Funeral Mass for Eloy H. Lopez of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 24, at St. Helena Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald J. Adamski will officiate.
Burial will follow services at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-noon today.
Mr. Lopez, 47, died Wednesday, March 21, at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1953, in Brownfield, Texas.
Murris L. Scheller
Services for Murris Lee Scheller of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at Chapel of Hope.
Mr. Scheller, 52, died Tuesday, March 20, in San Bernardino, Calif. He was born May 22, 1948, in Hobbs.
Mr. Scheller is survived by his father, George Scheller, of Hobbs; two sisters, Angela Kennemur of Artesia and Debra Wookring of Eunice; and his brother, Douglas Scheller of San Angelo, Texas.
Mr. Scheller was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Scheller, and his grandparents.

Mr. Lopez, 47, died Wednesday, March 21, at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1953, in Brownfield, Texas.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his son, Saloman Lopez of Dallas; his mother, Magdalena Lopez of Hobbs; four brothers, Eliseo Lopez Jr., Oscar Lopez, Arnold Lopez and Hector Lopez, all of Hobbs; and a sister, Bertha Guerin of Hobbs.
Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his father, Eliseo T. Lopez, and his grandmother, Matilda Lopez.
Juliouse Daniels
Services for Juliouse Daniels of Hobbs are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Daniels, 81, died Thursday, March 22, at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1920.
Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife, Willie Daniels of Hobbs.
Sarah Bood
Services for Sarah Bood of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. The Rev. Daniel Miller will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home Inc.
Mrs. Bood will be in state from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today and 8-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bood, 67, died Thursday, March 22, in Hobbs. She was born July 7, 1933, in Waco, Texas. She married B.J. Bood July 7, 1949, in Belton, Texas. Mrs. Bood was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and also was a Woman of the Moose.
Mrs. Bood is survived by husband B.J. Bood of the home; daughter Camille Albus of Hobbs; son Johnny Bood of Atlanta; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bood was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Marla Weber and brother Harry Gaines.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul's Youth Ministry Endowment Fund or VistaCare Family Hospice, 1515 W. Calle Sur.
James E. Barnes
Graveside services for James Edward Barnes of Hobbs will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Prairie Haven. The Rev. Leon Green will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today, March 22, and 8-10 a.m. Friday at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hobbs Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Barnes, 68, died Monday, March 19, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1932, in Illinois. Mr. Barnes retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Barnes enjoyed coin collecting, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by son Greg Barnes of Hobbs; daughter Vera Lydick of Hobbs; daughter Carla Smith of Bayonet Point, Fla.; mother Elvira Barnes of Middlebury, Ind.; sister Shirley Barnes of Elkhart, Ind.; brother Robert Barnes of Middlebury; the mother of his children, Anadina Madala of Hobbs; a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his father, Roy Barnes, and a sister-in-law.

Murris Lee Scheller

Mr. Scheller, 52, died Tuesday, March 20, in San Bernardino, Calif. He was born May 22, 1948, in Hobbs.
Scheller is survived by his father, George Scheller of Hobbs.
James Barnes
Services for James Barnes of Hobbs are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, Hobbs.
Mr. Barnes, 68, died Monday, March 19. He was born April 3, 1932.
Mr. Barnes is survived by daughter Vera Lydick of Hobbs.
Cleveland Whitfield
LYNWOOD, Calif. - Services for former Hobbs resident Cleveland Whitfield of Los Angeles were held Saturday, March 3, at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Lynwood.
The Rev. John O. Hopkins officiated. Burial followed in Rose Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Whitfield, 88, died Feb. 25 in Los Angeles. He was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Branchfield, Texas. He married Elwyser Black in June 1931.
He attended school in Branchfield. While living there he united with the Little River Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon in 1933. He also sang in the choir. In 1943, he became a Mason.
Mr. Whitfield later moved to Lamesa, Texas, where he united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church and served there as a deacon and president of the senior choir. He soon moved his membership to Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon and choir president until he moved to Hobbs, where he joined the Little Zion Baptist Church and served there as chairman of the deacon board and president of the senior choir until ill health forced him to quit in November 2000.
Mr. Whitfield moved to Los Angeles in January 2001.
Survivors include his wife of the home; six children, Cleveland Whitfield Jr., Rosie Nail Davis, Rebecca Gibson and Estella Mathis, all of California; C.L. Whitfield and Gladys Hunter, both of Texas; two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; an adopted son, Herbert; an adopted daughter, Annie Collins; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His parents, Sam and Estella Whitfield, preceded him in death.
Clyde A. Tate
Funeral services for Clyde A. Tate of Levelland, Texas, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at First Baptist Church, Levelland. Dr. Steve Vernon, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Levelland Cemetery.
Mr. Tate, 79, died Saturday, March 17, in Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. He was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Oilton, Texas. He married Beatrice Venita Richardson on July 25, 1942, in Frederick, Okla. They lived in Hobbs from 1963 until 1994, when they moved to Levelland. Mr. Tate retired from Conoco Oil as gasoline plant superintendent.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with membership in Lodge #63 A.F. & A.M., Hobbs.
Mr. Tate is survived by three daughters, Sharon Willis and Judy Welch, both of Austin, and Pam Montgomery of Levelland; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruth Watkins and husband Nathan, and Katie Hickman and husband Glen, all of Fresno, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife Beatrice in March 1998 and daughter Brenda Overbeck in 1976.
Helen M. Wassom
PLAINVIEW - Services for Helen M. Wassom of Plainview, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Hale Center Church of Christ. Matt Swanson will officiate. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, Okla. Services are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home, Plainview.
Mrs. Wassom, 93, died Sunday, March 18, at her residence in Plainview. She was born Feb. 9, 1908, in Wagoner, Okla. She was the first baby born in Wagoner, where she was raised and attended school. Mrs. Wassom worked in the Bovina school cafeterias for several years. She moved to Plainview in 1985.
She is survived by daughter Mary Davis and husband William of Henrietta, Texas; daughter Loretta Jane Haney of Plainview; daughter Christine Fay Johnston of Hobbs; son Allan Wassom and wife Barbara of Okmulgee, Okla.; son Doyle Wassom and wife Lanell of Dimmitt, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 10 great great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wassom was preceded in death by son George Wassom and six brothers and three sisters.
Placida R. Martinez
EUNICE - Funeral mass for Placida Rodriguez Martinez of Eunice was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski officiated. Interment followed at Carlsbad Cemetery.
A vigil was held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at San Jose Catholic Church. Services were under the direction of West Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martinez, 96, died Wednesday, March 14, at the Hobbs Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 11, 1904, in Jajitas, Texas. Mrs. Martinez was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed doing embroidery, cooking sweet bread, gardening and making quilts (she has made one for every family member). Mrs. Martinez was a member of San Jose Catholic Church while she lived in Carlsbad.
She and her husband moved to Eunice in 1967 to be near their son. In Eunice she was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Ricardo Martinez of Eunice; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo Zavala Martinez, in 1983 after 58 years of marriage.
Frank R. Byars
Services for Frank R. Byars of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 19, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
The Rev. Dean Mathis will officiate. Burial will be held in Edmond, Okla., at a later date.
Mr. Byars, 70, died Saturday, March 17, at St. Luke Hospital in Houston. He was born April 5, 1930, in Mississippi. He married Melba Collins on Oct. 29, 1954, in Hobbs.
He worked for Enron for 40 years. He was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Byars was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Pamela Simpkins of Paducah, Texas, Rhonda Reynolds of Edmond, Cynthia Anderson of Tulsa and Shelia Bell of Dallas; two sisters, Patsy Brumett of Denver and Shirley Eidson of Alto; and four grandchildren.
Mildred D. Power
LOVINGTON - Graveside services and burial for Mildred D. Power of Lovington will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 19, at the Lovington Cemetery under the direction of Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
The Rev. Leon Green will officiate.
Mrs. Power, 78, died Friday, March 16 at her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Artesia. She married Richard Power on Sept. 6, 1942, in Lovington.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and had worked many years as a secretary at Jefferson School.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Robin Byrd of Lovington and Michelle Perez of Kermit, Texas; and three grandchildren.
A son, Tony Richards Power; two sisters, Gail Sumruld and Betty Ann Forest; a grandson, Nathan Byrd; and her parents preceded her in death.
