JEAN A. De NAVE, 87, of Middletown died Sept. 26 at Holmdel Convalescent Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Middletown before moving to Holmdel nine months ago. She was a clerk for U.S. Navy Ship Store Offices, Brooklyn, for 25 years, retiring in 1974. She was also a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Domenick De Nave, in 1976; and her brother, Joseph Cincotta, in 1955. She is survived by two daughters, Carole Salvia of Middletown, and Dorothy Desiderio of the Leonardo section of Middletown; her sister, Nancy Caputo; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
GERTRUDE FRENGER, 97, of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly of Long Branch, died Oct. 10 in Lake Worth. She was predeceased by a daughter and son. She is survived by one sister; a daughter-in-law; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Interment
was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
RUTH VERONICA WOLF, 91, of Eatontown died Oct. 28 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Pittsburgh, she lived in Metuchen, Farmingdale and Tinton Falls before moving to Eatontown in March. Mrs. Wolf was a clerk in the appetizer department at Acme, Edison, for 13 years, retiring in 1980. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1966; and three sons, Paul W., Jack T. and Ronald. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Shelton of Manalapan and Janet Woelfel of Calabash, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Chapel, Farmingdale, followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
RAYMOND KRUG, 87, of West Long Branch died Oct. 24 at home. Born in Long Branch, he lived there until moving to West Long Branch in 1944. He was a 50-year member of Carpenters Local Union No. 2250, Red Bank, receiving his memorial pin in 2000. He was a communicant of St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. Mr. Krug is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stryker Krug; his son, William R. of Ocean Township; two daughters, Nancy Kroll of Fairfield, Conn., and Elaine Crocker of New York City; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Jerome’s Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. ELIZABETH J. ZERVAS, 103, of Eatontown died Oct. 30 at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Harrison and Neptune before moving to Eatontown eight years ago. She was the retired owner and operator with her husband of the Neptune Diner from 1941-50. Following that, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Zervas was predeceased by her husband, William, who died in 1948; and her son, John, in 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth P. Lappino of Eatontown; three sisters, Fannie Gainsmiller of West Orange, Ida Roccia of Newark and Sophie Gurzinsky of Toms River; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Interment
was at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.
JOSEPH M. "MICKEY" STAVOLA, 58, of Middletown died Oct. 1. Born in Middletown, he was a lifelong resident. He was the president, CEO, and co-owner with his brother of Trap Rock Industries Inc., Kingston section of Franklin Township. He was also co-owner with his brother and sisters of Dixie Lime & Stone, Florida. He operated M.J. Stavola Farms, Middletown, a thoroughbred breeding and cattle producing entity; and co-owned Driftwood Cabana Club, Sea Bright. An avid hunter, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and his other memberships included the N.J. Federation of Sportsmen’s Club, and the United Bowhunters of New Jersey. He was the recipient of several awards, including the Garden State Deer Classic, and co-owned with his brother, a Nascar Winston Cup race team that won the Daytona 500 in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Carol Hilbert Stavola of Middletown; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Andrea R. Stavola, Robert J. Stavola, William F. and Jennifer L. Stavola, Jesse D. and Jennifer A. Stavola, and Joseph M. Stavola Jr.; his daughter, Sharone M. Stavola; his brother and sister-in-law William H. and Maureen F. Stavola; two sisters, Lorraine M. and George Conway Jr., and Cynthia B. and Victor Cappetta; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. PATRICIA ANN KEENAN SCHWARZ, 65, of Long Branch died Oct. 10 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Red Bank, she lived in Sea Bright prior to moving to Long Branch three years ago. She was the retired owner and operator of Nannie’s Deli & Sub Shop, Long Branch, for 10 years, retiring in 1955. She was a member of the Sea Bright Fire Ladies, as well as an avid bingo player and traveler. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Rodney Keenan of Middletown. She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Vicky Schwarz of Long Branch; Fritz Schwarz of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Kirt Schwarz of North Bergen; three daughters and two sons-in-law, DeAnne and Geoffrey Nesbitt of Randolph, Colleen and Thomas Aleo of Reno, Nev., and Cheryl Schwarz of Highlands; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Joan Keenan Jr. of Eatontown; her sister, Marguerite Estelle of Deal; her sister-in-law, Mary Keenan of Middletown; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
STANLEY E. "MONK" RICHARDS, 70, of Eatontown, died Oct. 6 at home. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Eatontown. He was a security guard and fireman at Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport. Prior to that, he was a carpenter for Joseph L. Muscarella Construction, Maywood. He was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. He served for 55 years with the Eatontown Fire Company, as well as the Eatontown First Aid Squad. While on the squad, he suffered severe burns to his eyes when saving the life of an individual involved in a train-truck accident. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local No. 2250, Red Bank; the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks No. 2402, Eatontown; and was an assistant Scoutmaster of Troop No. 52, Eatontown. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret "Peggy" A. Bennett Richards; his son and daughter-in-law, Dane and Christine of Eatontown; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Lillian Richards of Hatch, N.M.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown, followed by interment at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
RANDOLPH "RANDY" G. MACALUSO SR., 51, of Long Branch, died Oct. 7 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. He was the meat department manager at ShopRite, West Long Branch, for 30 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. His memberships included the Amalgamated Meat Cutter & Butcher Workmen Local No. 464; BASS; New Jersey Bass Federation; and the Bass Kickers Fishing Team. He was predeceased by his father, Peter A. Macaluso Sr., in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Susan Carr Macaluso of Long Branch; two sons, Randy G. Jr. of Red Bank, and Christopher P. of Brick; his mother, Philomena "Fannie" Melillo Macaluso of Eatontown; his sister, Laurie Macaluso-Stuerken of Monmouth Beach; two brothers, Peter A. MICHAEL R. HAYES, 66, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Monmouth Beach died Sept. 21 in Monmouth Beach. Born in Madison, Wis., he lived in Vero Beach since 1995. He was the president of Johnson & Johnson Sales and Logistics Co., retiring in 1995 after 40 years. Prior to that he was president of its personal products company. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, Rumson; and Holy Cross Church, Vero Beach. His club memberships included the Notre Dame Club of Greater Vero Beach and John’s Island Club, also Vero Beach. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Kennedy Hayes in 1980. He is survived by three sons, John and Charles Hayes, both of Fair Haven, and Hugh Hayes of Hoboken; three brothers, John Hayes of Racine, Wis., James Hayes of Green Bay, Wis., and Hugh Hayes of Madison, Wis.; his sister, Mary Tomlinson of Des Moines, Iowa; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
