Home, Ocean Grove; and for Dr. S.S. Ellenson, Asbury Park, for many years. She was a communicant of St. Clement’s R.C. Church, Matawan; and a member of the Morganville Social Club. Mrs. Nearey was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, who died in 1967; a son, Kenneth, in 1977; a daughter, Judy, in 1941; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Nearey, in 1984; a brother, Wilmer "Skip" Kilcomins, in 1972; and a sister, Delores Becker, in 1997. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Beatrice Nearey of Alberta, Canada; a brother, Charles T. Kilcomins of Middletown; three grandchildren; two nephews; and two nieces. Memorial services were held at St. Clement’s Church, under the direction of the Waitt Funeral Home, Morganville.
DANIEL SCHEFFLER, 89, of Old Bridge, died July 18 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. His wife, Estelle Torbyn Scheffler, died in 1993. Surviving are two sons, Carl of the Morganville section of Marlboro and Daniel of Alderwood Manor, Wash.; and three grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment
was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
MAXINE MILLER SELZER, 61, of Freehold Township, died Aug. 2 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Hunterdon County, she had resided in Englishtown before moving to Freehold Township in 1993. Mrs. Selzer was a member of the Manalapan-Englishtown Chapter of Hadassah. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph S., who died in 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon L. Botschagow, at home, and Lynne M. Selzer of Englishtown; a brother, Sidney Miller of Newbury Park, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at the Perrineville Jewish Cemetery, Perrineville section of Millstone.
FANNIE SUMMERBELL, 91, of Lakehurst, died July 29 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She was born in Manalapan and had resided in Freehold Township before moving to Lakehurst four years ago. Mrs. Summerbell was predeceased by her husband, Carl G., who died in 1984; and two sons, Carl Jr. and Kenneth. Surviving are a son, Victor H. of Lakehurst; a sister, Doris Wagner of Vineland; four grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
DOROTHEA E. THOMAS, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 20 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Hightstown, where she resided until moving to Freehold Township five years ago. Miss Thomas was a Realtor for Rossmoor Sales, Monroe Township, for 20 years, retiring 10 years ago. She was a former secretary to the president of Princeton University, and a former employee of Opinion Research, both of Princeton. Miss Thomas was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Trenton, and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Hightstown. She was a member of the October Club, East Windsor. Surviving are two nephews, Dr. John McNamara of Norwalk, Conn., and Dennis McNamara of Brick Township; and a niece, Diane Fields of the Dayton section of South Brunswick. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Allentown. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
THOMAS R. WAGNER SR., 43, of Browns Mills, Pemberton, formerly of Freehold, died July 16 at home. Born in Neptune, he had resided in Freehold before moving to Browns Mills in 1988. Mr. Wagner was a mechanic for Barg’s Lawn and Garden, Freehold, for eight years, until he became disabled in January. He was predeceased by his father, James. W. Sr., who died in 1998; and a brother, Robert D. Sr., who died in February. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn; a son, Thomas R. Jr.; and a daughter, Katie Wagner, both at home; his mother, Charlotte Wagner of Howell; two brothers, James A. Jr. of Manchester and David W. of Farmingdale; a sister, Susan L. Wagner of Howell; and his mother-in-law, Diane King, and father-in-law, Peter Globis, both of Freehold Township. Funeral services were held at the C.H.T.
