EDWARD W. ARNOLD, 74, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died Aug. 7 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he resided in the Leonardo section of Middletown 36 years and moved to Port Monmouth five years ago. He was a driver for Eigenraugh Farms, Middletown, for 10 years until his retirement in 1978. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, East Keansburg section of Middletown. He was predeceased by a son, Frederick M. Connor in 2000 and a sister, Dorothy Schultheiss in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Blackburn Arnold of Port Monmouth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Paul Flannigan Sr. of Hazlet, and Karen Lee and Richard Milko Jr. of Westwego, La.; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Valerie Arnold of Whiting; six grandchildren; two nephews; and a niece. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo.
RITA T. GENTILE, 85, of Keansburg, died Aug. 8 at Bayside Manor, Keansburg. Born in Holmdel, she lived most of her life in Middletown and moved to Keansburg one year ago. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joseph Gentile of Keansburg; her son, Joseph Gentile of Ponder, Texas; her daughter, Mary Gehlhaus of Little Silver; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
JEAN W. HARRIS, 69, of Middletown died July 23 in Hollywood, Fla. Born in Freehold, she resided in Middletown for several years. A registered X-ray technician, she was employed by Orthopedic Associates and Sports, Red Bank, retiring in 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Desbiens of the Lincroft section of Middletown, and Susan Cuozzo of Beachwood; a son, Roger Harris of Hollywood, Fla.; a sister, Eileen McGowan of Willingboro; and six grandchildren. Interment
was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
TONYA J. KELLER, 48, of Middletown died July 24 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Marysville, Tenn., she lived in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Middletown 26 years ago. She was a recreation director for Bayshore Recreation Center, Middletown, for 26 years, as well as director of the Just for Toddlers program. Her memberships included the North Middletown Task Force, the "Middletown Day" committee, and the N.J. Recreation and Park Association. An active sportswoman, she was a coach and player for the Bayshore Women’s Softball League, a co-founder of the Bayshore Men’s Softball League, and a coordinator and coach for the Jesse Owens Track & Field Team. She was predeceased by her father, Robert G. Keller. She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Keller of Carlisle, Pa.; two brothers, Robert Keller of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Scott Keller of Akron, Ohio; and her sister, Tamara Keller of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. REGINA C. WACHOWICZ, 92, of Middletown died July 24 at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she lived in Toms River for 30 years prior to moving to Middletown. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Wachowicz, in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Regina Stricker of Middletown; her sister, Wanda Roman of Florida; three grandsons, Peter Seaman of Corvallis, Ore., Michael Seaman of Austin, Texas, and William Seaman of Portland, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
MARY E. OGONOWSKI FERRADOR, 92, of Hazlet died July 28 at Brother Bona Venture Extended Care at Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth. Born in Poland, she previously lived in Elizabeth before relocating to Hazlet in 1971. She was a crossing guard for the Hazlet Township Board of Education for 10 years until 1986. Prior to that, she was a licensed practical nurse at Elizabeth General Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for 46 years, retiring in 1976. She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and sang with the adult and funeral choirs. She was a member of the Bayshore Columbiettes Council No. 2858. She was predeceased by her husband, John Ferrador in 1972. She is survived by her son, John M. Ferrador of Howell; her daughter, Adele Hudak of Toms River; her brother, Joseph Ogonowski of Linden; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Entombment was at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport.
MARIA M. INGUAGGIATO, 97, of Aberdeen died July 29 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Palermo, Italy, she lived in Newark prior to moving to Aberdeen 55 years ago. She was a seamstress for several years. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Inguaggiato in 1977. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Mullaney of Aberdeen; two sons, Morris of Florida, and Charles of Matawan; her sister, Santa Riggio of Matawan; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be Aug. 1 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
WALTER L. DEVEREAUX, 87, of Spotswood died July 18 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. His wife, Christine Miller Devereaux, died in 1965. Surviving are two sons, Michael of Greenville, Mich., and William of South River; four daughters, Regina Boyle of Monroe, and Joyce Dawson, Roberta Ryan and Jacqueline Koslowski, all of Spotswood; two sisters, Florence Dalgaver of Orange and Madeline Mergner of Hazlet; three brothers, Joseph and Edward Devereux, both of Orange, and Eugene Devereux of the Forked River section of Lacey; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South River. Interment
was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hanover.
EDNA MURIEL BOOTH VAN RIKXOORT, 98, of Middletown died July 8 at King James Care Center, Middletown. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she previously lived in Union Beach, Keyport and Hazlet, moving to Middletown in August. She was employed in the shipping department of LaVoie’s, Morganville, for 16 years, and retired in 1967. Prior to that, she worked in the Edison Arsenal. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Van Rikxoort in 1973, and her son, Louis Van Rikxoort, in 1996. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Florence Van Rikxoort of Union Beach; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one nephew; and three nieces. Interment
was at Rosedale-Rosehill Cemetery, Linden. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
GEORGE T. OLSEN, 85, of Cliffwood died July 2 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he lived in Keyport before relocating to Cliffwood 25 years ago. He was the head set-up man for Carborundum, Keasby, for 36 years until he retired in 1981. He was a professional musician and played in nightclubs along the Jersey Shore. He was a member of Keyport United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Keyport Seniors, and enjoyed surf fishing and piano playing. He was predeceased by his wife, Estelle W. Harris, in 1999. He is survived by three sons, Robert Olsen of Keyport, James T. Olsen of West Chester, Pa., and Richard G. Olsen of Holmdel; two daughters, Diane Czyzewski of Bayville, and Lynn Tuttle of Vernon, Conn.; his sister, Ruth Hansen of Cheshire, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
