GUSTAV ERICKSON, 96, of Middletown died March 26 in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Sweden, he moved to the United States in 1926. He worked in the Winding and Balancing Department for Continental Electric Co., Newark, until 1953, and then Bendix Corp., Eatontown, retiring in 1970. As a young man, he was a member of the first organized gymnastics team to tour Sweden. He enjoyed skiing until his early 90s. He was an avid walker and liked to fish. Mr. Erickson published several articles, including his memoirs, in Sweden as well as in the United States. He was a member of the Vasa Order of America, a Swedish-American fraternal organization. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Weaver Erickson; and a granddaughter, Wendy Erickson McKenna. Surviving are his wife, Constance Leo Erickson; a son, Gustav Erickson of New Tripoli, Pa.; a daughter, Dorothy Turner of Middletown; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.

JAMES K. MINER, 64, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died March 26 in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Germany, Japan, Louisiana and Bricktown, moving to Lincroft one year ago. He worked in the distribution center for the United States Postal Service, Eatontown, for 13 years, retiring in 1998. He attained the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army during his 22-year career. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was predeceased by his brother, August Miner. Surviving are one son, Daron Miner; two daughters, Patricia Price and Sharon Dewitt; one brother, Leonard Miner of Lincroft; three sisters, Eleanor Schultz and Louise Miner, both of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and Grace Gallagher of Highlands; his friend, Christina Ercolano of Lincroft; and many nieces and nephews. Services were under the direction of Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.

ANNA G. EUSTACE, 89, of Holmdel died March 19 in Holmdel Health Care Center. Born in South Amboy, she lived most of her life in Oceanport, living in Long Branch and Colorado before moving to Holmdel five years ago. She was a former communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert N. Eustace, in 1961 and her grandson, Robert N. Eustace Labbe, in 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Medor of Aurora, Colo., and Roberta Ann Labbe of Holmdel; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, with a Mass at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.

ANDREW M. STONE, 87, of Keyport died March 20 in Regency Park Nursing Center, Hazlet. Born in New York City, he moved to Keyport 24 years ago. He was employed as a courier for Salomon Smith Barney, New York City, for five years, retiring 20 years ago. Prior to that he was a truck driver for Senspere Trucking, New York City. Mr. Stone was a member of Knights of Columbus Hudson Council, New York City. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Margaret Stone; two sons, Harold Stone of the Belford section of Middletown, and Andrew P. Stone of El Cajon, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara Pytel of Hendersonville, N.C.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Cremation was at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

JEANE ELLEN LEONARD, 45, of Belmar died March 21 at home. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Middletown, moving to Belmar three months ago. She was employed as a technical associate for IBM, Middletown, for one year, and previously for AT&T where she worked for 17 years. She was a member of the Old First Church, Middletown, where she served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher and deacon. She was a volunteer with the Child Placement Review Board of Monmouth County. She was predeceased by her mother, Ursula Neveille Leonard, in 1992. Surviving are her father, Robert J. Leonard, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown; two sisters, Arielle Bourgart of San Francisco and Connie Gullman of Tucson, Ariz.; and two nephews, David and Jacob Gullman of Tucson. Services were under the direction of Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

CHARLES EMANUELE, 67, of Hazlet died March 25 in New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. Mr. Emanuele was the chief clerk at Brooklyn, N.Y., Family Court for 38 years, retiring in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, and served in the U.S. Army. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Hazlet for 34 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Carmela. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; a son, Joseph of Freehold; two daughters, Christina Murphy of Hazlet and Patricia Inglese of the Flanders section of Mount Olive; his father, Joseph of Brooklyn; a brother, Santo of Staten Island, N.Y; and eight grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel, with a Mass at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church.

TERESA I. FORCE, 71, of Aberdeen died March 26 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she moved to Aberdeen 34 years ago. She worked for 20 years for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Newark, retiring in 1969. She was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Surviving are her husband, Adam; two daughters, Teresa Force of Matawan, and Evelyn Wisniewski of the Parlin; two sons, Leonard Force of Readington and Lawrence Force of Matawan; one brother, James Reilly of Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth Reilly of East Hanover, and Sister Mary Trinity of Paterson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass was celebrated at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at Marlboro Cemetery.

GERALDINE "GERRY" Van Steenburg Van Wagenen, 82, of Snowflake, Ariz., died March 30 at home. Born in Kingston, N.Y., she lived in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, Union Beach and Keyport before moving to Snowflake 25 years ago. She worked as a tile shader for 15 years at Atco Tile in Keyport, and at Perth Amboy General Hospital in housekeeping for 10 years. Mrs. Van Wagenen was a former member and former home league secretary of the Perth Amboy Salvation Army Corps and a member of First Baptist Church, Snowflake. She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard, in 1965, and her son, John Van Wagenen in 1983. Surviving are her sons LeGrande "Van" of Parlin, Leonard and Gerald, both of Phoenix; two daughters, Lenore Weber Case and Allian Behr, both of Snowflake; two sisters, Margaret Stewart and Mildred Donovan, both of New York state; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.

THOMAS J. BIENDENKAPP, 53, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, died April 3 in Deborah Hospital, Browns Mills section of Pemberton. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Union Beach, until moving to West Keansburg three years ago. He was a bus driver for the past five years for Helfrich Bus Co., West Keansburg. He was a member of the American Legion, Union Beach. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Surviving are his friend, Patricia Burger of Somerset. Services were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment was at N.J. Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
