Jimmye K. Freeman

Graveside services for Jimmye K. Freeman of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas. Local arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state in Irving.

Mrs. Freeman, 97, died Wednesday, July 4, at Good Samaritan Village. She was born Jan. 7, 1904, in Royce City, Texas.

Mrs. Freeman was a longtime resident of Irving and a charter member of the city's First Presbyterian Church.

She lived in Hobbs since 1983. She and her sister shared a room at Good Samaritan Village.

Mrs. Freeman is survived by one stepdaughter, Gwen Bennet; one sister, Pearl Kuhns of Hobbs; one niece; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Freeman; five sisters; and one brother.

Edwin W. Simpson

Services for Edwin Wayne Simpson of Hobbs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Bellvue Baptist Church. The Rev. Bruce Kirby will officiate. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.

Graveside services will be provided by the Lovington Odd Fellow Lodge. The veterans honor guard will be provided by the National Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today, July 6, at the funeral home.

Mr. Simpson, 79, died Wednesday, July 4, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Hico, Texas.

He married Sybil Brown on Nov. 21, 1945, in Carlsbad.

Mr. Simpson was a member of the Lovington Odd Fellow Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was also a member of Bellvue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, LaNell Himes of Hobbs; one brother, Roy Simpson of Hobbs; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Wayne Simpson; two sisters; and one brother.

Louise Stanfield

Services for Louise Stanfield of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 6, at Immanuel Baptist Church.

The Rev. Jack Lott will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery. She will lie in state from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stanfield, 96, died Wednesday, July 4, at Country Cottage Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Aug. 13, 1904, in Coffman County, Texas.

Mrs. Stanfield was a resident of Hobbs since 1948.

She was a very active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she had been a member for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Stanfield is survived by one son, Russell Stanfield of Hobbs; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T.C. Stanfield, in 1976; one son, Charles Stanfield, in 1994; one grandson; two brothers; and four sisters.

Helen Orr

Cremation has taken place for Helen Orr of Hobbs, under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home.

Mrs. Orr, 78, died Wednesday, July 4, at her home.

She was born April 12, 1923, in Drum, Okla., to Jim and Opal Thomas. She married Pete Orr on Dec. 6, 1942, in Hobbs.

She worked for attorney Glenn Houston as a legal secretary for many years.

Luella Turner

Services for Luella Turner of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. J.J. Joiner will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.

She will lie in state from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Turner, 89, died Monday, July 2, at Good Samaritan Village. She was born Oct. 4, 1911, in Caldwell, Texas.

Mrs. Turner was a member of St. John Baptist Church. She had lived in Hobbs since 1936. She was a caretaker for many families in Hobbs, having helped raise many children. She enjoyed fishing and baseball games.

Mrs. Turner is survived by one brother, Willie King of Hobbs; one daughter-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and William King; one son, Robert Whitmore; and one sister, Eula Frenchie.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.

Gloria A. Noble

Services for Gloria A. Noble of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, at St. John Baptist Church. The Rev. J.J. Joiner will officiate. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m.-noon Friday at the funeral home. A wake will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Noble, 60, died Friday, June 29, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born March 27, 1941, in Terrell, Texas. She married William C. Noble on Sept. 26, 1966, in Lovington.

Mrs. Noble attended school in Hobbs and was a member of St. John Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Debra E. Wright, Linda K. Williams and Barbara A. Noble, all of Hobbs; two sons, Jimmy D. Dean and Michael C. Noble, both of Hobbs; her mother, Savada Gipson Dean of Hobbs; three brothers, Wayburn Dean and Wayne Dean, both of Hobbs, and Billie Dean of Terrell; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends.

Mrs. Noble was preceded in death by her father, Dessie Dean; one daughter, Diane Brooks; four brothers, Samuel Dean, Dessie Dean Jr., Jesse Dean and Jerry Dean; and one sister, Barbara Ruth Dean.

Jimmye K. Freeman

Ms. Freeman, 97, died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Village in Hobbs.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1904.

Immediate survivors include a sister, Pearl Kuhns of Hobbs.

Zella M. Bowey

Services for Zella M. (Miller) Bowey of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at Chapel of Hope Funeral

Chapel. The Rev. Jimmie Templin of Beaver, Okla., will officiate assisted by the Rev. Tracy Roby.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held today from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bowey, 69, died Sunday, July 1, at Lea Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Meridian, Okla.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Eagles Women's Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, where she received the college of regents degree.

She was affiliated with First Baptist Church of Texola, Okla.

Survivors include her husband, James Bowey, of the home; two sons, Derl DeWayne Miller of Gage, Okla., and Troy Ellis Miller or Hobbs; one daughter, DeLanna Sue Miller of Beaver; a brother, Charles Matthew Hardy of Cooper, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Her parents, John and Nora Hardy; one brother; and her first husband, Derl Ray Miller, preceded her in death.

Terry D. Ivy

SEMINOLE - Graveside services for Terry Don Ivy of Lubbock will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Gaines County Cemetery South. The Rev. Lonny Poe will officiate. Services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mr. Ivy, 47, died Sunday, July 1, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Seminole. He married Cathy Cates on Jan. 7, 2000, in Muleshoe.

Mr. Ivy moved to Lubbock from Seminole three years ago. He was a Baptist. He was a self-employed contractor in construction.

Mr. Ivy is survived by his wife; two stepchildren, J. Dee Echolls and Lance Echolls, both of Lubbock; his father, Jimmy Ivy of Seminole; his stepmother, Earline Ivy of Seminole; three brothers, Marty Ivy of Harker Heights, Danny Ivy of Laredo and Paul Ivy of Seminole; two stepbrothers, Bobby Arther of Hobbs and Kenny Arther of Roswell; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ivy was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Ivy.

Zella M. Bowey

Services for Zella M. (Miller) Bowey of Hobbs will be held Thursday, July 5, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jimmie Templin of Beaver, Okla., will officiate assisted by the Rev. Tracy Roby.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held today from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
