DENNIS VANCE, 84, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 8 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are his wife, Jean Kalinowski Vance; two sons, David Vance of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge and Dennis Vance of Jackson; two daughters, Barbara Carlson of Gillette Marilynn Fogarty of Berkley, Mich.; two sisters, Alice Merrill of Maine and Lois Lakey of Florida; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment
was private.
ANNE HORNER of Plumsted Township died Oct. 1 at home. She was born in Hornerstown and had lived there most of her life before moving to Plumsted seven years ago. She was employed at Eastern Aircraft in Ewing during World War II as a riveter. After the war she and her husband owned and operated school buses and she retired after 40 years driving for the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education. She was a member of the Upper Freehold Baptist Church, a member of Friends of the Old Yellow Meeting House and chairperson for the Yellow Meeting House Cemetery
for many years. She was a former Sunday School superintendent for the Hornerstown Baptist Church and a past president of the New Egypt Chapter of Deborah Hospital Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman B. Horner; and two sisters, Neva Amburgey Mullins and Thelma Oakerson Errickson. Surviving are a son, Monte L. Horner of Plumsted; a sister, Lorraine Oakerson Bullock of Plumsted; and three grandchildren. Interment

BRIAN C. STEN, 37, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Oct. 5 in Broward Medical Center, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was born in Neptune, and had lived in Point Pleasant Borough before moving to Fort Lauderdale six years ago. Mr. Sten was a police officer for the Metro-Dade County Police Department in Florida until April 2002. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Gloria J. and Michael A Smith of Jackson; a daughter, Samantha M. Sten of Wall Township; two sisters, Leslie Sten of Williamsburg, Va., and Stephanie Alafouzos of Toms River; and one uncle, John H. Sten of Bluffton, S.C. A private interment was held.
JOYCE E. SULLIVAN, 56, of Howell died Oct. 5 at home. She was born in Queens, N.Y., and lived in Hicksville, N.Y. before moving to Howell 12 years ago. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. She was predeceased by her father, Hugh Arthur Bartholomew. Surviving are her husband, Dennis J. Sullivan of Howell; two sons, Dennis J. Jr. and Sean, both of Howell; a daughter, Denise Sullivan of Medford, Long Island, N.Y.; her mother, Theresa Bartholomew, of Medford; a sister, Marilyn Sobowski of Plainview, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. Interment
was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
PHILIP HARVEY PATTERSON, 78, of Englishtown died Sept. 27 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Eatontown, he had lived in Englishtown for the past 70 years. Mr. Patterson was a bricklayer for Bricklayers and Craftsmen Union Local No. 5, New Brunswick, before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member and past commander of the Molly Pitcher Post No. 434 American Legion, Englishtown; and a member of the Englishtown Fire Department, the Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad, and the Molly Pitcher Stamp Club. Mr. Patterson was predeceased by his wife, Ernestine (née Koenig), who died in 1999. He is survived by a son, Philip H. Jr. of Howell, three daughters, Diana Richardson of Freehold, Alice Strong of Jackson and Sheryl Wood of Washington, N.C.; a brother, Edward of Monroe; a sister, Phyllis Gilbert of Parlin; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Interment
was in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
DOROTHY VERONICA PATOCK, 58, of Jackson, died July 23 in Jackson. She was born in Newark and resided in Neptune before relocating to Jackson six months ago. She was employed as a receptionist for the law firm Madnick, Millstein, Mason, Weber, Farnsworth and Collazo, retiring in 2000. Surviving are her husband, Thomas J.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Sean P. and Lynda Patock of New Bedford, Mass., and Mark T. Patock of West Long Branch; a former daughter-in-law, Alison Patock of Neptune; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eve Hornlein of Old Bridge; and three grandchildren. Services were held at Hamilton United Methodist Church, Neptune.
OLGA ZARKEVICH, 98, of Freehold, died July 15 at John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Zarkevich was born in Russia and had lived in Freehold for 55 years. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore, who died in 1977. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church, followed by interment at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Jackson.
KEITH PATRICK LAVDEN, 12, of Howell, died July 14 at home. Born in Lakewood, he was a lifelong resident of Howell. Keith was a seventh-grade student at Howell Middle School North. He played baseball in the North Howell Little League. Surviving are his parents, Walter and Paula Nocera Lavden; a sister, Gabrielle Anna; his maternal grandmother, Carol Nocera of Howell; his uncles and aunts, Jeff and Margarita Palomo, and Kevin, Donna and Ann Lavden; and his cousins, Ashley, John, Nicky, Margarita and Christopher.
RUSSELL F. TERHUNE, 49, of Middletown, died July 20 as a result of injuries from a plane crash in Jackson. Born in Red Bank, he lived in Middletown most of his life. He was a sheet metal worker at Bonland, Wayne, for 29 years. He was a member of Sheetmetal Local No. 25, Carlstadt. He was an active airplane enthusiast, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years and his daughter, Nancy Hock Terhune and Danielle Terhune of Middletown; his parents, Frederick and Wilma Terhune of Farmingdale; his brother, Earl Terhune of Jackson; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth Rye of the Belford section of Middletown, Terrie Carney of San Diego, Calif., and Star and Stephen Krist of Farmingdale; and several nieces and nephews.
FELICISIMA ARENAL SANTOS, 83, of Freehold Township, died July 6 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Philippines, she came to the United States in 1981 and lived in Howell before moving to Freehold Township 13 years ago. Mrs. Santos was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Gaudencio M., who died in 1977. Surviving are five sons, Willie of Howell, Pete and Flor, both of the Philippines, and Teddy and Joe, both of Jackson; two daughters, Fely Perez of Jackson and Angieh Santos of Freehold Township; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
