MATTHEW DeFILIPPIS, 68, of the Perrineville section of Millstone, died Oct. 9 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Carteret for 35 years before moving to Perrineville eight years ago. Mr. DeFilippis was employed by Western Electric for 25 years and then by Halls Motor Transit for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary D’Amore DeFilippis; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Meg of Somerset; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Rod Blash of Perrineville; two brothers, James and Anthony of Bayonne; four sisters, Mary Matuck and Millie Colterelli, of Bayonne, Louise O’Gorman of Allenhurst and Theresa Winning of Rahway; and three grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Hightstown, followed by entombment at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.

JOSEPH and STELLA RETTE, of Upper Freehold, died from injuries resulting from an automobile accident. Joseph J. Rette, 82, died Oct. 5 at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, Camden. His wife of 53 years, Stella Rette, 77, died Oct. 6 at Capital Health System at Fuld Hospital, Trenton. Mr. Rette was born in Robbinsville and Mrs. Rette was born in Trenton; they were longtime Upper Freehold residents. Mr. Rette was a retired potato farmer and was the owner of J.R. Nursery in Cream Ridge. He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as an Army medic. Mrs. Rette was a homemaker. They were members of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Allentown. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Jim Waskovich of Allentown, JoAnn and Barry Caparotta of Cream Ridge, and Susan and John Astrab of Princeton; Mr. Rette’s sister, Helen Pocetti of Trenton; Mrs. Rette’s brother and sister, John Wnuk of Ewing and Helen Wnuk of Trenton; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John’s Church, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.

KENNETH MIRAGLIA, 58, of Freehold, died Oct. 2 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Neptune, he had lived in the Atlantic City area before moving to Freehold 10 years ago. Mr. Miraglia was an iron worker and a member of the Atlantic City Iron Workers Union for 30 years before retiring in 1990. He is survived by his mother, Bessie Miraglia of Freehold; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim of Atlantic City; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Larry McCabe of Margate; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerard and Jean of Millstone, and Frederick and Karen of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Carolyn Pinto of Plantation, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Interment was at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

EUGENE E. PELKEY, 60, of Jackson died Aug. 3 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was the owner/operator of Jackson Glass Co., Jackson, for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lakewood Elks Lodge No. 1432, and the American Legion Post No. 166, Lakewood. He was born in Wilmington, N.Y., and lived in Lakewood before moving to Jackson 30 years ago. He was predeceased by a brother, Gary Pelkey and a sister, Lucille Scully. Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Virginia Galvin Pelkey; a son, Mark of Jackson; a daughter, Gena Lonigro of West Long Branch; two stepsons, Robert and Thomas Seery, both of Jackson; five brothers, George Pelkey of Jackson, William Pelkey of Lakewood, Stanley Pelkey of Florida, Edward Pelkey of N.C., and Gregory Pelkey of Tuckerton; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations would be greatly appreciated and may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, New Jersey Region, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015-0820.

CHRISTOPHER MORE DINCUFF, 31, of Jersey City, formerly of South River, died Sept. 11 in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, New York City. He was employed as a commodities trader by Carr Futures, New York City. Surviving are his mother, Joan Dincuff of South River; his father, Frank, and his stepmother, Eileen of Piscataway; two sisters, Beth of North Brunswick and Amy, at home; a brother, Ian of Piscataway; his grandmothers, Helen Rojek and Helen Dincuff, both of South River; his aunts, uncles and cousins; and by his fiancée, Angela Gutermuth, whom he planned to marry in September 2002. A memorial Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. A ceremony of life followed in the church pastoral center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christopher M. Dincuff Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o 36 New St., South River, NJ 08882.

CHARLES G. COSTELLO JR., 46, of Old Bridge died Sept. 11 in the collapse of the World Trade Center, New York City. He was a member of International Union of Elevators Constructors Local No. 1, New York City. Surviving are his wife, Mary Norton Costello; a son, Charles G. Costello III of Old Bridge; three daughters, Amanda, Mary Kate and Theresa, all of Old Bridge; his father, Charles G. Costello Sr. of Old Bridge; a brother, Raymond Costello of Hazlet; two sisters, Kathy Birch of Brick and Patricia Ann Costello of Virginia Beach, Va. A memorial Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. A remembrance followed at the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Old Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

ROBERT T. "BOBBY" HUGHES JR., 23, of Sayreville died Sept. 11 as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, New York City. He was employed as a margin clerk for the Bank of America. Prior to that, he delivered the Suburban newspaper for many years and worked for several local businesses including the Sayreville Bar, St. Cement’s Catering, Manhattan Bagel and Circuit City. He was a graduate of Sayreville High School and Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. He volunteered at the camp for Sayreville Brain Injured Children. Surviving are his parents, Louise and Robert Hughes; three sisters, Shanin, Leigha and Lyndsey; and his grandparents, Charlotte and Patrick Ambrosia of Old Bridge and Raymond Hughes of Sayreville. The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 6 at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville. A memorial celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the local chapter of the Salvation Army to assist those in need due to the World Trade Center tragedy.

JUDITH BEVERLY SCHWARZSCHILD ATLAS, 54, of East Brunswick died Sept. 25 at home. Surviving are her husband, Melvyn Atlas; a son, Orin of New York City; two daughters, Laurie Nesser and Marnie Atlas, both of New York City; a sister, Joan Kastrinsky of Fair Lawn; and her mother-in-law, Bert Atlas of Cranbury. Interment was in Temple B’Neth Abraham Memorial Park Cemetery, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, 195 Little Albany St., New Brunswick, NJ 08903.

EDWIN KAPUSTA, 84, of East Brunswick died Sept. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Stephanie Sciora Kapusta; three sons, Thomas Kapusta and Dennis Kapusta, both of East Brunswick, and Robert Kapusta of Helmetta; a daughter, Chris Reale of South River; a sister, Lydia Perednia of New York City; and three grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was private.

EDWARD B. MUNSON, 85, of Milltown died Sept. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. A son, Edward B. Munson Jr., died in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Bauries Munson; a daughter, Deborah Hemmerle of the Avenel section of Woodbridge; a son, Edmund N. Munson of Oakhurst; a brother, Russell Munson of Connecticut; and three grandsons. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Christ Church, 62 South Main St., Milltown, NJ 08850, or to the Milltown Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 308, Milltown, NJ 08850.
