JOHN T. PETERSEN, 79, of Lakewood died July 2 at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital, Ventura, Calif. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Port Reading prior to moving to Lakewood seven years ago. He was the owner and operator of J.D. Trucking, Port Reading, for 50 years before retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Geneva Petersen of Lakewood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Charles Williams of Oxnard, Calif., and Lisa and Michael Enright of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Esther Petersen Jr. of Jackson, and Jeffery and Catherine Petersen of Jacksonville, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Interment
was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
JEANNE DALY SALACINSKI, 50, of Middletown died July 3 at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she moved to Middletown in 1980. She was a legal secretary for K. Hovnanian, Raritan, the past six years. Prior to that she was an executive secretary at Columbus Lines Inc. for 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was involved with the PTA and Scout troops at St. Mary’s School for several years. She was predeceased by her infant son, Robert Salacinski, in 1990. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Joseph Salacinski of Middletown; her parents, Stephen A. Daly and Helen D. Rebracca of Middletown; two sons, Jeffrey and Mark Salacinski, both of Middletown; and her brother, Glen Daly of San Diego, Calif. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church followed by entombment at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
JOHN M. RUNDY, 73, of Matawan died July 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Manhattan, he lived in Sayreville prior to relocating to Matawan 34 years ago. He was an engineering department manager for UPS, Manhattan, for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Dunleavy Rundy of Matawan; his son, John P. Rundy of Holmdel; his brother, Nicholas Rondino of Long Island, N.Y.; three sisters, Minnie Lang, Louise Stanton and Viola Curley; and two grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery.
ROGER A. LABBÉ, 69, of Holmdel died June 28 at the Center for Hospice Care at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Augusta, Maine, he lived in Hackensack before moving to Holmdel 40 years ago. He was a tester of electronics for Bendix Aviation, Allied Signal, Eatontown, for 25 years, retiring in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He was a warden of the Knights of Columbus, St. Benedict’s Council No. 11349, and a volunteer for the St. Benedict’s food pantry. He was a former member of the Maine National Guard. He was predeceased by his father; his son, Robert N. Labbé, in 1992; and his brother, Wilfred Labbé, in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Roberta A. Eustace Labbé of Holmdel; two daughters, Karen M. Swarner of Matawan, and Andrea M. O’Connell of Long Branch; his mother, Evelyn Labbé of Augusta; three brothers, Lionel Labbé of Manchester, Maine, Richard Labbé of Vassalboro, Maine, and Raymond Labbé of Homeland, Calif.; two sisters, Doris Fleury and Constance Latno, both of Augusta; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was said at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Holmdel Cemetery. MARY WHITE, 58, of Howell died June 17 at home. She was a licensed practical nurse at Perth Amboy General Hospital and later at the Manor until 1989. She was a member of St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. Born in Newark, she lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Howell 28 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Ralph White; two sons, Ralph J. of Freehold Township and Timothy of South Brunswick; four daughters, Marguerite White of North Lauderdale, Fla., Jenine Heaton of Manchester, Jennie White of Montclair and Angela White of Howell; her parents, Louis and Marguerite Bentsen of Forked River; four brothers, Louis Bentsen of Georgia, Jack Lewis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Edward Lewis of Pottstown, Pa., and Danny Murray of Kearny; seven sisters, Marguerite Lonseth of Chicago, Christie Casey of Howell, Kathy Lyons of Aberdeen, Elizabeth Barbounis of Wharton, Peggy Riveria of Harrison, Barbara Banchak of Kearny and Joan Lewis of California; and two grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. Interment
was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
GRACE W. STOTHART, of West Long Branch died June 19 at home. A lifelong resident of West Long Branch, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Long Branch, where she was co-founder of the Historical Room. Her memberships included the Women’s Society of Christian Service Official Board, and the Stitch and Chatter Ladies Club. Her activities included travel, sewing and her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Thomas D. Stothart in 1995; and two brothers, Preston and Robert Wood. She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Stothart of Oceanport; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Marc Woontner of Oceanport; her brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Margaret Wood of the Lincroft section of Middletown; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Claire Johnson of West Long Branch, and Lois and John Keevil of Oceanport; 16 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. PATRICIA M. COLLINS, 49, of Little Silver, died June 20 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident of Little Silver. She was a regional marketing director for Helping Hand Health Care, Shrewsbury. Prior to that, she was an emergency room nurse at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for 15 years. She was a communicant of Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Thompson Collins. She is survived by her father, Raymond E. Collins of Monmouth Beach; her former husband and three sons, Frederick A., Fred, Keith and Steven Gissubel, all of Little Silver; three brothers, Michael A. Collins of Hazlet, Raymond E. Collins Jr. of Marmora, and Chris Collins of Little Silver; and her sister, Kathy A. Mauer of Monmouth Beach. A burial Mass was celebrated at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. WILSON E. DEAKIN, 90, of Vernon, Conn., died June 22 at Foxhill Nursing Home, Vernon. Born in Phillipsburg, Pa., he had lived in Atlantic Highlands from 1972 to 1993 before moving to Vernon. Mr. Deakin was a physical therapist at Merck & Co., Rahway, for 33 years before retiring in 1972; prior to that he had worked for hospitals in the Philadelphia area. He also taught bridge in adult schools and private groups for nearly 20 years. He was a graduate of Temple University Hospital and the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing for Men, both in Philadelphia. Mr. Deakin was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Sweeney Deakin, who died in 1987; and a son, Thomas A., who was a municipal court judge in Atlantic Highlands, in 1992. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Wilson Jr. and Elizabeth Deakin of Vernon; daughter-in-law Maureen Deakin of Red Bank; three sisters, Elizabeth Waugh of Saginaw, Mich., Doris Wheeler of Bristol, Pa., and Edith Takatsuka of Willow Grove, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. HELEN L. GARVEY, 76, of Middletown died June 22 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Jersey City before moving to Middletown in 1971. Mrs. Garvey was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond Hayes, William Hayes, Albert Hayes and Edward Hayes. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward; three sons, Edward of Marietta, Ga., Kenneth of Scotsdale, Ariz., and Robert of Port Monmouth; a sister, Marion White of Middletown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
