ROBERT A. SCHEIDELER, 75, of Middletown died Dec. 24 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Keansburg before moving to Middletown in 1968. He was a pipefitter and steamfitter for United Association of Journeymen Teamsters Local 14, where he worked for 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Enid. He is survived by six sons and five daughters-in-law, Douglas K. and Lynn of Hazlet; David and Lisa of Las Vegas, James R. and Sueanne of Great Falls Mont., Robert A. of Middletown, Thomas A. and Debbie of Mannville, and Michael P. and Elizabeth of Atlantic Highlands; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diana L. Brown of Salt Lake City, Susan and Charles Curmi of Middletown, and Nancy and Ricardo Vecilla of N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Entombment was at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
JOHN F. O’BRIEN, 78, of Atlantic Highlands died Dec. 26 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Atlantic Highlands four years ago. He was a cab driver. He was a U.S Army veteran. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Queen of All Saints Church, Brooklyn. He is survived by two brothers Terence of Long Island, N.Y., and Joseph of Brooklyn; two nephews; and one niece. The funeral Mass was celebrated at Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, followed by burial at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.
ROBERT F. MAZUR, 56, of North Middletown died Dec. 27 at home. He was born in Jersey City and moved to Middletown 27 years ago. He was a retired Eastern regional manager for the accounting department of IBM, White Plains, N.Y. He is survived by three brothers, James of Trenton, and John and Frank, both of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth.
GAETANA ROSE PARIS, 56, of Matawan died Dec. 27 at home. Born in New York City, she was employed as a beautician for more than 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Michael; two sons, William and Scott; and her mother, Josephine Salamando. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement’s Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
FRANK J. SLOVENZ JR., 67, of Holmdel died Dec. 27 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Red Bank, he had lived in Keyport before moving to Holmdel 38 years ago. He was an electrical engineer. He was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church, Hazlet. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard, in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his father, Frank Slovenz of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Frank III of Eatontown; three daughters, Marylynn Furiato of Shrewsbury, Lisa Anna Slovenz of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Nancy Lee Slovenz of Holmdel; a sister, Diane O’Neill of Holmdel; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
ROBERT EARL SCHWABIK, 83, of Middletown died Dec. 26 at home. Born in New York City, he had lived in Merrimack, N.H., and in New Milford before moving to Middletown in 1983. He was a design draftsman for Sun Chemical Co., Merrimack, for 34 years. Following his retirement from Sun Chemical, he worked for Tamsco Corp., Eatontown, for 9 years, retiring at the age of 76. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees. He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Brennan of Belford, and Kathryn and Bruce Wicks of Homer, Ill.; a sister, Margaret Ericson of Whiting; and two grandsons. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
WILLIAM C. RYDER of Matawan died Dec. 15 at Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly. Born in Plainfield, he lived in Perth Amboy prior to moving to Matawan 51 years ago. He was a courier for Century 21, Cliffwood. Prior to that, he was a machinist for Mack Motors, Plainfield for 17 years. He also owned and operated Town Tavern and Ann’s Party Supplies, Matawan. He was a communicant of First Baptist Church, Matawan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was past president of Washington Engine Fire Co. No. 1, Matawan. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Behr Wiggins in 2001. He is survived by two sons, Barry Wiggins of Aberdeen, and William Ryder of Matawan; four daughters, Maureen McGuire of Tinton Falls, Lisa Guarino of Red Bank, Ann Marie Schellor of Hazlet, and Jane Ryder of Matawan; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. CHRISTIAN M. RUSSO, 25, of Keyport died Dec. 31 in Glen Falls, N.Y. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Union Beach prior to moving to Keyport. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Louis and Doreen Russo of Middlesex; his mother and stepfather, Carol and Gerald Cohen of Keyport; three brothers, Louis T. Russo Jr. and Michael Russo, both of Keyport, and Zachary Russo of Middlesex; his stepsister, Kelly Ickes of Keyport; and his stepbrother, Paul Cohen of the East Keansburg section of Middletown. A funeral Mass was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery.
JAMES C. WALKER SR., 63, of West Long Branch died Dec. 23 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in New York, he had lived in West Long Branch since 1952. Mr. Walker was the owner and operator of the Eatontown Amoco Service Station from 1976 to 1986. He also worked for Coast Office Supply, Shrewsbury, for eight years, and was a security guard at Monmouth Park Race Track, Oceanport, for 15 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a communicant of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch, where he was a member of the choir for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Red Bank Barber Shop Quartet. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lenora "Jeanne" DeSantis Walker; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Christine Walker of Jewette City, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Stephen Ferraro of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Joanne Walker of Eatontown; a sister, Carolyn Walker of Colts Neck; three grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Dorothy C. DeSantis of Long Branch; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan DeSantis of Middletown; four nephews; and one niece. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Jerome Church, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
MATTHEW BERTRAM, 25, of Matawan, formerly of Old Bridge, died Dec. 19 in Ashland, Ore. He was a 1995 graduate of Old Bridge High School, where he was a member of the hockey team. His father, Anthony R. Bertram, died in 1998. Surviving are his mother, Patricia Monza Bertram of Matawan, and a brother, Anthony W. Bertram of Bloomfield. Memorial services were held at Calvary Chapel, Old Bridge.
