Rita Elizabeth Harrison Oberdick
Mrs. Oberdick, 88, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died June 3 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in New Monmouth since 1954. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of and member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. She was also a member of its Over 50 Club, Wednesday Lunch Club, and Middletown Bridge Club. She was predeceased by her husband, William Oberdick, in 1962. She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, William J. and Barbara Oberdick of Cleveland, Ohio, Ronald J. Oberdick of New York City, James and Jan Oberdick of Middletown, Robert and Barbara Oberdick of Bridgewater, and Michael J. Harrison of Ocean Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen M. and John Byrnes of Washington, D.C., and Patricia Ann and Thomas Connolly of Red Bank; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Robert Tanner of Princeton Junction; a brother, James Harrison of New Port Ritchey, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Church. Burial

Jean Sampson Cybulski
Mrs. Cybulski, 73, of South River, formerly of East Brunswick, died May 22 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Joseph F. Cybulski, died in 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Roxanne Maxson of South River and Bernadette Epperson of Houston; two sons, Joseph Cybulski of Long Branch and Mark Cybulski of South River; two sisters, Joan Testen of Sayre, Pa., and Florence Grivner of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; a brother, William Sampson of Maryland; and seven grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment
was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Blanche Coryell Catelli
Mrs. Catelli, of Little Silver, died June 1 at St. Barnabas Hospice Unit at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Frenchtown, she resided there before moving to Little Silver. Mrs. Catelli was the former business manager, with her daughter Carol, at Capricorn Eye, Little Silver. Prior to that, she co-owned Antiques & Treasures, Rumson, with her daughter Janice Brennan, and worked at Fanny Farmer Candies, Red Bank. She was a communicant of Rumson Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore E. Catelli; and a son, Ronald T. Catelli. She is survived by two daughters, Carol L. Granato of Pennington and Janice A. Brennan of Rumson; a sister, Thelma Smith of Burlington; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Catelli; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment

Robert L. Clark
Mr. Clark, 72, of Hazlet died June 2 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Passaic, he resided in Asbury Park and Fair Haven prior to moving to Hazlet in 1994. He was an appliance salesman at A&S Stores, Eatontown, for eight years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he was employed at Anderson TV and Appliance, Red Bank, for 10 years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by a son, Richard J. Clark of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Joan O’Brien and Patricia Brennan, both Hazlet; and one granddaughter. Burial

Walter Robert Neidhardt
Mr. Neidhardt, 93, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township in 1989. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he had served as an airplane recognition instructor in Stelton, Va. He was a graduate of Oswego High School, Oswego, N.Y., and earned a bachelor of science degree in 1934 from St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., through which he also received in 1948 a master’s degree in education. He was a member of St. Lawrence’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, as well as its football and track teams. A former teacher at Oswego High School, he then taught math and science in the Arlington school system in Poughkeepsie, where he was also an assistant coach for the football, track and cross-country teams. In the Arlington district, he organized the first adult education program, out of which grew "Club 60, " the area’s first senior citizen organization. Mr. Neidhardt retired from the Arlington school system in 1975 as junior high school principal. While living in Poughkeepsie, he was an active member of the First Congregational Church and was involved as well in many civic affairs, serving on the board of several local organizations. He was instrumental in forming the Arlington Rotary Club, where he was a charter member and its fifth president. A Paul Harris fellow, he served as rotary district governor (District No. 721) from 1978-79 and also founded the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference, which he conducted for four years. Mr. Neidhardt served as the first secretary and second vice president of the Applewood Estates Residents Association and organized the Health and Wellness Committee, serving as its first chairman. In addition, he arranged for the continuing care residence centers to become a state organization, for which he was its first president. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theodora Dritsas Neidhardt in 1950, and his second wife, Hazel Whitehead Neidhardt, in 1998, as well as his siblings, Nelson, Blanche and Donald Neidhardt. Surviving are his wife, Florence Griffin Neidhardt, and her children, Nan of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James of Poughkeepsie; a daughter and son-in-law, Tedi and David Janksy of Sunbury, Pa.; two grandsons and their wives, including Gregory and Dulce Jansky of Little Silver; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at Applewood Estates. Burial

Freeda Anne Harfeld Savage
Mrs. Savage, 97, of Richmond, Va., died July 12 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond. She was a lifelong resident of Richmond. She was a co-founder of Temple Beth El, Richmond, and volunteered at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, both Richmond. She also raised funds for Hadassah, which honored her with its Woman of Valor Award. She also received the Sofie Stahl Award for outstanding community service for her work with the Gila Chapter of B’nai Brith Women. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Philip F. Savage in 1977. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Adelaide S. and Harold S. Komar of Little Silver; a son, Alfred Savage of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Bliley Funeral Home, Richmond. Burial

Herbert J. Erickson
Mr. Erickson, 89, of Red Bank died Aug. 1 at home. Born in St. Michael’s, Md., he resided there before moving to Red Bank 14 years ago. Mr. Erickson was a marine engineer at George Sharp, New York City, before his retirement. While at the company, he also worked as a propulsion design specialist and helped design propulsion for the first nuclear-powered submarine, the USN Nautilus. He enjoyed woodwork, and made furniture and decoys. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 yeas, Jane Stenberg Erickson, in 1983; and a brother, Edwin Erickson. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and D. Travis Engen of New Canaan, Conn., and Nancy and Dale Wenger of Bel Air, Md.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Aug. 21 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Margaret R. Enrico
Mrs. Enrico, 77, of Cape Coral, Fla., died July 6 at Southwestern Regional Hospital, Fort Meyers, Fla. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there and in Marlboro before moving to Florida 17 years ago. A homemaker, she is survived by her husband, Fred Enrico; a son, Joseph Enrico of Reston, Va.; a daughter, Margaret Enrico-Gennaro of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Louis and William DeMeo, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Roberta Ward of Cincinnati and Frances Ianni of Marlboro; and five grandchildren. Cremation was private in Florida. A memorial service was be held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge.
Angela D. McGovern
Mrs. McGovern, 69, of Rumson died July 14 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph F. McGovern; a son, Joseph P. McGovern of Fair Haven; three daughters, Anna (Stenger) Wanser of Pennsylvania, Dorothea Bickel of Hammonton and Kathleen Parks of Beverly; a brother, Anthony "Cappy" Piscitelli; two sisters, Dorothy Martinez and Marie Piscitelli; and nine grandchildren. Helena Stump Burns
Mrs. Burns, 49, of San Diego, and formerly Rumson, died July 6 at home. She was an artist and had her own line of clothing, greeting cards, paintings and jewelry. She was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School. She enjoyed scuba diving, and was an environmental activist. Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, Karl Burns; her mother, Helene Stump of Red Bank; six sisters, Cecilia Fahey of Springfield, Mass., Mary Gartland of Middletown, Christine Carhart of Rumson, Roberta Stump of Santee, Calif., Susie Stump of Atlantic Highlands, and Jean Dull of Amityville, N.Y.; three brothers, Roger Stump of Shrewsbury, James Stump of Newland, N.C., and John Stump of Davidsonville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. James F. Cronin
Mr. Cronin, 77, of Hazlet died July 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided there before moving to Hazlet in 1957. He was employed at Shoreland Water Co., Hazlet, for 10 years, retiring in 1993. Prior to that, he was employed at American National Can, Chicago, for 28 years. Mr. Cronin served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Vincent Lombardi Council, Leonardo section of Middletown. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jacklyn Cronin; and a grandson, Joseph Cronin. Mr. Cronin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Perrin Cronin; four sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Susan Cronin of Rumson, Timothy and Laura Cronin of Howell, Robert and Phyllis Cronin of Red Bank, and Peter and Kim Cronin of Little Silver; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maribeth and Robert Cherry of Whiting, and Eileen and Kevin Giles of Freehold Township; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
