Merldene R. Barker
Services for Merldene R. Barker of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Memorial Chapel. Eli Bordon will officiate. Burial will take place at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Calvary Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barker, 72, died Tuesday, March 6, at her home.
She was born on April 12, 1928, in Romulus, Okla. She was affiliated with Eastside Church of Christ in Duncan, Okla., but attended Jefferson Street Church of Christ in Hobbs. She married Paul Barker on Jan. 11, 1947. Mrs. Barker lived in Hobbs for 32 years, moving here from Duncan. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband of the home; a son, Jeff Barker of Hobbs; two daughters, Paula Clark of Lubbock and Barbara Brown of Midland; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Rosa Dunn; a brother, Max Dunn; and a sister, Mildred Onair.
Scott L. Roberts
GLADEWATER, Texas - Funeral services for Scott Lee Roberts of Gladewater will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Croley Funeral Home. Bishop Robert "Bob" Johnston will officiate. Burial will take place in Gladewater Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home.
Mr. Roberts, 29, died Wednesday, March 7. He was born on Dec. 18, 1971, in Hobbs.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his parents, James and Fay Roberts of Gladewater; a sister, Laina King of Gladewater; paternal grandmother Olga Roberts of Hobbs; maternal grandmother, Jean Spencer of Logan, Utah; four nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Ann Roberts.
T.O. Oldham
SEMINOLE, Texas - Graveside services for T.O. Oldham of Lamesa will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Gaines County Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. E.R. Holder will officiate. Burial will be under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mr. Oldham will lie in state at Brannon Funeral Home in Lamesa Thursday and at Boyer Funeral Home in Seminole on Saturday until service time.
Mr. Oldham, 77, died Wednesday, March 7, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born on Nov. 27, 1923, in Throckmorton County. He married Helen Joyce Chapman Seitern on March 15, 1997, in Lamesa. He moved to Lamesa in 1997 from Seminole.
Mr. Oldham worked in the oilfields. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Oldham is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Leslie Oldham of Abilene; a daughter, Martha Ann Whitehead of Plano; a stepson, Darrell Seitern of Carlsbad; two stepdaughters, Janette Turner of Lamesa and Dolores Walker of Midland; two sisters, Kathleen Burrows of Fort Worth and Avis Boyd of Wichita Falls; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loudell, in 1994, and a son, Harry, in 1995.
Roy E. Norman
Services for Roy E. Norman of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Shawn Drake will officiate. Burial will take place at Lovington Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held today from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Norman, 88, died Wednesday, March 7, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Orchard City, Texas.
Mr. Norman married Viola Gordon in 1942 in Orchard City. She preceded him in death April 9, 1983.
Mr. Norman was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in Lovington. He served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Lovington before moving to Hobbs in 1983. He was affiliated with Bel Aire Baptist Church.
Mr. Norman is survived by four sons, Herbert Norman of Hobbs, Wallace Norman of Albuquerque, Troy Norman of Hobbs and Bobby Norman of Malakoff, Texas; four daughters, Telita Fitzgerald of Silver City, Linda Reed of Hubbardsville, N.Y., Judy Glasscock of University City, Texas, and Karen Melton of Lovington; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister.
He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Merldene Barker

Lois D. Burns
Memorial services for Lois Davis Burns of Hobbs will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. J. Gorton Smith will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burns, 88, died Monday, March 5, at Good Samaritan Village. She was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Pecos, Texas. She was married to Crittenden E. Burns who preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Burns and her husband were owners of Paden Drug Store in Carrizozo for 12 years. She moved to Hobbs in the mid-1970s. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Burns is survived by a son, Dennis Burns of Essex Fells, N.J.; two daughters, Lynell B. Caton of Hobbs, and Lois Jerilyn Thornton of Los Alamos; a brother, Bryce Davis of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Fay Miller of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis, Doyle and Edgel Davis, and a sister, Velma Crutcher.

Lance M. Eaker
ROSWELL - Memorial services for Lance Michael Eaker of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the House of Worship Church of God, 901 S. 20th St. in Artesia. The Rev. Art Cantrel will officiate.
Mr. Eaker, 20, was born in Artesia on June 16, 1980, to James Eaker Jr. and Reta Briscoe. He had lived in Hobbs for the past 18 years.
Eaker is survived by his parents; a brother, Roman Eaker of Roswell; four sisters, Shelly Briscoe, Natasha and Kacie Eaker of Roswell and Summer Ice of Gordonville, Texas; grandparents John and Jo Briscoe of Artesia and James and Oleta Eaker of Roswell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Brandon Eaker.
Cremation was under the direction of Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory.
Billye James
Services are pending for Billye James of Hobbs at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. James, 56, died Wednesday, March 7, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 25, 1944, in El Paso, Texas.
Mr. James is survived by a son, Kelly James of Hobbs, and a daughter, Merry James of Hobbs.
George W. McDonald

Mary F. Melson
BOWIE, Texas - Graveside services for Mary F. Melson of Vashti, Texas, will be held at 2:30 p.m. CST on Friday, March 9, at Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg, Texas. The Rev. Dave Maher will officiate.
Mrs. Melson, 81, died Tuesday, March 6, at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1920, in Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Melson was a resident of Hobbs for 50 years before moving to Vashti three years ago. She was of the Baptist faith. She worked as a supervisor at GTE for 40 years in Hobbs.
She collected antiques and loved bird watching. Mrs. Melson worked as a volunteer with the H&R Block to complete tax returns for senior citizens in Hobbs. From 1943-1945 during WWII she worked at Kaizer Shipyard No. 3 as a welder at Richland, Calif., and later as a welder at Evansville, Ind., in the shipyard. She married Walter M. Melson on Dec. 28, 1951.
Mrs. Melson is survived by a son, Bill Bartlett Jr. of Vashti; a daughter, Sue MacFarland of Desoto, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986.
Roy Norman
Services are pending for Roy Norman of Hobbs at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Norman, 88, died Wednesday, March 7, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 7, 1912.
Mr. Norman is survived by his son, Troy Norman of Hobbs.
Ann J. Sterling
Services were held Wednesday, March 7, for Ann J. Sterling of Hobbs, under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home. Burial took place at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Mrs. Sterling, 89, died Tuesday, March 5, in Hobbs. She was born July 26, 1911, in Havensville, Kan. Mrs. Sterling moved to Hobbs in 1976. She enjoyed her family and cooking.
Mrs. Sterling is survived by three sons, E.D. Sterling of Hobbs, Thomas D. Sterling of Fairfield, Calif., and Gary Dean Sterling of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrel Eugene Sterling; five brothers, Wilford, Patrick, Dave, Lawrence and Tom Cline; and two sisters, Mary Cline and Margaret Carder.

Connie Pitts
Graveside services for Connie Pitts of Hobbs will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. The Rev. Leon Green will officiate.

She will lie in state today from 1-8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Ms. Pitts, 26, died Saturday, March 3, at her home. She was born on July 23, 1974, in Hobbs.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and Dianne Pitts of Hobbs; a brother, Rodney Pitts of Hobbs; a sister, Kim Allred of Hobbs; her maternal grandparents, Neal and Gletus Wilson of Hobbs; her paternal grandparents, Rudolph and Maxine Pitts of Panama City, Fla.; her fiancé, James Crume of Hobbs; three nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Alvin Bland, and her paternal grandmother, Polly Pitts.
Hugh Tucker

Jack Botkin
A memorial service for Jack Botkin of Hobbs will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Chapel of Hope funeral home.
Mr. Botkin, 57, died Saturday, March 3, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 30, 1943, in Monahans, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Millie, and his mother Almeta, both of Hobbs; his daughters, Kathy Taylor of Denver; Bobbie Hukins of Canyon; Robin Getman of Tomball; Vicki Mueller of Foley, Mich.; and his son Jackie Botkin of Moline, Ill.
Don L. Woods
A private graveside service was held recently for Don L. Woods of Mayhill.
Mr. Woods, 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Alamogordo. He was born in Briscoe County on March 29, 1933.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Owens Woods, of the home; a son, Matthew Woods of Chico, Calif.; two daughters, Judy Beth Woods of Amarillo, and Lisa Sisneros of El Paso; a sister, Clem Rand of Cloudcroft; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nephews and nieces.
