TERRENCE E. MALOY, 81, of Matawan died Nov. 10 at Bayshore Community Health Center, Holmdel. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to moving to Matawan 35 years ago. He was a retired textile salesman for Avondale Mills and Dan River Mills, both New York City, for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel and fighter pilot during World War II, and for 27 years following. He graduated from the New York Military Academy. He was a member of the Officers Club of Fort Monmouth. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Hugel, in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeannie Barraco Maloy of Matawan; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jeanne Maloy of Matawan, Patricia Maloy of Middlesex, and Joanne and William Majeski of Marlboro; and three grandchildren. A burial Mass was offered at Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was at Holmdel Cemetery.
JOHN FURKA, 85, of Middletown died Nov. 10 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Forked River and Bayonne prior to moving to Middletown four years ago. He was an office manager for Charles Mundt & Sons, Jersey City, for 18 years, retiring in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attained the rank of master sergeant He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans No. 81; Knights of Columbus Council No. 6522; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 62, all Bayonne. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Fienan Furka of Middletown; five sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kathy Furka of Sparta, Peter and Judy Furka of Secaucus, Thomas and Nancy Furka of Forked River, Joseph and Marie Furka of High Bridge, and James and Angela Furka of Lafayette, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and William Ambruzs of Middletown, and Catherine and Kevin Krafft of Lanoka Harbor; a sister, Mary Fedack of Inverness, Fla.; a brother, Peter Furka of Kearny; and 17 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment
was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
A memorial service will be held for DOMINICK E. CALIA, 40, of Manalapan missing since the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. He was a vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald, where he worked as a municipal bond broker for the past eight years. He was a 1979 graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School in New York and began his career in the financial industry in 1980 at Drexel Burnham Lambert. In 1990 he moved with his wife, Janet, from Brooklyn to Manalapan. He was a coach for his children’s travel soccer and baseball teams. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Janet; two daughters, Jeanna, age 12, and Jaclyn, 9; a son, Dominick, 7; his mother, Mildred; three brothers, John R., Richard and Joseph; and two sisters, Christine Costa and Jean Ann Kuhn. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all those who have reached out to support them during this tragedy. A memorial fund in honor of Dominick has been established for his children. ANNA LAUX MURTHA KELLER, 90, of Middletown died Oct. 18 at home. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she lived in Newark and relocated to Middletown 10 years ago. She was a retired communication specialist for Pabst Brewery for 15 years, retiring in 1965. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a member of the Middletown Senior Citizen Center, as well as the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1439, Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Keller in 1967; and her first husband, Theodore Keller in 1950. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Theodore and Marilyn Laux Jr. of Edison; her daughter, Catherine Fardella of Keyport; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth, followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
EMMA JANKOWSKI, 83, of Aberdeen died Oct. 25 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in the Aberdeen/Matawan area, she was a lifelong resident. She was a waitress at Walt’s Tavern & Restaurant, Aberdeen, for several years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Jankowski, in 1980; and her sister, Mary Jankowski. She is survived by her brother, Walter Jankowski of Aberdeen; and two sisters, Helen Jankowski of Aberdeen, and Josephine Montani of Perth Amboy. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, both Keyport.
MARY C. GASSER, 44, of Holmdel died Oct. 28 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Long Branch, she lived in Middletown and the Leonardo section of Middletown prior to moving to Holmdel two years ago. She was a loan administrator for Fleet Bank in Freehold and Red Bank for 14 years. She was the treasurer of the Port Monmouth Fire House Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Continental Drum and Bugle Corps, Middletown. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Fauteck and Dolores Connolly. She is survived by her daughter Heather Gasser of Leonardo; a son, Aarin Gasser of Trenton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Johanna and David Nolasco of Middletown, and Robin and Frank Keys of Tennessee; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be Oct. 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Nov. 1 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo.
MARIA T. ODDO, 95, of Hazlet died Oct. 18 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in San Cataldo, Sicily, Italy, she lived there and in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Lincroft section of Middletown prior to moving to Hazlet. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and singing. She was a communicant of St. Leo The Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Oddo. She is survived by six children, Victor, Phillip, Catherine, Joan, Sally and Theresa; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. Interment
was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
JOHN C. BRAZAS, 54, of Middletown died Oct. 22 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown, from complications of Pick’s disease. Born in Monmouth Beach, he lived there for 31 years prior to moving to Middletown. He was a licensed electrical contractor and the founder and president of John Brazas Inc. Prior to that he worked for the Ranney School, Tinton Falls. He was a communicant of the Church of The Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. His civic activities included former chief and a life member of the Monmouth Beach Fire Department, a member of the Monmouth Beach First Aid Squad, and special police officer as well as the civil defense director of Monmouth Beach. He also restored old military vehicles rescued from swollen tides in Monmouth Beach, most notably the "Muck Duck." He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Malley in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathleen Healy Brazas of Middletown; his sister, Dorothea Pierce of Long Branch; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at The Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth Beach Fire Department of the Monmouth Beach First Aid Squad.
PAUL S. SADOWSKI, 43, of the Belford section of Middletown died Oct. 24 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Belleville, he lived in Belford most of his life. He was the owner and operator of P & P Renovations, Belford, the past four years. Prior to that, he was a supervisor of printing and binding at Commerce Clearing Co., Clark, for 13 years. He was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge No. 2179. He was a powerlifter and lifted competitively, achieving the title of "Teenage Champion of the USA." He was predeceased by his father, John Sadowski. He is survived by his mother, Marie Sadowski of Belford; his grandmother, Mary Sillinski of Belford; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Myriam Sadowski of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his fiancée, Donna Boehner of Belford; and two nephews. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. RODNEY JAMES WOTTON, 36, of Middletown has been missing since the collapse of World Trade Center Tower 2 Sept. 11, and is presumed deceased. After kissing his wife good-bye Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m., he called her at 9:12 a.m. to say good-bye, knowing he would not see the birth of his child the following week. He grew up in the Lincroft section of Middletown, graduated from Middletown High School South, and attended Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. He was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church, and recently attended St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, with his young family. An intensely dedicated person, he was senior vice president of Web site design for Citibank, N.Y. Prior to that, he worked in systems management at Fiduciary Trust, N.Y., where he worked in data center management specializing in disaster recovery. In his youth, he taught swimming to the physically challenged at the Camp Hope Park pool, Lincroft Acres. He enjoyed golf, going to the beach, softball, and Rollerblading. After reluctantly hanging up his running shoes because of knee problems, his passions became weight-lifting, vegetable gardening, and a 1988 Ford Mustang. He will be remembered for his joyfully optimistic outlook on life, quick willingness to help others, conscientious dedication to his job, and his tender affection for his wife and daughter. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and infant son, Pat Greene-Wotton, Dorothea and Rodney Patrick, all of Middletown; his parents, Stewart and Jean Wotton; two brothers and sisters-in-law Brian and Toni Wotton; and Dave and Marty Wotton; in-laws Brendan and Dorothy Greene; sisters-in-law Brenda Ross-Greene and Maureen Greene; brother-in-law Sean Fuerstenberger; three nieces; two nephews; his "Grandma" Hall; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held simultaneously with baby Rodney Patrick’s baptism, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church.
