SNIDER: Bert Meader Snider Jr., 78, of Seattle, formerly of Silver City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, in Seattle. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday in Seattle and burial will be at sea from a submarine. Mr. Snider was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Silver City. He was the son of Bert Meader Snider Sr. and Lillian Garner Snider. He was married to his wife, LaVelle, for 53 years. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Mary Agnes Snider of Silver City; a niece; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his only child, Bert Meader Snider III. Mr. Snider grew up in and attended schools in Silver City. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, when he was a sophomore at New Mexico State Teachers College. He served 30 years in the Navy, 27 of those years in the submarine division. While in the Navy, he served in the South Pacific. After he retired from the Navy, he went back to college in Seattle and graduated with an engineering degree. Mr. Snider then went to work for the telephone company in Washington, where he worked until he retired. Mr. Snider was past president of the Eagles Lodge in Port Orchard, Wash., and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. VEGA: Julio C. Vega, 89, a lifelong resident of Grant County, entered into eternal rest Thursday, Nov. 30, in Silver City. A prayer vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Baca's Funeral Chapels, with Father Virgilio Flores leading in prayer. Mr. Vega was born June 19, 1911, to Eraclio Vega and Sotera Cuevas in Pinos Altos. He married Juanita A. Vega in 1963. Mr. Vega was retired from Don Berry Construction Co., where he was a carpenter for 25 years. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for several years, and had worked at mostly all the area mines. Mr. Vega was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a very special person and touched many lives. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Mr. Vega is survived by his daughters, Julia V. Artiaga of Bayard, Gloria Vega of Santa Clara, and Priscilla Parra and her husband, Alberto, of Silver City; numerous nephews and nieces; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita A. Vega; parents, Eraclio and Sotera Vega; brothers, Locario Vega, Isidoro Vega and Juan Vega; a sister, Simona Vega; a nephew, Lorenzo Alvarado; a niece, Sotera Arrey; and a son-in-law, Antonio M. "Hank" Gomez Jr., 33, a lifelong resident of Silver City, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock. He was born Sept. 5, 1967, to Enriquez P. Gomez Sr. and Angela Padilla in Los Angeles. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping and fishing. He served in the U.S. Army. What he considerd his greatest moments was the quality time he spent with his children. He loved them dearly and they brought nothing but brightness to his life. Survivors include his wife, Melody M. CABRAL: Louis Cabral, a resident of Redrock, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, after a brief illness. He was 92 years old. He was one of the original members of the Cowboy's Turtle Association and had been a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association since its founding. As a teamster and stunt rider, he did motion picture and circus work, and worked on commercials. His most popular act was Roman jumping three horses over a flaming hurdle. He remained active as a horseman and rancher until his illness. Services are to be held in Hollister, Calif. Mrs. Molina is survived by four children, Ramona Silva and her husband, Miguel, of Deming, Robert Molina and his wife, Connie, of Santa Clara, Olivia Salas and her husband, Damas, of Silver City, and Sammy Molina and his wife, Katie, of Hurley; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beta Arzaga of Silver City, and Mena Carrasco and her husband, Jesus, of Cashion, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews, including her nephew Manuel Sierra, who made his home with her for some years. She was preceded in death by her husband, on June 1, 1960; three daughters, Elodia, Refugia and Delores Molina; and her parents. MULCHAHEY: Alice Marie Mulchahey, 84, of Silver City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Silver City Care Center. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 11, 1916, and later moved to El Paso, Texas, where she met and married Henry Raymond Mulchahey in 1955. They moved in 1976 to Mimbres, where they built a trilevel home overlooking the valley. Mrs. Mulchahey was employed as a secretary for Southern Pacific Railroad for many years. She raised German shepherd dogs and was a judge for American Kennel Club shows. She was a member of the Eastern Star. A private burial service will be held Sunday in Mimbres. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1982, and by a daughter, Marie, in 1944. She is survived by three stepchildren. Lundy, a longtime resident and civic leader of Deming, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, to Vern E. and Mary Lou Lundy in Clarion, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming. The prayer vigil and rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. He trained as a cadet in Victorville, Calif., where he received his bombardier wings in 1941. During World War II, he was stationed in England, where he served with the 8th Air Force. He completed 25 missions over Germany. Among other medals, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement and valor in the European Theater of War. He served at Deming Army Air Field as a bombardier flight leader and cadet instructor. There he met and married his wife of 55 years, Celia. Mr. Lundy was an active business and civic leader in Deming before he retired in 1977 as part owner/manager of Mahoney's Hardware Store. He served two separate terms on the Deming City Council; was a charter member of St. Joseph Council 4256, serving as council treasurer for 25 years and as a fourth degree knight with Assembly No. 1731; was a member and past president of the Old Timers Association; and was a member and past president of the Rotary Club. Mr. Lundy was a member of Holy Family Church and served on the first parish council, established in 1949. In 1977, he was appointed by Gov. Jerry Apodaca to serve a two-year term on the International Space Hall of Fame Commission in Alamogordo. Besides his wife, Mr. Lundy is survived by four sons, John and his wife, Marcella, Patrick and Brian, all of Deming, and Michael and his wife, Mimi, of Jackson, Tenn.; four daughters, Marya Mitchell and husband, Dennis, of Columbus, Ohio, Suzanne Lundy of Alamogordo, Kathy Duran and husband, Stephen, of Deming, and Margaret Dell and husband, Scott, of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, J. GOMEZ: Florencio J. Gomez, 78, of Bayard left his place on Earth and entered eternal life Wednesday, Oct. 24, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 14, 1923, in Santa Barbara, Calif., to Uriel P. and Isabel Juarez Gomez. Mr. Gomez served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, 716th Company, 200th Camp during World War II. He retired as a machine operator from Kennecott Copper Corp. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3347 and a member of the Catholic Church. LINDSAY: William F. "Bill" Lindsay, 75, a noted nuclear physicist and 36-year resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 23. He is also survived by his sister, Francis Dlugopolski of Roanoke, Va. He also leaves behind his loving companion, Nancy Moyer of Amarillo, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. He served in the Navy during World War II, graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee with a degree in engineering/physics, and attended graduate school at the University of Washington. He began his career with Boeing Corp. and made significant contributions in the advancement of our nation's nuclear capabilities as a subcontractor for Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratories, White Sands Testing Facility, and the Nevada Test Site. He also worked for the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria, for several years. Mr. Lindsay enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it be on the golf course, watching his Green Bay Packers, traveling, or gathering his family to celebrate. He never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind. The Green Bay Packers will not be playing this weekend, perhaps in honor of their greatest fan. An informal memorial/open house will be at the family home from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. No further services are planned. He was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Pastura, N.M., to Antanacio and Cecilia (Flores) Arellin. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He married Mary Hagen on Aug. 21, 1948, in Lordsburg. After his military service, he worked for the railroad in Deming, then as a gardener at Fort Bayard, then for Frank Tatsch and then Richard Tatsch. He retired after 30 years from Phelps Dodge, where he was gang boss at the Tyrone carpenter shop. He loved gardening and, having an ornery sense of humor, teasing people. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He loved his grandchildren and was a great dad and devoted family man. She loved the outdoors and her bird, "Pajarito Curo." She was a good storyteller and loved giving advice to family members. She was also known for having all her relatives come to her home, and she enjoyed making them a big pot of menudo and lots of tortillas. She and her husband once owned and operated a restaurant in Santa Rita called La Palma. She loved her grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by four sons, Rodolfo Herrera of Santa Clara, state Rep., Manuel Herrera and wife, Kathleen, of Bayard, Bernardo Herrera of Oceanside, Calif., and Nicholas Herrera and wife, Ramona, of El Paso, Texas. LUCERO: Teresa Montes Lucero, 68, a resident of Bayard, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, at University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Baca's Funeral Chapels, followed by the prayer vigil at 7. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 in the morning at Our Lady of Fatima Church, with Father Paulus Kao officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Mrs. Lucero was one of 13 children born to Luis Barragan Montes and Dionicia (Saiz) Montes. She was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Silver City. A certified licensed practical nurse at Hillcrest General Hospital and Fort Bayard Medical Center prior to her retirement in 1982, she loved her job because it allowed her to do what she did best, to care for others. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, arts and crafts, going to bingo games, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Lucero is survived by her loving husband, Manuel L. Lucero; one son, Manuel Lucero Jr., and his wife, Belinda, of Las Cruces; two daughters, Rita Telles and husband, Armando, of Tucson, and Mary Margaret Lucero, who resides in the family home in Bayard; five grandchildren, Tamera Lucero, Tashina Lucero, Bria Lucero, Selina Telles and Armando Telles Jr.; her mother, Dionicia Saiz Montes of Silver City; four brothers, Ignacio Montes and wife, Dolores, of Palmdale, Calif., Henry Montes and companion, Ruth, of Mesa, Ariz., Jimmy Montes and wife, Gloria, of La Puente, Calif., and Willie Montes and wife, Mary, of Columbia, Tenn.; eight sisters, Josie Ponce and husband, Cruz, of Silver City, Antonia Castrillo and husband, Camillo, of Tucson, Emilia Delgado and husband, Tony, of Silver City, Ramona Pe a and husband, Manuel, of Hurley, Elsie Pacheco and husband, Larry, of Espa ola, Margie Esqueda and husband, Johnny, of Bayard, Virginia Gonzales and husband, Willie, of Bayard, and Mary Dorchus of Mesa; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Luis B. Montes, in 1973, and a nephew, Bernie Rael. VASQUEZ: Julia H. Vasquez, 82, a resident of Silver City, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Silver City Care Center. At her request, cremation has taken place. Concluding services and inurnment will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. She was born Jan. 28, 1919, in San Lorenzo to Florencio and Margarita (Maderio) Heredia. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening, and was a communicant of St. Francis Newman Center Parish. She is survived by three sons, Frank Vasquez and wife, Elpidia, of Las Cruces, Richard Vasquez and wife, Fidelie, of Whittier, Calif., and David Vasquez and wife, Adaline, of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter, Lilly Vasquez of El Monte, Calif.; brother, Dolores Heredia, and wife, Lola, of Santa Clara; and sister, Agueda Sanchez of Bayard. She is also survived by a special niece, Flora Gary; nephew, Lencho Heredia; and by 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. LIEN: Shirley Rae Lien, 66, a Deming resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 16, following an extended illness, surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed. She was born July 27, 1935, in Red Bluff, Calif., to Nellie Irene Etzler and Harold James Pasnault. She graduated from high school in June 1953 and married Randall Rogers on Jan. 10, 1954. They were together for 18 years and this union brought forth four loving children, of whom she was very proud. With one child left at home, she married Wallace "Wally" Lien on March 17, 1979, when he still had three children at home. Together, they had 11 children. Mrs. Lien worked for Chino Mines for 13 years; Bayard Elementary School, two years; New Mexico State University, five years; and the Oakland School District, six years. Returning to Deming in 1985, she opened her own business, and, beginning in 1990, she worked for Bob Kirton, administrator of the Deming Moose Lodge, for five years. She became a member of the Women of the Moose in 1989 and became a cherished member of the organization. She received many awards, including her cap and gown, one of the highest awards given by the Women of the Moose. Mrs. Lien is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Wally Lien; two sons, James "Buddy" Rogers and his wife, Nancy, of Arizona, and Kenny Rogers and his wife, Julie, of New Mexico; daughters, Patricia "Patty" Harris and her husband, Lenny, of Montana, and Becky Rickman of New Mexico; a stepdaughter, Ida Kennedy, and her husband, Rhett, of Arizona; nine grandchildren, Heather Dolan and her husband, Mike, of Arizona, Stephanie Nix of Arizona, C.J. and Clay Rogers of Arizona, Dennis Lien Jr. of California, Jayson Harris of Montana, Tessa Rae Rickman of New Mexico, and Wyatt and Payton Kennedy of Arizona; and three stepsons, one stepdaughter, eight step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of California. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie, in 1959; stepmother, Pat, in 1960; and father, Harold "Whitey," in 1969. She enjoyed making each holiday special for her family. "Chacho" Misquez Jr., 14, a resident of Bayard, entered into eternal rest Monday, Oct. 15, in Santa Clara. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley. The prayer vigil will begin at 7, led by Deacon Bill Holguin. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Friday at 11 in the morning at Infant Jesus Catholic Church, with Father Michael Lindsay officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at the San Juan Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. He was born March 26, 1987, in Silver City to Orlando B. and Rubie (Dominguez) Misquez. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, hunting, welding, and playing with his dog and friends. He was a freshman at Cobre High School. He is survived by his parents, Orlando and Rubie Misquez of the family home; sister, Evelyn Marie Misquez of Bayard; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Cecilia Misquez of Sherman; maternal grandparents, Leandro and Lupe Dominguez of Faywood; great-grandmother, Consuelo Dominguez of Faywood; and godparents, Randy Dominguez and Reina Salaiz. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. TIPTON: Charlotte Nancy Tipton, 69, of Silver City passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, in Gila Regional Medical Center. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time. Mrs. Tipton was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Jonesboro, Tenn. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Clara Basket Kincheloe. She married Joseph J. Tipton on July 30, 1949, in Johnson City, Tenn. Mrs. Tipton is survived by her husband, Joseph; one daughter, Joey K. Young, and her husband, Allan, of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Victoria Young, Charles Young, Elizabeth Young and Rose Henry, all of Tucson; her mother, Clara Imboden; two brothers, Jim Kincheloe and his wife, Katie, and Frank Kincheloe, all of Silver City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and one infant daughter, FeFe, in 1950. Mrs. Tipton grew up in Johnson City and attended schools there. She enjoyed traveling, and flower gardening around her home. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook. VAN CLEAVE: Nona Mae Van Cleave, 76, a longtime resident of Hurley, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home in Deming. The oldest of four children, she was born May 22, 1925, in Santa Rita to Luther and Elsie Roberts Flowers. She worked at American National Bank in Silver City for many years, and was a member of the Copper Crest Country Club, always enjoying a good game of bridge. She was a member of Bayard Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, James Van Cleave of California; one sister, Kay Chavez of Deming; and one grandson, J.D., of Arizona. One niece and four nephews who were very dear to her and whom she loved very much are Earleen Hilde, Allen Adkins, Mark and Craig Harrison, and Lee Chavez. Mrs. Van Cleave was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Van Cleave; one brother, Luther William Flowers; and one sister, Ione Lois Adkins.
