KATHERINE PELIOTIS, 87, of Lakewood, died July 15 in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mrs. Peliotis was born in New York City and had lived there before moving to Lakewood. She was a homemaker and was predeceased by her husband, Steve. Surviving are a daughter, Diane Palazzo of Toms River; three grandchildren; and a niece, Sharon Megill of Farmingdale. Interment
was in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
STEPHEN WILLIAM SHUTZER SR., 51, of Jackson, died July 23 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Neptune and had lived in Freehold Township before moving to Scotts Bluff, Neb., and then Lincoln, Neb. He lived in Nebraska for 22 years before moving to Jackson three months ago. Mr. Shutzer was a counselor for the Nebraska State Correctional Facility in Lincoln. Prior to that he was a police officer in Scotts Bluff, Neb., and in Seaside. He was a graduate of Freehold High School. Surviving are a son, Stephen W. Shutzer Jr. of Lincoln, Neb.; his mother, Ella Louk Shutzer of Jackson; and a sister, Cynthia L. Grant of Marlboro. ALVIN L. STONEY, 65, of Howell, died Feb. 22 at home. Born in Beach Haven, he lived in Manalapan before moving to Howell in 1978. He was a truck driver for the Monmouth County Park System, Lincroft, for the past two years. He was a member of the Friday Night Men’s Bowling League at Howell Lanes, Howell. He was predeceased by a sister, Diane McCormick, last year. He is survived by his wife, Caroline McGantlin Stoney; his mother, Barbara Walling Heck of Manalapan; a brother, William of Sayreville; and a sister, Darcy Zarnowski of Freehold.
LEONARD A. YURKOVIC, 55, of Freehold Township, died Feb. 22 at home. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Linden before moving to Freehold Township 30 years ago. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Nadja Biljak Yurkovic; a daughter, Jessica Yurkovic of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his mother, Clara Yurkovic of Jackson; three brothers, Richard of Jackson, Carl of Monroe and Gary of Carteret; a sister, Christine Switana of Edison; and his friend, Sandy Hausmann of Farmingdale. Burial was at St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Jackson.
ISSIE SPECTOR, 90, of The Villages, Howell, died Feb. 25 at home. Born in Poland, he had lived in Freehold before moving to Howell 36 years ago. He was a tailor for Krull Brothers, New York City, for 30 years, retiring 25 years ago. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Boris and Anita Spector, and David and Barbara Spector, all of Freehold; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment
was at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
VIRGINIA LaBARBERA, 79, of Freehold Township, died March 4 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Lakewood and Brick before moving to Freehold Township in 2001. Mrs. LaBarbera was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. She is survived by her husband, Anthony V.; a son, Frank of Freehold Township; two daughters, Joanne Williams and Rose Marie Manfre, both of Howell; a sister, Nellie Bonadonna of Staten Island, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. JOHN R. HAMMOND SR., 78, of Old Bridge died Feb. 22 at home. Surviving are his wife, Hennie Pedalino Hammond; a son, John R. Jr. of Union; five daughters, Brenda Cantor of West Windsor, Sharon Macre of Freehold, Gail Drysdale of Helmetta, Valerie Nugent of Spotswood and Cindy Markus of East Windsor; three sisters, Grace Danchesi of North Bergen and Violet Tomasetti and Florie Monico, both of Middletown; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment
was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, South Brunswick.
JOSEPH F. JESSUP, 68, of South Amboy, formerly of Old Bridge, died Feb. 28 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Surviving are six sons, Joseph F. Jessup of Middletown, N.Y., Albert E. Jessup of Pottstown, Pa., Stephen C. and Thomas C. Jessup, both of Philadelphia, Robert A. Jessup of Melrose, Mass., and Peter M. Jessup of Old Bridge; a daughter, Doris M. Gomes of Howell; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment
was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.
MARGARET GREINER, 53, of Jackson, died Feb. 26 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Greiner was born in Long Branch and had lived in Marlboro for more than 20 years before moving to Jackson last year. Surviving are her husband, Thomas A.; three sons, William of Holmdel, Jason of Asbury Park, and Nathan of Freehold; three daughters, Melanie of Manalapan, Monica of Long Branch, and Meghan of Jackson; her mother, Eva Conomos of Manalapan; three brothers, Peter Conomos of Manalapan, Chris Conomos of Matawan, and George Conomos of California; and one granddaughter. Services were held at the Brigadier Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown.
WILLIAM D. JEWERS, 62, of East Machias, Maine, formerly of Jackson, died Feb. 26 at home. He was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Millinocket, Maine, the son of Robert E. and Mary E. Jewers. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-61. He was a life member and three-time past commander of the VFW Post No. 9521 in Lakewood. He was one of the five founders of the Amvets Post No. 2 in Jackson. He retired in 1999 as a planner and estimator for Cutler Telecommunications Station, Cutler, Maine. He was predeceased by his father; one daughter, Shari Lynn Jewers; and two brothers, John and Ronald. Surviving are his wife, Bonita L. Jewers of East Machias; his mother, Mary E. Jewers of Millinocket; four daughters, Teresa Parkinson of Alabama, Paula Carlon of Nevada, Tina Gray and Billie Jo Jewers, both of New Jersey; one son, Robert Jewers of East Machias; five sisters, Mary Ellen Daigle of Brewer, Maine, Cheryl Albert and Norma Waye, both of Millinocket, Kaye Jewers of Old Town, Maine, and Carolyn Guirlanda of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Kenneth and Michael Jewers, both of Millinocket; 10 grandchildren and more than 60 nieces and nephews. Cremation arrangements were provided by Cremation Basics, Bangor, Maine.
