Joseph Kennedy of Rotterdam; was union official, baseball coach
ROTTERDAM - Retired union official Joseph Michael Kennedy, 62, of Lilac Street died Sunday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Schenectady and lived in this area all his life. He was a 1953 graduate of the former Mont Pleasant High School.
He was a member of Local 106 of the International Union of Operating Engineers since 1953. Mr. Kennedy had served on the union's executive board since 1980 and was appointed vice president of the union in 1990.
He retired in April 1997.
One of the top batting coaches in the area, Mr. Kennedy coached the Guilderland High School baseball team of 1983, which won the Suburban Council crown and had a combined batting average of over .400.
He was a member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dolores Carriere Kennedy; two sons, Jeffrey M. Kennedy and Daniel E. Kennedy, both of Malta; two daughters, Linda A. Kennedy and Maureen M. Cote, both of Rotterdam; a brother, John A. Kennedy of East Rockaway; and nine grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland, where a service is set for 8:30.
Burial will be private.

Lillian Schatz
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Lillian Schatz, 88, of Front Street, died Friday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness.
Mrs. Schatz was born in New Bedford, Mass. She was an area resident for 16 years.
Her husband, Bernard Schatz, died in 1992.
Survivors include four daughters, Janice Pollack of Talladega, Ala., Sandy Axelrod of Allentown, Pa., Phyllis Gavitt of Schenectady and Linda Hedler of Manorville, L.I.; two brothers, Louis Cohen of Florida and Hyman Cohen of Dartmouth, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 this afternoon in New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.
There will be no calling hours.

Lydia Ann Homan
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Lydia Ann Homan, 77, of Granville Avenue, died Friday at home after a short illness.
Born in Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Homan moved to this area as a child. She was a graduate of the former Mont Pleasant High School.
She was a member of New Life Ministries. Her husband, Henry D. Homan, died in 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Schermerhorn of Schenectady and Cecilia A. Homan of Rotterdam; and two sons, John F. Homan of Schenectady and James E. Homan of Glenville.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Academy.

Martha Ackermann
TROY - Mrs. Martha Steidinger Ackermann, 95, of the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, died there Saturday after a long illness.
Mrs. Ackermann was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and lived in Switzerland for 20 years before coming to this country and settling in Glen Head, L.I. She moved to Schenectady in 1990 and to the nursing home in February of that year.
She was married to Adolph J. Ackermann until his death.
Survivors include a son, Robert Ackermann of Schenectady, and four grandchildren.
Services will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Minnie Eddy
NORTHVILLE - Mrs. Minnie Eddy, 91, of 186 County Highway 130, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Mrs. Eddy was born in Benson, Hamilton County. She was a lifelong area resident and attended the former Gifford Valley School and Northville High School.
Mrs. Eddy worked for a short time at the former Kingsley-Mansfield Gloves.
She attended the Cranberry Creek Community Church in Mayfield.
Her husband, Elmer "Bunk" Eddy, whom she married April 24, 1950, died Nov. 4, 1984.
Survivors include several cousins.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cranberry Creek Community Church, 112 Gilbert Road, Mayfield 12117.

Norman Campbell
SEVEN LAKES, N.C. - Norman Campbell, 76, of Seven Lakes died Saturday at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Campbell was born in Grand Rapids, Mich.
He served in World War II with the merchant marine.
After the war, Mr. Campbell joined the General Electric Co. in Burlington, Vt., where he was a designer engineer for more than 25 years.
He retired in 1984 and moved to Seven Lakes.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Burlington Elks Lodge and later Southern Pines Elks Lodge 1692.
He also was a member of the Seven Lakes Modelers Aero Club and the Seven Lakes Sailing Club.
While in Burlington, Mr. Campbell was a member of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Rocky Ridge Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Ann Campbell; a son, Kenneth F. Campbell of Duncanville, Texas; two daughters, Patricia W. Caron of Chesapeake, Va., and Lynda Ann Dawkins of Lakeview; a brother, Richard Campbell of Grass Valley, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines.

Reta P. Bouck
SCHOHARIE - Mrs. Reta P. Bouck, 95, formerly of the Driftwood Apartments, died Friday at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, Oneida County, where she had been a resident since May.
Mrs. Bouck was born in Port Maitland, Nova Scotia, Canada, and came to this country in 1925. She lived in Miami from 1961 until moving to Schoharie in 1982.
She was a graduate of Nova Scotia High School.
As a young woman, Mrs. Bouck worked at the former Harrington's Drugstore on Main Street. Later, she and her husband operated a concession food business at fairs throughout the Northeast.
She was a member of the Wiawaka Ladies Group at the former Community Church, now the Schoharie Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Bouck also was a former member and past worthy matron of Schoharie Valley Chapter 450, Order of the Eastern Star, and a former royal matron in the Amaranth group of the Brenendorf Chapter in Cobleskill.
She was a past member of the Showmen's Association in Miami and a former member of the Schoharie Bridge Club.
Her husband, Harold A. Bouck, whom she married Dec. 15, 1925, died March 4, 1963.
Survivors include a son, Robert W. Bouck of Lake Worth, Fla.; a daughter, Florence H. Beach of Schoharie; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
There will be no services or calling hours. Burial will be in Showmen's Cemetery, Southern Memorial Park, Hialeah, Fla.

Thelma Crosthwait
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mrs. Thelma Crosthwait, 86, of the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home, died Friday at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Crosthwait was born in Greenfield Center.
Her husband, John R. Crosthwait, died in 1952.
Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Muller of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Alice Smero of Greenfield Center, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A service is set for 10 a.m. today at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave.

Ruth Monlea
SCOTIA - Mrs. Ruth Good Monlea, 82, of Gifford Road, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital.
Mrs. Monlea was a lifelong area resident and attended Schenectady High School.
She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady.
Survivors include her husband, Austin Monlea; a son, Ramon A. Monlea of Schenectady; a daughter, Judith Ann Gonzales of Brookfield, Conn.; a sister, Bernice Eldridge of Schenectady; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and at 9 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
