PAUL J. BRITANAK, 87, of Keansburg, died Aug. 14 at his son’s home in Seaside Park. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Keyport before moving to Keansburg 58 years ago. He was an iron worker for McAllister Tug and Barge, Jersey City, for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. He was a member of Local No. 333 United Marine Division, and a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances, in 1991; and two brothers, George Britanak, and John Britanak. He is survived by two sons, David Britanak of Seaside Park, and Paul Britanak of Conroe, Texas; five sisters, Mary Britanak, Ann Britanak and Rose Britanak, all of Sarasota, Fla., Helen Filardo of Hazlet, and Betty Berth of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; a brother, Joseph Britanak of Laurence Harbor; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Services were arranged by Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with a Mass at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. WILLIAM K. CRAWFORD, 63, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Aug. 15 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hoboken, he was a lifelong Cliffwood Beach resident. He was a railroad car inspector for the Port Authority, Newark, for 35 years, before retiring in 1999. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Schumann of Randolph; three sons, Michael Crawford of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, Mark Crawford of Matawan, and Glenn Crawford of Cliffwood Beach; his companion, Marilyn Thompson of Cliffwood Beach; and two grandchildren. Services were arranged by Day Funeral Home, Hazlet, with burial at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.
JOHN H. CITROLO, 83, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Aug. 15 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, he previously lived in Brooklyn and Pompano Beach, Fla., before moving to Belford nine months ago. He was a self-employed butcher in Bensonhurst, N.Y., for 41 years, before retiring 26 years ago. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Viola Inzinna Citrolo of Belford; two daughters, Kathleen Gwinette of Burlington, N.C., and Marie Nash of Middletown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. MADELYN E. KELLY EDWARDS, 91, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Aug. 18 in Virginia Beach. She was born in the East Keansburg section of Middletown and lived in the Belford section of Middletown for 41 years before relocating to Virginia Beach in 1997. A homemaker, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, and a member of the first graduating class of Red Bank Catholic High School in 1926. She was predeceased by her husband, Chris Edwards, in 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Donna McAloose of Virginia Beach. Services were arranged by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Interment
was a Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
WAYNE A. FRALEY, 48, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Aug. 21 in Cape Coral. He lived in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown his entire life, prior to moving to Florida three years ago. He was a cook for the Boy Scouts of America, Forestburg, N.Y., until 1998. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1971-1972. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and a Life Scout with Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his parents, Katherin Joan Hall and Thomas R. Fraley of Cape Coral; a sister, Karen Ertel of Danielson, Conn.; and five brothers, Thomas and George Fraley, both of New Jersey, and Guy D., Alfred, and Scott Fraley. Burial will be Aug. 30 at Gen.l Doyle State Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, with a service at 1 p.m. in the cemetery

JOHN J. VAIL JR., 36, of Freehold, died Aug. 8 in Burlington Township. He was born in South Amboy and resided there until moving to Freehold nine years ago. Mr. Vail was a program manager with a GS 14 rating at Naval Air Warfare Center, Lakehurst, where he had been employed for the past 13 years. He attended Rutgers University and was a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Maryland. Mr. Vail was a member of the NJIT Chapter of Tau Beta Pi; a member of International Electrical and Electronics Engineers; and a member of the Friends of Navy Lakehurst. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church, Howell. Mr. Vail was predeceased by his father, John "Jack" Vail, who died in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Michele White Vail; his mother, Louise Angelacci Vail of Old Bridge; a brother, Michael of Aberdeen; a sister, Andrea Sellari of Manalapan; and two nephews. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, followed by entombment at St. Mary’s Mausoleum, South Amboy. The Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, the Parlin section of Sayreville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Navy Lakehurst, 1451 Route 37, Toms River 08755; or to the local chapter of the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
GEORGE VAN LIEW, 69, of Seaside Park died Aug. 14 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was formerly of Sayreville. He was predeceased by his wife, Laverne Schwarzenberg, in 1988 and three sisters, Ruth Albert, Myra Wnorowski and Agnes Czarnecki. Surviving are two sons, George Van Liew of Matawan and Greg Van Liew of Sayreville; two daughters, Donna Fanelli and Diane Karmel, both of Old Bridge; a brother, John Van Liew of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; two sisters, Madaline Vas and Johanna Smith, both of East Brunswick; and four grandchildren. Services were held at the Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment
was in the New Calvary Cemetery, Sayreville.
ANNA ROSE McGIRR, 74, of North Middletown, died Aug. 19 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. Born in Bayonne, she lived most of her life in North Middletown. She is survived by two sisters, Marion Cruse, and Florence Andruskiewcz, both of North Middletown; two nieces, Teresa and husband Danny Evernham of North Middletown and, Donna and husband Joseph Tetra of Hazlet; a nephew, Gary and wife Anna Cruse of North Middletown; four great-nephews; and one great-niece. Services were arranged by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a Mass at St. Catherine’s Roamn Catholic Church, North Middletown. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
MARIE ELIZABETH HALL KONRAD, 59, of the Leonardo section of Middletown died July 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, she previously lived in Carteret before relocating to Leonardo 30 years ago. She was a nurses aide for the Middletown Township Board of Education at Leonardo Elementary School for nine years before retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands, and a member of American Legion Post 338 Ladies Auxiliary of Leonardo. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Stephen Konrad of Leonardo; her mother, Elizabeth Hall of Petersburg; two daughters, Andrea Landry of Pomona, and Donna Stewart of Hazlet; a brother, Tom Hall of Manhattan; a sister, Leisa Chester of Petersburg; and five grandchildren. Services were arranged by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a Mass at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Entombment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
