ROGER A. LABBÉ, 69, of Holmdel died June 28 at the Center for Hospice Care at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Augusta, Maine, he lived in Hackensack before moving to Holmdel 40 years ago. He was a tester of electronics for Bendix Aviation, Allied Signal, Eatontown, for 25 years, retiring in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He was a warden of the Knights of Columbus, St. Benedict’s Council No. 11349; and a volunteer for the St. Benedict’s food pantry. He was a former member of the Maine National Guard. He was predeceased by his father; his son, Robert N. Labbé, in 1992; and his brother, Wilfred Labbé, in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Roberta A. Eustace Labbé of Holmdel; two daughters, Karen M. Swarner of Matawan, and Andrea M. O’Connell of Long Branch; his mother, Evelyn Labbé of Augusta; three brothers, Lionel Labbé of Manchester, Maine, Richard Labbé of Vassalboro, Maine, and Raymond Labbé of Homeland, Calif.; two sisters, Doris Fleury and Constance Latno, both of Augusta; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Benedict’s Church, followed by burial at Holmdel Cemetery. DOROTHY M. COLE, 73, of Long Branch died June 27, along with her husband, in Brick after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Homestead Pharmacy, Long Branch. She was a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a member of the Auxiliary of Long Branch Lodge No. 742, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. She was predeceased by her son, Marshall W. Cole Jr., in 1964. She is survived by three sons, Paul R. Cole of West Long Branch, Richard E. Cole of Alum Bank, Pa., and Larry D. Cole, of Osterburg, Pa.; two daughters, Virginia Beach of Long Branch, and Dorothy Hecker of Spring Hill, Fla.; three brothers, Daniel Carroll of Bound Brook, William Carroll of Toms River, and John Carroll of South Carolina; four sisters, Anna Reynolds of Lee Hall, Va., Jean Taboada of Brick, Joan Warren of Oceanport, and Margie Courtney of West Long Branch; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment
was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
MARSHALL W. COLE, 76, of Long Branch died June 27 in Brick after injuries he and his wife sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Franklin, N.Y., he lived in Imler, Pa., prior to moving to Long Branch in 1947. He was a self-employed builder prior to retirement. Before that, he worked in the Long Branch post office. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2140, Long Branch, as well as American Legion Post No. 113, Bedford, Pa. He was predeceased by his son, Marshall W. Cole Jr., in 1964. He is survived by three sons, Paul R. Cole, of West Long Branch, Richard E. Cole of Alum Bank, Pa., and Larry D. Cole of Osterburg, Pa.; two daughters, Virginia Beach of Long Branch, and Dorothy Hecker of Spring Hill, Fla.; his brother, James Burkett of Long Branch; four sisters, Barbara Welle of Long Branch, Carol Voleck and Grace Gentilé, both of Florida, and Delores Harp of New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment
was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
PATRICIA M. COLLINS, 49, of Little Silver, died June 20 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident of Little Silver. She was a regional marketing director for Helping Hand Health Care, Shrewsbury. Prior to that, she was an emergency room nurse at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for 15 years. She was a communicant of Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Thompson Collins. She is survived by her father, Raymond E. Collins of Monmouth Beach; her former husband and three sons, Frederick A., Fred, Keith and Steven Gissubel, all of Little Silver; three brothers, Michael A. Collins of Hazlet, Raymond E. Collins Jr. of Marmora, and Chris Collins of Little Silver; and her sister, Kathy A. Mauer of Monmouth Beach. A Mass was at celebrated at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. ALFRED "BUCKY" FORNICOLA, 89, of Long Branch died July 11 at home. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. He was a barber for Commercial Barber Shop, Long Branch, for several years prior to retirement in 1981. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sophie Epstein Fornicola of Long Branch; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred R. and Gerri Fornicola of Toms River, and Louis W. and Teresa Fornicola of Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhoda and George Fish of Orange Park, Fla.; two brothers, Joseph Fornicola of Oceanport, and Raymond Fornicola of Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. HILDA MAY JOHNSON, 90, of Red Bank died June 24 at Holmdel Convalescent Center. She was a lifelong resident of Red Bank. She was a teacher in several New Jersey school systems before retirement. WILLIAM T. MARASCO SR., 75, of Middletown died June 20 at Holmdel Convalescent Center. Born in Altoona, Pa., he lived in Newark prior to moving to Middletown 44 years ago. He was a tool-and-die maker for 46 years, before he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Middletown Seniors and the Keansburg Seniors. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ann Policastro Marasco, in 1980. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William T. Jr. and Maryann Marasco of Red Bank; his daughter, Mary Ann Bedell of Middletown; his brother, Joseph Marasco of California; and his granddaughter A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. CHRISTOPHER J. REID, 38, of Oakhurst died July 7 at Hackensack University Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Little Silver, and moved to Oakhurst three years ago. He was self-employed as a demolition contractor with Reid and McGhee, Red Bank. He was a parishioner of St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. He was a professional boxer, known as "The Shamrock Express," and was ranked No. 1 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF). He competed for the 1988 IBF Super Middleweight Championship. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Giles; two sons, Kenneth C. and Philip G, and his daughter, Bernadette M. Reid, all of Oakhurst; his parents, John and Maureen Murphy Reid of Little Silver; three brothers, Michael Reid of Neptune City, Edward Reid of Fair Haven, and John Reid of Sea Bright; and three sisters, Laura Hiler and Carolyn Macik of Middletown, and Maureen Reid of Little Silver. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. Interment

RITA A. "MOMMOM" SHEIK, 88, of Rumson, died June 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Elizabeth, she previously lived in West Orange and moved to Rumson in 1961. She was a secretary for N.J. Bell, Newark, until retirement. Prior to that, she was a secretary for 10 years at the Monmouth University library, West Long Branch. She was a communicant of and Eucharistic minister at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. She was also a former president and member of the Rosary Altar Society at Holy Cross Church. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Sheik Sr., in 1991. She is survived by two sons, William A. Sheik Jr. of Lakewood, and John M. Sheik of Rumson; two daughters, Carol A. Doran of Shrewsbury, and Gloria M. Rowett of Adelaide, Australia; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
JAMES W.A. SMITH III, 90, of Long Branch died July 10 at home. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Long Branch for several years. He was an English teacher at Long Branch High School for 17 years, retiring in 1974. While at the high school, he was faculty adviser to its newspaper, The Trumpet. He worked for J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency, New York City. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a lieutenant commander. Following the war, he wrote 30 Navy training manuals. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nell B. Smith, in 1963. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ada Edwards Judson Smith of Long Branch; his daughter, Anderson Jane Reynolds of Spring Mount, Pa.; his stepson, William Judson; his stepdaughter, Janet Plona; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch.
