Lucille Shirley

Funeral services for Lucille Shirley, 86, of Hobbs, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with Jake Chaney officiating.

Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 until 8 p.m. today and from 8 p.m. until service time on Monday.

Mrs. Shirley died on Thursday, Aug. 20, at Hobbs Health Care Center.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1914, in Clarksville, Texas, and married Ebb Shirley on April 28, 1934, in Gladewater, Texas.

Mrs. Shirley was a member of the Eastern Star as well as First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Shirley is survived by her husband, of the home; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one son, Joe Shirley; and one daughter, Patsy Colin.

Pedro G. Muņoz
FORT STOCKTON, Texas -- Funeral Mass for Pedro Gutierrez Muņoz, father of Manuel Muņoz, Pete Muņoz, Noe Muņoz, Joel Muņoz, Bobby Muņoz, Janet Garza and Sonia Muņoz, all of Hobbs, was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton.
Mr. Muņoz, 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, in Galveston, Texas. He was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Fort Stockton.
He was a Catholic.
Other survivors include his wife, Josie Muņoz, of the home; four more sons, Martin Ray Gonzales of Perryton, Gabriel Gonzales of San Francisco, Calif., Benji Gonzales and Peter Muņoz, both of Fort Stockton; three more daughters, Candie Muņoz, Angela Montaņez and Linda Stella Garcia, all of El Paso; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Bertha Arsiaga; and two brothers, Celedonio Muņoz and Cecilo Muņoz, preceded him in death.

Teodula Carrasco Rodriguez
Services for Teodula Carrasco Rodriguez of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. today, at St. Helena Catholic Church. She will lie in state today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Rev. Don Adamski of the OFM Conv., will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rodriguez, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 10, in Hobbs. She was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Alpine, Texas. She married Nestor Rodriguez in 1926 in Ojinaga, Mexico. He preceded her in death in 1955.
She was a resident of Good Samaritan Village. She moved to Hobbs in 1990 from Ojinaga. She was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and Las Quincenieras prayer group.
Survivors include two daughters, Agustina Peņa of Hobbs and Delia Hernandez of Juarez; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Alicia Rubio; a brother, Lupe Bustamente; and a sister, Luisa Castillo, also preceded her in death.

Lucille Shirley

Services are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home for Lucille Shirley of Hobbs.
Mrs. Shirley, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Hobbs Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 15, 1914, in Clarksville, Texas.
Survivors include her husband of the home, Ebb Shirley.

Patricia D. Riley
EUNICE -- Services for Patricia Diane Riley of Eunice will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, at First United Methodist Church in Eunice.
The Rev. Tommy Jared will officiate. Cremation has taken place.
Mrs. Riley, 42, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Lea Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 29, 1957, in Eads, Colo. She married Dennis Riley on Oct. 14, 1978, in Petersburg, Texas.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eunice. She had lived in Eunice since 1978. She worked as a para-professional with the Hobbs Public Schools.
Survivors include her husband Dennis Riley of the home; a son, Brody Riley of Eunice; two daughters, Cassie Riley and Tara Riley, both of Eunice; her stepmother, Nelda V. Lee of Anson, Texas; six brothers, Roy Glenn Lee and Richard Ray Chambers, both of Abilene, Texas, Jimmy Don Blue of Anson, Michael Chambers of Houston, Texas, Larry Lee and Gary Lee, both of Big Spring, Texas; and a sister, Rebecca Long of Dallas, Texas.
Her father, Marshall Lee, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Eunice.

Harriet O. Boyd
EUNICE -- Graveside services and burial for Harriet Ora Boyd of the Boyd homesteaders of Eunice , who resided in Eugene, Ore., will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Brunson Memorial Cemetery in Eunice.
Mrs. Boyd, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at her home in Eugene. She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Flowing Wells, Ariz.
She had worked as a telephone operator.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Alex Boyd of Roseburg, Ore.; three daughters, Sarah Edgell of Albuquerque, Glenda Fuller of Snowflake, Ariz., and Maxine Creeds of Dugway, Utah; two brothers, Lonnie Dinwiddie of Ogden, Utah, and Robert Dinwiddie of Santa Fe; and seven grandchildren.

Harold Hopkins
ANCHORAGE, Alaska --
Services for Harold "Hal" Hopkins of Anchorage, father of John Hopkins of Hobbs, will be held noon today at Anchorage Baptist Temple.
Burial will follow in Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. Hopkins, 83, died on July 30, at Elmendorf AFB Hospital in Anchorage. He was born in November 1916, in Tacoma, Wash.
He retired after 26 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He came to Alaska in 1968 to start the first JROTC program at West Anchorage High School where he taught for 13 years before his second retirement.
Mr. Hopkins was a member of the Anchorage Baptist Temple, Order of Daedalions, Phi Delta Kappa, Talkeetna Post VFW No. 3836, and the Western Alaska Council Boy Scouts of America. He was a registered Scouter for 73 years.
He earned his BA degree in English/Music from Seattle Pacific College where he sang baritone in the SPC Clarion Quartet. He taught music in Washington State before entering the Army Air Corps as a second Lieutenant in 1943. While in the Air Force he earned an M.A. degree in Administration from Stanford University.
Other survivors include his wife wife, Alys; a daughter, Michele Bryan of Charleston, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Richard McLemore
Services for Richard McLemore of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, at El Bethel Church of God In Christ.
The Rev. W.G. Patton will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. McLemore, 77, died Monday, Aug. 7, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Carthage, Texas. He married Roberta Cooks in 1942 in Carthage. She preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Lipscomb of Hobbs, and a brother, Fletcher McLemore Jr., of Dallas, Texas.
His parents, Fletcher and Almira McLemore; five brothers; and four sisters also preceded him in death.

Harriet O. Boyd
Services are pending with Calvary Funeral Home for former Hobbsan Harriet Ora Boyd of Eugene, Ore.
Mrs. Boyd, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at her home in Eugene. She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Flowing Wells, Ariz.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Boyd, of the home; a son, Alex Boyd of Oregon; three daughters, Sarah Estelle Edgell of Albuquerque, Glenda Fuller of Arizona and Maxine Creeds of Utah; and seven grandchildren.

Richard McLemore
Services are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home for Richard McLemore of Hobbs.
Mr. McLemore, 77, died Monday, Aug. 7, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Carthage, Texas.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Lipscomb of Hobbs.

Angela Lopez
Services for Angela Lopez of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, at St. Helena Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Prairie Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. A prayer service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Lopez, 22, died Monday, Aug. 7, at her home. She was born Sept. 27, 1977, in Hobbs.
She worked as a volunteer for Head Start.
Ms. Lopez was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church.
Survivors include her parents, Charlie and Betty Lopez of Hobbs; a brother, Charlie Lopez Jr. of Midland, Texas; and a son, Samuel L. Garza of Hobbs.

Isaac Harvey
LOVINGTON - Memorial services for Isaac Harvey of Lovington will be held at 10 a.m. today at Kingdom Hall in Lovington.
Chester Foster will officiate. Cremation will take place under the direction of Memory Gardens Direct Services.
Mr. Harvey, 16, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at his home. He was born Jan. 9, 1984, in Lovington.
He was a student in the Lovington School District. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his mother, Josie Harvey; four brothers, Abraham, Thomas, Jacob and Michael; and a sister, Jolie.
His father, Thomas Lloyd Harvey, preceded him in death in 1997.

Helen W. Black
PORTALES -- Services for Helen W. Black of Portales, stepmother of coach Ron Black of Hobbs, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Trinity Baptist Church in Mesa, Ariz. Additional services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, at First Baptist Church in Portales.
Mrs. Black, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 3, at her son's home in Gilbert, Ariz., following a lengthy illness. She was born March 26, 1918, in McAlister. She married Robert Worthington of Clovis on Oct. 17, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Dr. Ralph Black of Portales on June 7, 1986.
She graduated from McAlister High School in 1935. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico Junior College in 1937. She also attended Texas Tech University and Highlands University.
After college, Mrs. Black lived in Clovis, working at Phillips Music Co. and later at Eubank and Son. In 1951, she moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she owned and operated the Westernaire Motel along with her husband. She also worked at Dillards Department Store in Mesa from 1976 to 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clovis, where she was active in the music activities of the church and directed the choir.
She moved back to Portales in 1986, where she became a member of the First Baptist Church. She was an active member of East Valley View Homemakers Club and the Portales Hospital Auxiliary.
Other survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Cindy Johnson of Guam; two sons, Jim Bob Worthington of Gilbert, Ariz., and Monty Worthington of Guam; two more stepsons, Dr. Richard Black of Fayetteville, N.C., and Doug Black of Albuquerque; two sisters, Glenn Frazier of House and Lenna Williams of Fullerton, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Vesta L. Jones
Services for Vesta L. Jones of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Grantham Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan, Okla.
Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Hilton, Okla. She married Harry Jones on July 28, 1941, in Pauls Valley, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1972.
She had been a resident of Hobbs since 1962. She was a member of Bel Aire Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronnie Jones; and a daughter, Carolyn Kaye.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Lewis of Levelland, Texas, and Linda Youngblood of Hobbs; two sisters, Golda Knudsen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Betty Jo Mahon of St. Elmo, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bel Aire Baptist Church of Hobbs, Hospice or the Hobbs Senior Citizens Center, 200 E. Park, Hobbs, N.M. 88240.

Altha F. Rice
PORTALES -- Services for former Hobbsan Altha Fay (Altie) Rice of the Bethel community will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel.
The Rev. James Terry, pastor of Faith Temple Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Floyd Cemetery.
Mrs. Rice, 62, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at her home. She was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Seagraves, Texas. She married Bill Berry, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 19, 1971, she married N.C. (Norv) Rice.
She grew up west of the Floyd community on the Price Ranch. She lived in Portales until 1971, when she moved to Moriarty. She moved back to Portales and in 1974, moved to Hobbs. In 1994, the couple returned to the Bethel Community.
Mrs. Rice was a member of Faith Temple Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Jim Bob Berry of Iredell, Texas, and George (Moe) Berry of Fort Sumner; two daughters, Dottie Tipton of Floyd and Janida King of Houston, Texas; her mother, Imogene Fuqua of Portales; a brother, Jim Fuqua of Bethel; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
Her father, James B. (Dunk) Fuqua, and a brother, Joe Bernard Fuqua, also preceded her in death.

Harold L. Danks
PUEBLO, Colo. -- Services and burial for Harold L. Danks of Pueblo, father of Clayette Kashner of Hobbs, were held on Monday, Aug. 7, in Pueblo.
Mr. Danks, 91, died on Wednesday, Aug. 2, in Pubelo. He was born in LaVeta, Colo., on May 16, 1909. He married Audrey Haynes on Nov. 28, 1942, in Clovis. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1983.
He was a veteran of World War II. He had retired as a railroad engineer from CF&I/Colorado and Wyoming Railroad in 1974.
Other survivors include two other daughters, Pamela Danks and Ieleene Watts, both of Pueblo; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Roger W. Wright
Graveside services and burial for Roger W. Wright of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. today at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Ken Yoakum will officiate.
Mr. Wright, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at Hobbs Healthcare Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Wynona, Okla.
Survivors include a son, Donnie Wright of Pawhuska, Okla.; a daughter, Shirley Ann Lovell of Hominy, Okla.; four brothers, Joe Wright of Hobbs, Ray Wright of Shidler, Okla., Eddie Wright of Capitan and T.G. Wright of Rose, Okla.; three sisters, Earlene Koons of Dro Valley, Ariz., Joyce L. Helton of Albuquerque, JoAnn Minter of Browken Arrow, Okla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A son, a great-grandchild and his parents preceded him in death.

Thomas R. Johnson
Services for Thomas Russell Johnson of Midland, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel.
Leon Green will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Hobbs.
Mr. Johnson, 76, died Sunday, Aug. 6, in Midland. He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Slaton, Texas. He married Dorothy Mayfield Johnson on Nov. 22, 1944, at the First Baptist Church in Eunice.
He worked as a pumper and lease foreman for Conoco for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Edna Burnett of Yelma, Wash., and Linda Malicoat of Midland; one sister, Rita Appleton of Hobbs; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Linus Johnson, and two brothers, Jack Johnson and Marsh Gene Johnson, preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roger W. Wright
A funeral is pending at Griffin Funeral Home for Roger W. Wright of Hobbs.
Mr. Wright died Saturday, Aug. 5, at the age of 75 at Hobbs Health Care Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1925.
He is survived by a brother, Joe Wright of Hobbs.

Vesta L. Jones
Services are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home of Vesta L. Jones of Hobbs.
Mrs. Jones, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Hilton, Okla.

Ruth J. Smith
A funeral for Ruth J. Smith of Hobbs will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Prairie Haven Chapel under the direction of Rev. Leon Green.
Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funerl Home.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 8 p.m. and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Chapel of Hope.
Mrs. Smith, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 3, at Sunbridge Care Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1907, in Davidson, Okla. She married Ferrill Smith on Sept. 16, 1929, in Duncan, Okla.
Survivors include four sons; Howard Smith of Hobbs, Kenneth Smith of Hobbs, Jerry Smith of Hobbs and Bill Smith of Fortuna, Calf.; one sister, Alice Spurgeon of Alma, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ferrill Smith, three sisters, two brothers and one grandson.
