TROY - Mrs. Joan M. Welch, 58, of Grand Street died Tuesday at home after being stricken.
Born in Stillwater, Mrs. Welch attended Schaghticoke schools.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Welch was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Jack Laughter of Stillwater; a daughter, Jo Ann Scott-King of Watervliet; a brother, Arthur E. Welch Jr. of Syracuse; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Chase Funeral Home, 173 Main St., Schaghticoke.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.

Kenneth Tarler
BALLSTON LAKE - Kenneth Marc Tarler, 28, of Glenwood Drive died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
He was a 1987 graduate of Shenendehowa High School and a 1992 graduate of the State University of New York at Potsdam, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics.
Mr. Tarler was founder and president of Accents Advertising Specialties.
He was named to Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges.
Mr. Tarler was a member of the Jaycees and served as past president of the Southern Saratoga Jaycees and Eastern New York region director for the New York State Jaycees. He was the recipient of numerous Jaycees awards, including the 1997 Governor Award, the organization's highest honor.
Survivors include his parents, Gene and Howard Tarler of Ballston Lake; and a brother, Matthew Tarler of Cleveland.
A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Ave., Albany.
Burial will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland.
A period of mourning will be observed at the Tarler residence, 15 Glenwood Drive, Ballston Lake, after the service and through Thursday morning. Services will also be at 7 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ken Tarler Memorial Fund, in care of Temple Israel; or Congregation Beth Shalom, Clifton Park; or the Albany unit of the American Cancer Society.

Lorene Karratti
ALBANY - Mrs. Lorene Moore Karratti, 89, of the University Heights Home died Tuesday at home.
Born in Griffin, Ga., Mrs. Karratti lived in the Capital Region for the past 30 years.
She was a housekeeper and cafeteria worker for various hotels in New York City.
Mrs. Karratti was the widow of Lee M. Moore. She was later married to Carl Karratti until his death.
Survivors include two daughters, Essie Anastasio of Albany and Edna Alger of Delmar; and a brother, Walter Anderson of Griffin; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the W.J. Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bloomingrove Cemetery, Defreestville.

Marion P. Reed
AMSTERDAM - Miss Marion P. Reed, formerly of Guy Park Avenue, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam, Miss Reed attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident. She was a former resident of Park Hill Adult Home and Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
She was a self-employed home aide.
Miss Reed was a member of the Good-Will Club, Guy Park Senior Citizens and the Phi-Delta Society, all in Amsterdam. She also was a member of the former Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and the Mary Martha Circle of the Church of Amsterdam.
There are no immediate survivors.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Forest Hill Cemetery Chapel, Oneida Street, Utica, with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, Church Street, Amsterdam, 12010.

Pearl M. Norris
MAYFIELD - Mrs. Pearl M. Norris, 69, of First Avenue died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
Born and educated in Cazenovia, Mrs. Norris was a resident of Mayfield for the past 30 years.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Norris was a member of the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Harold E. Norris, whom she married March 25, 1967; a son, David Norris of Gloversville; four stepsons, Michael Norris of Inlet, and James, Thomas and Kevin Norris, all of Raquette Lake; a daughter, Darlene Norris of Cazenovia; a stepdaughter, Cindy Carrow of Catskill; four brothers, William and James Goodfellow, both of Cazenovia, Herbert Goodfellow of Syracuse and Ronald Goodfellow of Delhi Falls; three sisters, Donaldleen Albanese of Manlius, Sharon Walters of Cazenovia and Bonnie Monroe of Smyrna, Chenango County; and several step-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 1 p.m Friday at the Northville Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
Spring burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.

Ransom Evans, SUNY teacher, was active in Schoharie County
RICHMONDVILLE - Ransom A. Evans, 64, of Robert Street, former college teacher and town supervisor, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Evans was born in Westford, Otsego County, and lived in Worcester before moving to Richmondville in 1963.
He was a graduate of Worcester Central School and the New York State Teachers College at Albany with a master's degree in commerce, distributive education and guidance education. He pursued postgraduate study at the University at Albany and Rochester Institute of Technology.
He was a supply corps officer in the Navy. During the Cuban missile blockade, he was the direct representative of the chief of naval operations at the Naval Air Station, Key West, Fla.
Mr. Evans taught in the business administration department of the State University of New York at Cobleskill for 26 years, retiring in 1989.
He served nearly three terms as village trustee and deputy mayor before resigning due to illness. He was the town supervisor and served as town Republican Committee chairman for 23 years. Mr. Evans served more than 25 years as a member of the Schoharie County Republican Committee as well as serving on its executive board and as committee secretary. He was a member of the New York and National Republican Committees.
Mr. Evans was in local, district and state Elks lodge associations and community and veterans organizations. He was chairman of government relations for the New York State Elks Association and president of the Conference of Private Organizations of New York State.
He was director-at-large and vice president of the Schoharie County Council of Senior Citizens; member of the Schoharie County Office for the Aging Advisory Board and Schoharie County Transportation Committee; former president and director emeritus of the Schoharie County Community Action Program's board of directors; member, former director and treasurer of the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley; former president of the Schoharie County Village Officers Association; former director of the board of directors of the Schoharie County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3729; life member and former secretary of the Schoharie County Sheriff's Tactical & Rescue Force; life member of the SUNYA Alumni, National Eagle Scout, NYS Retired Teacher and Vroman's Nose Preservation associations. He was a member of the Schoharie County Historical Society; Schoharie County Association for Retarded Children; Schoharie County Maple Festival; National Park & Conservation Association; Schoharie County Retired Teachers Association, Defenders of Wildlife and the Environmental Defense Fund.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Evans, whom he married in 1969; two brothers, David A. and Robert W. Evans, both of Worcester; and his mother, Flora Frayer Evans of Worcester.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cobleskill Elks Lodge, Legion Drive, Cobleskill. The American Legion service will be held at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Elks Lodge service at 7:30 p.m. and a religious service at 8.
Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Raymond E. VanPatten, Jr.
BALLSTON SPA - Raymond E. VanPatten, Jr., 64, of Plummer Road died Wednesday at Saratoga Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in a farm accident.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. VanPatten, served with the Army and moved to Ballston Spa in 1963.
He was a farmer and also operated a firewood business.
Survivors include his wife, Helen VanPatten; two daughters, Kelly Bauer of Ballston Spa and Colleen VanPatten of Saratoga Springs; a brother, Edward VanPatten of Scotia; two sisters, Pauline Spongia of Fox Creek, Pa., and Raye Ann VanPatten of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepbrothers, Leonard Warner of Schenectady and Paul Warner of Fox Creek; and three grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Armer Funeral Home, 39 E. High St.
Burial will be in Powell Wiswall Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sister Marie Falkner
ALBANY - Sister Marie Falkner, formerly Sister Mary Leah, died Wednesday at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Syracuse, Sister Marie was a sister of St. Joseph for 69 years. She was a graduate of Convent School in Syracuse and received a bachelor's degree in music from the College of Saint Rose.
She taught music in schools of the Syracuse Diocese, including St. Paul's and St. Patrick's, Binghamton, and St. Vincent's in Syracuse. She also provided private piano lessons for children in Binghamton and in Syracuse.
Survivors include a brother, Lester G. Falkner of Syracuse.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Virgins Chapel, St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham.
Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 7 tonight at the Heritage Room of the Provincial House. Vespers will be held at 7 in the chapel.
Burial will be in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, Latham.

Virginia Jellison
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Virginia Jellison, 68, of the Glendale Nursing Home, Glenville, died Tuesday at St. Clare's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Jellison was a lifelong Schenectady County resident.
For approximately 10 years, she was a salesclerk for Kmart in Colonie.
Mrs. Jellison was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a niece, Patricia Glennon of Stratham, N.H.
Services and burial will be private.
There will be no calling hours.

William Dewar
WATERFORD - William A. Dewar, 71, of Fonda Road, died Tuesday at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Cohoes, Mr. Dewar was educated at Sacred Heart School and LaSalle Institute in Troy.
He worked for 35 years for the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island, retiring in 1985. He later worked in the security office of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. store in Colonie.
Mr. Dewar served with the U.S. Coast Guard for four years during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific. He was a member of the USS Gloucester Patrol Frigate Association.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hall Dewar; two daughters, Christina E. Clothier of Waterford, and Dr. Diane M. Dewar of Guilderland; and a brother, John Dewar of Clifton Park.
The services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., and at 11:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery.
