Beryl J. Carpenter

Mrs. Carpenter, 72, was born on July 13, 1928, in Yorkshire, England. She married Roy L. Carpenter Sr., who preceded her in death in 1960.
Mrs. Carpenter was a former member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by a son, Roy L. Carpenter Jr. of Hobbs; a daughters, Marsha G. Rogers of Wylie, Texas; two sisters, Audry Robinson and Christine Hawley, both of Sheffield, England; and one grandson.
Mildred Leverett
Services for Mildred "Skeet" Leverett of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Jefferson Street Church of Christ. Ministers Virgil Webb and Eli Borden will officiate. Burial will take place at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Leverett will lie in state today from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8-9 a.m. The family will greet friends at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m.
Mrs. Leverett, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 28. She was born July 26, 1925, in Lea County. She married Clyde Leverett on May 29, 1948.
She was an active member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ, having served as fourth-grade Bible class teacher for 22 years. She was a member of the Lea County Democratic Women and the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. She was a life member Epsilon Sigma Alpha, International, a charter member of Sigma Alpha and a member of Alpha Sigma.
She served as chairperson for Precinct 34 and on the Lea County Elections Board. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and she was a Girl Scout leader. Mrs. Leverett was co-chairman of Prairieview School Reunion Committee and an ardent fan of the Hobbs Eagles basketball team and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Mrs. Leverett is survived by her husband of the home; a son, Bernard Leverett of Sublette, Kan.; a daughter, Sarah Reid of Hobbs; a brother, Robert H. Sweatt of Burton, Texas; two sisters, Clara Wilcox of Springfield, Miss., and Reba Grandrud of Phoenix; two grandchildren; an aunt; and 20 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Mary Sweatt; a brother, Willie Cecil Sweatt; and a sister, Ruby Faye Fort.

Nannie Carr
Funeral services for Nannie "Jerry" Carr of Hobbs will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. LaVoid Ford officiating.
Burial, under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home, will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Mrs. Carr, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Country Cottage in Hobbs.
She was born on March 23, 1917, in Wills Point, Texas, and married Buddy Carr on Aug. 7, 1938, in Seminole.
Mrs. Carr worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 42 years as a mail carrier before she retired. She also was a member of the Rebekah's.
She is survived by two sons, George and Willie Carr of Hobbs; one sister, Frances Beard of Hobbs; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carr was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; two brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson, Dakota Carr, who died Feb. 4.
Melvin W. Glenn
ALAMOGORDO - Services for Melvin Wayne Glenn of Alamogordo, brother of Carolyn Taylor of Hobbs, Dolores Davis of Monument and Corky Glenn of Tatum, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Roswell.
The Rev. Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery.
Mr. Glenn, 67, died Monday, Feb. 26, in Las Cruces. He was born Sept. 20, 1933, in Liberal, Kan.
He grew up on a ranch with his family, 35 miles east of Roswell. He was active in 4-H and junior rodeo.
Mr. Glenn owned and operated Action Realty and ranched around Roswell for several years. He was a Baptist.
In 1975, he was named Father of the Year by the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association. He was past president of Ruidoso Sertoma Club.
Other survivors include a son, Cliff Glenn of Roswell; a daughter, Lora Frost of Pell City, Ala.; two more brothers, Don Glenn of Fort Collins, Colo., and Rex Glenn of Roswell; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Irene Whitehead.
Burl Morrow
EUNICE - Services for Burl Morrow of Eunice will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Elio Barrios, VistaCare Family Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Brunson Memorial Cemetery in Eunice under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home.
Mr. Morrow, 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Eunice. He was born April 24, 1930, in Mitchell County, Texas. He was married to Alice Morrow, who preceded him in death.
He was a Methodist.
He entered the United States Navy on March 8, 1956, as an E-1 seaman apprentice. He served 20 years, retiring on Sept. 30, 1975, as an E-8 senior chief petty officer. During his time in the service, he was stationed in many places here and abroad.
Mr. Morrow returned from Pacific Missile Range facilities in Barking Sands, Kaual, Hawaii. He served on several aircraft carriers including the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk and the U.S.S. Enterprise. He earned and was awarded numerous medals and citations, which included five good-conduct awards, presidential and meritorious unit awards.
He also served in 14 separate battle campaigns from 1963 to 1970 and was awarded the South Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for service with their government.
Upon retiring from the Navy, he went to work in Lea County for the McNeill Ranches. He later worked in the oilfield retiring again in April of 1992.
Mr. Morrow was a member of the America Legion Post 45. He and his wife were charter members in the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and Heritage Center, the National Rifle Association and the Lea County Junior Rodeo Association.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Clark of Colorado City, Texas, William G. Morrow of Utah and Wendell S. Morrow of Hobbs; five daughters, Roxana Smith of Denver City, Texas, Gloria Gladden and Jo Morrow, both of Eunice, Michelle Willhoite of Conroe, Texas, and Jeri Faye Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Esta Lee Lamb of Junction, Texas, and Wanda Jean Wood of Euless, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Two sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Family Hospice of Hobbs.
Evelyn V. Stansberry
Graveside service for Evelyn V. Stansberry of Hobbs are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Norman, Okla.
Local arrangements were handled by Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stansberry, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 27, at Hobbs Healthcare Center.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1909, in Rotan, Texas, and later married Royce Stansberry.
He preceded her in death in July 1976.
Mrs. Stansberry is survived by three sons, Leonard Stansberry of Hobbs, Douglas Stansberry of Moore, Okla., and Robert Stansberry of Langly, Okla.; one sister, Aleen Johnson of Coleman, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stansberry was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Jossie Swor; one son, Winston Stansberry; three brothers; and one sister.
William R. Force
LOVINGTON - Cremation has taken place for William Robert Force of Lovington. Cremation was under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home.
Mr. Force, 64, died Tuesday, June 12, at his home. He was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Newark, N.J., to Harry and Wanda Force. He was a cowboy for most of his life. He was married to Jackie McKenney.
Mr. Force is survived by his wife of the home.
Ruben Saiz
CLOVIS - Services for Ruben Saiz of Pecos will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community under the direction of Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. The Rev. Sotero Sena will officiate.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories.
Mr. Saiz, 54, died Saturday, June 9, at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe. He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Colonias.
He married Virginia Barela on Feb. 19, 1966, in Clovis. Mr. Saiz served in the U.S. Navy and the Army National Guard. He graduated from the Police Academy in Santa Fe in 1973 and had a long career in law enforcement in many places, including Clovis, Portales, Pecos and Hobbs.
Mr. Saiz received several commendations during his career as a deputy sheriff. He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife, of Hobbs; his mother, Prudence Saiz of Clovis; a son, Ruben Saiz Jr. of Hobbs; four daughters, Mary Prudence Saiz of Lake Charles, La., Desiree Saiz of Pecos; Patricia Cowger and Kathryn Saiz, both of Hobbs; four brothers, Robert Saiz, Phillip Saiz, Sailo Saiz and Paul Saiz, all of Clovis; five sisters, Virginia Garcia of Neravisa; Mary Ann Prior of Clovis, Irene Wilde of Beaverton, Ore., Sandra Larsen of Ludington, Mich., Judy Menold of Torrance, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
His father, Felipe Saiz, preceded him in death in 1980.
Sally Fortner
Services for Sally Fortner of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello, Ark. The Rev. Royce Lowe will officiate.
Burial will follow at Mount Tabor Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Stepheson-Dearman Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fortner, 90, died Monday, June 11, at Hobbs Healthcare Center. She was born June 2, 1911, in Drew County, Ark.
She married Ted Fortner, who preceded her in death in 1967.
She was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Christene Cash of Cabot, Ark.; three sisters, Gladys Locke of Pine Bluff, Ark., Lucille Wolfe of McGehee, Ark., and Lois Nave of Monticello, Ark.; two brothers, Jack Peacock of Andrews, and Melvin Peacock of McGehee; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fortner was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Fortner; two sisters; and four brothers.
Joe E. Sims
EUNICE - Services for Joe E. Sims of Eunice will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at First Baptist Church of Eunice. The Rev. Kevin Warner of First Baptist will officiate.
Burial will follow at Brunson Memorial Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Sims, 81, died Sunday, June 10, at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Carlsbad. He married Dorothy Pearce on March 13, 1943.
A 1939 graduate of Eunice High School, he worked in the potash mines until 1942, when he enlisted in the service. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne during World War II from 1942-45. While stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., he met his future wife, Dorothy, who was a telephone operator at the base.
During his tour of duty, he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Mr. Sims also participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
During his time of military service as a paratrooper, he received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Unit Badge and two Purple Hearts.
In 1946, right after the war, Mr. Sims came back to Eunice and went to work for Wilson Oil Co., retiring after 25 years. He then worked for the Tex-New Mexico Pipeline for four years and also worked for Joe Sims & Company for 13 years and was a contract mail carrier from Eunice to Monument for eight years. He was also a rancher during all this time.
Mr. Sims is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Joe Pelham "Sandy" Sims of Eunice; one brother, Claude Sims of Carlsbad; one sister, Mary Able of Lordsburg; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Franklin "Buck" Sims, James Dewey Sims and Hershel Sims; one sister, Nora Belle Leverington; and one granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be sent to VistaCare Family Hospice and the American Diabetes Association.
Curtis R. Pitkin
ANDREWS, Texas - Services for Curtis R. Pitkin of Andrews will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews. The Rev. Bob Zap will officiate.
Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
Mr. Pitkin, 71, died Monday, June 11, at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born June 3, 1930, in Clear Lake, Iowa. He married LuElla Rosendahl on Sept. 16, 1950, in Garner, Iowa.
Mr. Pitkin and his wife moved from Iowa to Andrews in 1957. He worked as a master mechanic for Northern Gas, now Enron Gas.
Mr. Pitkin is survived by his wife; three sons, Mike Pitkin and Greg Pitkin, both of Andrews, and Alan Pitkin of Midland; two daughters, Nancy Hotchkin of Odessa and Joan Thompson of Andrews; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pitkin was preceded in death by three brothers, Norvell, Virgil and Franklin Pitkin; and one sister, Goldie Bitker.
