`Louie' Geanopoulos, owned New Crane Street Restaurant
PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Elias "Louie" Geanopoulos, 86, died Sunday at Morton Plant Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Sparta, Greece, Mr. Geanopoulos moved to Wilmington, Del., in 1939 and to Schenectady in 1944. He retired to Florida in 1988.
He had served in the EVZONE Unit of the Greek Army before coming to the United States. The unit was guard to King George. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, participating in the D-Day invasion.
Mr. Geanopoulos was a high school graduate.
He owned the New Crane Street Restaurant, formerly known as M's Diner, Schenectady.
Mr. Geanopoulos was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Laconian Society and Cretan Society, Clearwater, Fla.
He was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, Schenectady, and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Clearwater, Fla.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Antonia Rettas Geanopoulos; three daughters, Maria Pappas of Loudonville, Cynthia DeLigiannis of Niskayuna and Georgia Perentesis of Red Bank, N.J.; four brothers, Vangeli Geanopoulos of Canada, Leon Geanopoulos of Wilmington, Del., and George and Peter Geanopoulos, both of Greece; a sister, Everthiki Eliopoulos of Greece; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton St., Schenectady.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 at the funeral home. Societies in attendance will be the Disabled American Veterans, Laconian Society and the Cretan Society.
Burial will be in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.

Pamela Lonczak
BALLSTON LAKE - Mrs. Pamela Bennett Lonczak, 53, of Hubbs Road, died at home Sunday.
Mrs. Lonczak was raised in Bethel, Conn., and later moved to Ballston Lake.
She attended Clifton Park Center Baptist Church and Fruitful Vine Christian Church, where she also sang.
Mrs. Lonczak taught women's Bible studies and acted as a lay counselor.
She had participated in Grace Homeschool Fellowship and the Schenectady Leah chapter since 1992.
Mrs. Lonczak started Comforting Grace Ministries, a Christ-centered cancer support group for women.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Lonczak; four sons, Robert, Christopher and Mark Rennie and Jonathan David Lonczak, all of Clifton Park; a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Lonczak of Clifton Park; a sister, Diane Anderson of Brookfield, Conn.; a brother, Peter R. Bennett of Naugatuck, Conn.; and a grandson.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fruitful Vine Christian Church, 1 Fairchild Square, Clifton Park.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the church.
Arrangements are by Family Funeral Care, Schenectady.

James N. Houd
JOHNSTOWN - James N. Houd, 52, of Burton Street, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Rochester, Mr. Houd was a lifelong area resident.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Woods Houd, whom he married Aug. 26, 1979; and three brothers, Robert Sweetman of Johnstown, Michael Sweetman of Tribes Hill and William Houd of Manchester, Vt.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to a charity of one's choice.

Hugh Elliott
NORTHVILLE - Hugh C. Elliott, 68, of Third Street, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken at home.
Born in Mayfield, Mr. Elliott lived most of his life there and also in Colchester, Conn., for 10 years. He was a 1950 graduate of Mayfield Central School.
Mr. Elliott served as an Air Force sergeant from 1950 to 1954.
He was a steam turbine operator at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in Middletown, Conn., and later worked at Robison and Smith in Gloversville. He was an insurance sales representative for Prudential Insurance Co. and a salesman for Finkle Distributors in Mayfield. Subsequently, Mr. Elliott was employed at Price Chopper in Johnstown.
Many years ago, Mr. Elliott was a pitcher for the former Mayfield Pirates, a semi-professional baseball team.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Henry Elliott, whom he married Nov. 25, 1956; a daughter, Margaret Peggy Buyce of Gloversville; and a granddaughter.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady, with final burial at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.

Donald Foster
SCHENECTADY - Donald Edward Foster, 81, of Steers Avenue, died Monday at Ellis Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Burlington, Vt., Mr. Foster came to Schenectady as a young man.
He was a machine operator at the Watervliet Arsenal before serving in the Army during World War II. He was an infantryman and sharpshooter in Europe, Africa and the Middle Eastern campaigns. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars.
He worked for the Pleasant Valley Meatpacking Co. in Schenectady for 27 years. He and his wife also operated a parts supply business for Butaco Motor Bikes in Virginia Beach, Va., for several years. He returned to Schenectady and later worked in maintenance for the Edison Country Club in Rexford.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bolevice Foster, whom he married July 1, 1939; five sons, Richard D. Foster of Glenville, Robert D. Foster of Rotterdam, John E. Foster of Schenectady, Daniel A. Foster of Scotia and William D. Foster of Niskayuna; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Adolpho Campagnano
ROME, Italy - Adolpho Campagnano, 68, of Rome, Italy, died Saturday in Rome.
Born in Squille, Italy, Mr. Campagnano was a policeman in Rome.
Survivors include his wife, Bridida Leonetta Campagnano; three daughters, Franca Torono, Adriona Campagnano and Maria Gracia Della Porta, all of Italy; a sister,Marie Viscusi of Schenectady; and two brothers, Nickelle and Carlo Campagnano, both of Italy.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam.
Local arrangements are by the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, Rotterdam.

William Welke
AMSTERDAM - William J. Welke, 45, of Brookside Avenue, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Welke was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
He worked for Coleco for many years and was later employed by Mohawk Finishing for six years. He was employed by Precision Sheet Metal at the time of his death.
Survivors include his mother, Gertrude McNamara of Amsterdam; his father, Richard Welke of Broadalbin; his fiancee, Nonagail Drobish of Amsterdam; four brothers, Thomas Welke of Broadalbin, George and Richard Welke and David Palmieri, all of Amsterdam; five sisters, Linda Mochrie of Fonda, Robin McCumber of Florence, Colo., Dawn Swanker, Janet Slawienski and Jean Blanchard, all of Amsterdam.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Walter Baker
VESTAL, Broome County - Walter E. Baker, 79, of Alice Street, died Monday at home after a long illness.
Born in Broadalbin, Mr. Baker lived in Vestal for more than 40 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Broadalbin Central School.
Mr. Baker was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
He was an engineer at General Electric Co. in Schenectady and at Johnson City, Broome County, for more than 43 years.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Vestal.
Survivors include his wife, Helene LaVallee Baker, whom he married May 30, 1941; two sons, Robert E. Baker of Harpursville, Broome County, and James W. Baker of Moncks Corners, S.C.; two brothers, Raymond Baker Jr. of Brandywine, Md., and William J. Baker of Danbury, Conn.; three sisters, Goldie M. Anderson, Katherine R. VanNostrand and Donna E. Rockwell, all of Gloversville; two granddaughters; and two stepgrandsons.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin.

Susan Stopielo
MENANDS - Miss Susan M. Stopielo, 96, of Tillinghast Avenue, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Rutland, Vt., Miss Stopielo lived in Bennington, Vt., for a short time before relocating to Troy, where she attended St. Peter's Academy. She lived in Menands for more than 60 years.
Miss Stopielo was a teacher in the Troy School system for 34 years. She furthered her education in curriculum development in vocational studies at the State University of New York at Oswego. She received many awards for her ideas on study plans and methods in her field of study. She retired in 1974. In her earlier years, Miss Stopielo worked for the former Cluett & Peabody Co. in Troy and the Foreman and Clark Co. in Watervliet.
She was a member of the New York State Teachers Union.
Miss Stopielo was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church.
Survivors include three nephews, Albert Pello of Providence, R.I., Anthony Pello of Bennington, Vt., and Michael Pello of Silver Spring, Md.; three nieces, Lucy LeRay of Bennington, Vt., Sister Madeline Colaneri of Albany and Carmel Babcock of Burlington, Vt.
The service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford, and at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.

Stella Mortka
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Mrs. Stella Minkiewicz Mortka, 93, of Tiffany House, died Monday at the Broward Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Mortka had lived in Schenectady until moving to Florida in 1970.
She had been a winder at the General Electric Co. for several years until her retirement.
Mrs. Mortka was a former communicant of the Church of Saint Adalbert, Schenectady.
Her first husband, John Sobieski, died in 1963; her second husband, John Mortka, died in 1987.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Heisler of Rock City Falls.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady, followed at 9 a.m. at the Church of Saint Adalbert, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam.
