DOUGLAS W. SIGLER, 88, of Middletown died Nov. 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in New York City before moving to Middletown 30 years ago. He was a motorcycle courier for U.P.I., New York City, for several years, retiring in 1965. Prior to that, he worked for the Associated Press and for television news, both New York City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia Sigler of Middletown; three sons, Douglas M., Victor J., and Wayne T. Sigler, all of Middletown; and his daughter, Stacy M. Sigler of Middletown. Burial was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
WILLIAM J. SHEEHAN, 69, of Hazlet died Nov. 24 at Beachview Nursing Home, Keansburg. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Dumont prior to moving to Hazlet 41 years ago. He was the owner and operator of A&C Elevator, South Orange, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His activities included serving as a Boy Scout leader in Hazlet, past commissioner and coach of Hazlet Pop Warner, coaching basketball and baseball for the Hazlet Youth Athletic League, the Jersey Coast Flyers Club, and volunteering for F.I.S.H. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Lynch Sheehan of Hazlet; three daughters and one son-in-law, Theresa and Timothy Mullins of Colts Neck, Kathleen Nelsen of Hazlet, and Patricia Sheehan of Red Bank; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William and Patricia Sheehan of Howell, and Robert Sheehan of Ashburne, Va.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lorraine Sullivan, and Mildred and Al McClay, all of Georgia; his mother, Mildred Sheehan of Georgia; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be Nov. 28 and 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A funeral Mass will be offered Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
BETTY ANN WILHALME, 67, of Middletown died Nov. 24 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she lived there before moving to Middletown in 1952. She was a sterilization and supplies person for Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for 17 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Wilhalme Sr., in 1980. She is survived by three sons, Frederick G. Wilhalme of Phoenix, Ariz., William J. Wilhalme of Las Vegas, Nev., and John Wilhalme of Hillsboro; a daughter, Elizabeth Yurkin of Middletown; her brother, John McGrath of Forked River; and nine grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be Nov. 28 at 8:15 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will be offered Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
GERALD P. TOOMEY, 73, of Middletown died Nov. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., he lived there before moving to Middletown in 1964. He was a consultant for Columbia Coastal, Liberty Corner. He was a president for Puerto Rico Marine Management, as well as executive vice president from 1963-73 for Sea Land Service, both Port Elizabeth. While at Sea Land, he was instrumental in starting up the first management training program for minority candidates. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, East Keansburg section of Middletown. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korean War. His volunteer activities included supporting several groups and organizations that aid underprivileged and minority children. He is survived by his wife, Velma L. Vogel Toomey, of Middletown; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael S. and Eileen Toomey of Red Bank; three daughters, Donna M. Toomey of San Francisco, Calif., Laura J. Paden of Middletown, and Nancy E. Toomey of San Francisco; his brother, Bernard Toomey of Los Angeles; two sisters, Claire Heard of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Barbara Toomey of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
AMELIA BEASICH, 88, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Nov. 18 at home. Born in Middletown Township, she was a lifelong resident. She was a seamstress for Eisner’s Men’s Shop, Red Bank, for 50 years, retiring 24 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, John Beasich in 1967, and her son, John L. Beasich in 1988. She is survived by two brothers, Alexander Adeskavitz of Belford, and Stephen Adeskavitz of Middletown; her sister, Marion Grabowski of Belford; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
ELLEN KIESEL, 92, of Red Bank died Nov. 21 at Navesink House, Red Bank. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, she resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., for most of her life prior to moving to Red Bank 4 1/2 years ago. She was the owner and operator of Ernie’s Bar and Grill, Bayridge, Brooklyn, for 35 years, retiring in 1980. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest in 1968. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Ann Kiesel of Middletown; her daughter, Ellen Guarnieri of Toms River; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial was at Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y.
AGNES J. DONEGAN, 85, of Freehold died Nov. 18 at Rahway Geriatric Center, Rahway. Born in Englishtown, she had lived in Jersey City and Manalapan before moving to Freehold three years ago. She was a secretary at St. Paul the Apostle School, Greenville section of Jersey City, and later was a secretary at St. Francis Hospital and Greenville Hospital, both in Jersey City. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, and a member of the church’s Rosary Altar Society. She was a 1934 graduate of Freehold High School. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1957; and a daughter, Agnes, this past January. She is survived by a son, John of Matawan; three daughters, Patricia of Freehold, Elizabeth Maurer of Cranford and Rosemary Pribila of South Windsor, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
JOSEPHINE BAUMANN, 88, of Middletown died Nov. 19 at King James Care Center, Middletown. Born in New York City, she lived in College Point, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown in 1962. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and its Legion of Mary, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Baumann, and her daughter, Joan Baumann. She is survived by two sons, Carl Baumann of Middletown, and Frank Baumann of Voorhees; her daughter, Lois Wanzor of Middletown; two sisters, Eleanore Rehor of Whitestone, N.Y., and Marion Condit of Norwalk, Conn.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. EDWARD W. BOYD, 44, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died Nov. 21 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. He was born in Newark and lived most of his life in Port Monmouth. He was a payroll clerk for Fort Monmouth for 10 years, retiring in 1996. He served with the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a member of the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Boyd in 1984. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Barbara and William August of Middletown; his sister, Sharon Kirwan of the Bayville section of Berkeley; his brother, William Boyd of Brick; his grandmother, Genevieve Young of Port Monmouth; two stepsisters, Kathy Falkenberg of Carteret, and Susan August of Port Monmouth; four stepbrothers, William, Lance and Manuel August, all of Brick, and Matthew August of Port Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
MARGARET T. FRANCIA, 80, of Freehold Township died Nov. 7 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there before moving to Freehold Township three years ago. She worked as a secretary for the Angel Guardian Home, Brooklyn. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. She is survived by her husband, Joseph T.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis J. and Mary Ann of Holmdel; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and John Carusio of Freehold Township; and four grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
