Elizabeth Murphy
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mrs. Elizabeth Jankovich Murphy, 79, of Seward Street, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Murphy was born in Porter Corners. She attended Daketown School and was a 1937 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School.
For 10 years, Mrs. Murphy worked at the VanRaalte & Co. Knitting Mill.
For 27 years, she worked at Espey Manufacturing Co. and later worked several years at the Saratoga Raceway.
Mrs. Murphy was a volunteer for Saratoga Emergency Corps.
She was a member of Grace Community Church of Burnt Hills.
Her husband, Robert F. Murphy, died in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Murphy Capone of Saratoga Springs; a son, Robert F. Murphy Jr. of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Ann Teto of Schenectady; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
There are no calling hours.

Doris Beakbane
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Mrs. Doris Rita Beakbane, 70, of Reservoir Road, Town of Moreau, died Tuesday at home.
Born in Waterford, Mrs. Beakbane was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, Cohoes.
She was a bus driver at Shenendehowa Central Schools for more than 20 years, retiring in 1991.
Survivors include her husband, Milton Beakbane; four sons, Leo Bonneau of Belleville, N.J., Michael Bonneau of Michigan, Ronald Bonneau of Evanston, Wyo., and Richard Bonneau of South Glens Falls; two daughters, AnnaMarie Rogner and Susan Gori, both of Ballston Spa; a brother, Raymond Primeau of Cohoes; three sisters, Madeline Olszowy, Lucille and Marieanne Primeau, all of Cohoes; and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Saratoga Road. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St.
Burial will be in Glens Falls Cemetery, Glens Falls.

`Whit' Brown, 61, was senior account executive for Contel
GLOVERSVILLE - Private services will be held for A. Whitney "Whit" Brown III, 61, of Alexander Street, who died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Mr. Brown was born in Gloversville.
He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1957. He was class president for three years and co-captain of the undefeated football team in 1956.
He served in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Johnstown Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was business office manager for the General Telephone Co. from 1958 until the early 1970s, when he became marketing manager.
Mr. Brown was senior account executive for Contel of New York from 1979 to 1985. From 1985 to 1987, he was senior account executive in Albany and direct sales manager in Boston. He was an account executive for Contel Customer Support from 1987 to 1988 and senior account executive for Contel IPC Information Systems in Philadelphia from 1989 to 1995. He subsequently worked at Amsterdam Printing and Litho.
He was awarded the 1991 President's Award and was named to the Contel Customer Support President's Club in 1988. In 1984, he was named Contel of New York Salesperson of the Year for Sales Achievement. He was named a member of Contel Elite and GTE Salesperson of the Year in 1976.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Cline of Johnstown and Kelly Shields of Amsterdam; a son, Michael W. Brown of Gloversville; and five grandchildren.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 this evening at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

James R. Bodwell, 84, WWII veteran of Navy Seabees
WEST CHARLTON - Private services will be held for World War II veteran James R. Bodwell, 84, of Route 67, who died Tuesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Bodwell lived in Michigan before coming to New York on 1936.
He worked at Adirondack Steel Foundries in Watervliet until 1941. He retired from General Electric in 1981 after 40 years of service.
Mr. Bodwell was a Navy Seabees veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
He was a member of West Charlton Church and the GE Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Jacobsen Bodwell, whom he married in 1947; three sons, Christian Bodwell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Scott Bodwell of Sheyboygan, Wis., and Graham Bodwell of West Charlton; a daughter, Lynn Cowper of Clifton Park; a brother, Graham Bodwell of Metamora, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Koester of Dearborn, Mich. and Jessie Flowers of Tigard, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the Galway Volunteer Ambulance Corp. or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

Marie Levonian Darian, 105, came to U.S. from Turkey
TROY - Mrs. Marie Levonian Darian, 105, of Detroit Avenue, died Wednesday at Heritage House Nursing Center.
Born in Aintab, Turkey, Mrs. Darian came to this country in 1920. She lived in Detroit for several years and had been a resident of Troy since 1930.
She was a homemaker and an active worker in the United Armenian Calvary Congregational Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph Darian of Schenectady and Leo Darian of Colonie.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Bryce Funeral Home, corner of Pawling and Maple avenues.
Calling hours will be from 5 this afternoon until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery.

William Campbell
FULTONVILLE - William F. Campbell, 83, of Sprakers Road, Sprakers, formerly of Brumley Road, Fultonville, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Campbell lived there, and in Long Island, before moving to Fultonville in 1984.
He was a steamfitter for the Brooklyn Navy Depot for 15 years.
Later, Mr. Campbell was a maintenance worker for the New York City Housing Authority for more than 20 years, retiring in 1977.
During World War II, he was an Army medical corpsman serving in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fultonville.
He was a member and commandant of the Excelsior Yacht Club in Brooklyn.
Mr. Campbell was a former member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
His wife, Patricia Campbell, whom he married July 28, 1951, died in 1969.
Survivors include a nephew, Kenneth Kuck of Albany; three nieces, Doris Tsamos of Staten Island, Marie Nelson of Brooklyn and Eileen Powell of Queens; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, where a calling hour will begin at noon.
Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Contributions to the American Cancer Society may be made in care of the funeral home.

Richard Sefcovic
JOHNSTOWN - Richard J. Sefcovic, 82, of Briggs Street, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a short illness.
Mr. Sefcovic was born in Johnstown.
He retired in 1990 from N.A. Taylor of Gloversville.
Mr. Sefcovic also worked for the former Johnstown Tanning and the former Fleming & Joffe.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army's Second Armored Division.
Mr. Sefcovic was a member of St. Anthony's Church, the Johnstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 510, the Pine Tree Rifle Club, and the Johnstown Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Tanner Sefcovic, whom he married Aug. 9, 1952; two sons, Anthony and John Sefcovic, both of Johnstown; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Church, Nicholas Street.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St.

Mary Marek
PERTH - Mrs. Mary J. Marek, 82, of McKay Road, died Wednesday at home.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Marek was a lifelong area resident.
She worked for the St. Thomas Co. in Gloversville prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Marek was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church.
She was a member of Hagaman Senior Citizens and served as the organization's secretary for five years.
Her husband, Herman Marek, died in 1969.
Survivors include a son, Jerome Marek of Perth; a daughter, Diana Marek of Niskayuna; a brother, George Pilecki of Schoharie; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., and at 10 at St. Stanislaus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
A calling hour will precede the services Friday at the funeral home.

Sophie Gacek
GUILDERLAND - Private services will be held for Mrs. Sophie Gacek, 86, of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, who died Wednesday at the center.
Born and educated in Troy, Mrs. Gacek worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy as a member of the support staff for many years.
She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church in North Albany.
Mrs. Gacek was the widow of Raymond Gacek, who died in 1959.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette Argyros of Loudonville; a son, John Gacek of Cobleskill; two sisters, Stella Mack of Cohoes and Mary Maksimowicz of Waterford; a brother, Thomas Godzik of Poultney, Vt.; and a granddaughter.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.

Shirley Maloney
LAKE PLEASANT - Mrs. Shirley M. Maloney, 80, of South Shore Road, died Monday at home after being stricken.
Born in Rochester, Mrs. Maloney had been a part-time resident of Lake Pleasant for 45 years before becoming a permanent resident in 1985.
Mrs. Maloney attended Seton Hill College in Pennsylvania.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Maloney was a member of the Lake Pleasant Golf Club, the Hamilton County Twigs and the Oak Hill Country Club of Rochester.
She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church.
Her husband, Edgar C. Maloney, whom she married July 29, 1944, died in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Schneider of Williamson and Kathleen DeAngelus of Pittsford; a brother, Raymond Beaucaire of Pittsford; and four grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Pittsford Cemetery, Pittsford.
