Janice M. Davenport
SWEETWATER, Texas - Services for Janice M. Davenport of Sweetwater will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 21, at First Christian Church. The Rev. Thomas Minton will officiate. Services are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Davenport, 63, died Friday, May 18, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Oklahoma City. She married H.E. "Toby" Davenport on May 15, 1969, in Plains, Texas.
Mrs. Davenport worked for Sears for many years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Mrs. Davenport is survived by her husband of Sweetwater; two sons, Glenn F. Ellison of Lubbock and Merrin E. Davenport of Hobbs; three daughters, Debra L. Jones of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Brenda K. Naegele and Paula A. Davenport, both of Hobbs; two sisters, Barbara Channel of North Charleston, S.C., and Zada Schaffer of Houston; four grandsons; and six granddaughters.
Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her father, Joe B. Cook; her mother, Lillian M. Cook; her first husband, Charles Herbert Ellison; a daughter, Tamara Marie Jackson; a son-in-law, Douglas "Bear" Jackson; and a grandson, Matthew Don Jackson.
Barbara A. Dawkins
Services for Barbara Ann Dawkins of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 21, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews, Texas. The Rev. Chris Barnett of American Baptist Church in Hobbs will officiate.
Burial will follow at Andrews North Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dawkins, 59, died Friday, May 18, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Kermit, Texas. She married Bill Dawkins on Aug. 17, 1960, in Abilene, Texas.
In 1974, Mrs. Dawkins moved from Andrews to Hobbs. She loved doll collecting and gardening. She was a member of the American Baptist Church in Hobbs.
Mrs. Dawkins is survived by her husband of Hobbs; one daughter, Ramona Griffith of Abilene; two sons, Charles Dawkins and Steven Dawkins, both of Hobbs; one sister, Lynda Persilver of Hobbs; one brother, John Kaup of Andrews; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Nell R. Harrison
Services for Nell Ruth Harrison of Eunice and Kingsland, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Hobbs. The Rev. Gorton Smith will officiate.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 21, at Beggs Cemetery in Beggs, Okla.
Mrs. Harrison, 81, died Thursday, May 17, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews, Texas. She was born July 12, 1919, in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Mrs. Harrison was the personnel director at Lea Regional Medical Center, retiring in 1985. She was a lifetime Eastern Star member and belonged to Hobbs Business and Professional Women.
Mrs. Harrison attended Oklahoma State University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, the Yucca Garden Club and Masonic Widows.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by two daughters, Jan Nelson of Kingsland and Eunice; and Sharon January of Cape Cod, Mass.; one grandson; one niece; and numerous family and friends.
Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Leva Lewis; two sisters; and two brothers.
K'Tera D. Hodge
Graveside services for K'Tera Denise Hodge of Hobbs were held Friday at Babyland in Prairie Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Russell Hill officiated.
Services were under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
The infant was born and died Thursday, May 17, at Lea Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents, Marcus and Desheenia Hodge of Hobbs; two brothers, Marcus and Jordan Hodge of Hobbs; maternal grandparents, Sheila and Robert Hall of Hobbs; paternal grandparents, Jean and Ernest Hodge of Hobbs; step-grandfather, Keith Ward of Hobbs; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Nell Harrison
EUNICE - Services for Nell Harrison of Eunice are pending with Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harrison, 85, died Thursday, May 17, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews, Texas.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by one daughter, Jan Nelson of Eunice.

Services for Lula June Rodgers of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Elio Barrios of VistaCare Family Hospice will officiate.
Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. today at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rodgers, 66, died Wednesday, May 16, at Lea Regional Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1934, in Cordova Bend, Texas. She married Billie Chester Rodgers on Jan. 27, 1951, in Artesia.
Mrs. Rodgers moved from Artesia to Hobbs and has lived here for 50 years. She worked at Furr's Cafeteria as a waitress, retiring in 1997. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Rodgers is survived by one son, Billy Rodgers of Hobbs; three daughters, Carol Driskell of Enid, Okla., JoJo Rodgers of Dallas and Pat Derby of Hobbs; three brothers, Mutt Cogdill, Leroy Cogdill and Bobby Cogdill, all of Cleburne, Texas; one sister, Jimmie Miller of Cleburne; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband.
Kay Randall
Services for Kay Randall of Hobbs will take place at a later date under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Ms. Randall, 57, died Wednesday, May 16, in Hobbs. She was born Sept. 11, 1943, in Texas.
Ms. Randall was a registered nurse at Lea Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by one son, Mandrell Marshall of Albuquerque, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Ms. Randall was preceded in death by her parents, Chalmer and Emma Stell.
K'Tera D. Hodge
Services for K'Tera Denise Hodge of Hobbs are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
The infant was born and died Thursday, May 17, at Lea Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents, Marcus Hodge and Desheenice Sanders.
Jo Davenport
Graveside services for Jo Davenport of Hobbs will be held at 3 p.m. today at Prairie Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Kirby will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davenport, 91, died Wednesday, May 16, at Country Cottage. She was born March 15, 1909, in Maverick, Texas. Her husband, W.D. Davenport, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Davenport worked in dress shops in Ballenger, Texas, for several years before moving to Hobbs in 1951. She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband. She raised several nieces and nephews and her sons. She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked at Leata's Dress Shop.
Mrs. Davenport is survived by two sons, Jim Davenport of Midland and Curtis Davenport of Brownwood, Texas; one brother, Horace Roberson of Hobbs; three sisters, Dee Reeves of Houston, Irma Carter of Carlsbad and Alice Lockhart of Fredericksburg, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-granchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Keith A. Stewart
ALTON, Ill. - Services for Keith Alan Stewart of Hobbs will be held in Alton, Ill. The Rev. Anthony Jones will officiate. He will be assisted by campus pastor Shalom Church.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Calvary Memorial Funeral Home in Hobbs.
Mr. Stewart, 39, died Thursday, May 10, in Hobbs. He was born June 23, 1961, in Alton.
Mr. Stewart graduated in 1979 from Alton High School. After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge. He confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his mother, Anna Grace Stewart of Alton; three sons, Christopher Stewart and Patric Reed of Alton, and Marcus Johnson of Cape Girardo, Mo.; two brothers, Elmer Stewart Jr. of Alton and Rodney Stewart of Hobbs; two sisters, Ketra Collins of St. Louis and Lisa Stewart of Alton; special friend Dianna McGlenndon of St. Louis; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Billie C. Saxon
Services for Billie C. Saxon of Clifton, Texas, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Hobbs. The Rev. Jeremy McCombs will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Saxon, 78, died Wednesday, May 16, in Clifton. She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Bristow, Okla. She was married to Vinitus L. Saxon until his death in 1976, and to Orvis Oneal from 1982 until his death in 1995.
Mrs. Saxon and her husband owned a welding shop in Waco and she was an accomplished welder. They also traveled the country working on the pipeline.
Mrs. Saxon enjoyed reading and listening to her son read Louis Lamour novels. She was a Seventh-day Adventist.
Mrs. Saxon is survived by one son, George Saxon of Clifton; one sister, Norma Wright of Hobbs; one brother, Ralph Morand of Helena, Mont.; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
Gilbert Murrish
TATUM - Services for Gilbert "Gil" Murrish of Tatum will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, at First Baptist Church in Tatum. The Rev. Wayne Brazil will officiate.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home of Lovington.
Mr. Murrish, 72, died Tuesday, May 15, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1928, to Clifford and Clara Murrish in Kearney, Neb. He married Shirley Lou Pool on Nov. 9, 1947, in Gibbon, Neb.
Mr. Murrish was a resident of Tatum since 1968. He worked as an operator for Gulf for many years before retiring. He loved to fish and spend time with his loving family.
Mr. Murrish is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Jan Bennett of Beaver, Okla., and Dianna Page of Andrews, Texas; two sons, Buck Murrish and Mick Murrish, both of Hobbs; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Murrish was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Carlos Melendez
MARFA, Texas - Services for Carlos Melendez of Laredo will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Rick Ruiz will officiate. Services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Melendez, 49, died Friday, May 11, at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1951, in Marfa. He was a funeral director in charge at Hillside Funeral Home in Laredo this last year until shortly before his death.
Mr. Melendez was a graduate of Sul Ross State University, holding a BBS degree, and also a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He was an Army Vietnam veteran and a jet engine mechanic in the Navy.
Mr. Melendez is survived by his son, Noe Melendez of Hobbs; two brothers, Rafael Melendez of Marfa and Manuel Melendez of Odessa; two sisters, Corine Melendez of Marfa and Rose Mary Tovar of Hobbs; and one grandson.
Mr. Melendez was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Zeferina Melendez; one brother, Robert; and one sister, Mary Esther Fitzewilliam.
