Grace Anderson, worked for FDR when she was 16
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Grace Terry "Mother Love" Anderson, who worked for President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Little White House in Warm Springs when she was 16 years of age, died Monday at St. Clare's Hospital. Mrs. Anderson, of Summit Avenue, was 82.
Mrs. Anderson was born and educated in Warm Springs, Ga.
Her service to President Franklin D. Roosevelt was featured in Life magazine.
Mrs. Anderson worked for doctors in the Schenectady area for many years.
She was a member of New Bethel Community Church of God in Christ, formerly known as Bethel Church of God in Christ. She served the church for more than 50 years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lee Anderson, whom she married Dec. 19, 1949; two daughters, Barbara Lee Smith and Terry Ann McDougald, both of Schenectady; four grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
A service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at New Bethel Community Church of God in Christ, 839 Albany St. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m.
Burial, at 9 a.m. Saturday, will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie.
Arrangements are by Light's Funeral Home.

Margaret `Peg' Sowle, 76, owned Covenhoven Gifts
GLEN - Mrs. Margaret "Peg" L. Sowle, who owned and operated Covenhoven Gifts out of her home in Glen for many years, died Sunday at her winter home in Melbourne, Fla. after being stricken. She was 76.
Born in Glen, Mrs. Sowle lived most of her life on the family farm in Glen. She also spent the summer months at Canada Lake. She attended Hartwick College.
She was an antiques dealer at one time and later rented cabins on her property in Canada Lake.
She was a member of the Glen Reformed Church.
Mrs. Sowle was the widow of Carl W. Ruby. She later married John Sowle. He died in 1994.
Survivors include four sons, Richard Ruby of Canada Lake, Rex Ruby of Caroga Lake, Scott Ruby of Gloversville and Michael Sowle of Glen; a daughter, Amy Sowle of Gloversville; a stepson, Chet Sowle of Florida; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Glen Reformed Church, Main Street, Glen. Calling hours will be from 5 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.
Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.

Arnold J. Nellis
PALATINE BRIDGE - Arnold J. Nellis, was a canal structure operator at Lock 15 for the New York state Department of Transportation, died Sunday at the Palatine Nursing Home after a long illness. Mr. Nellis, of Center Street, was 92.
Born and educated in Canajoharie, Mr. Nellis was a lifelong area resident.
He retired in 1972.
Mr. Nellis was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston.
He was a founding member of the former Christian Science Society of Canajoharie. He was a member of the Palatine Society of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Nellis Family Association.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Prall Nellis, whom he married June 10, 1933; four daughters, Catherine Montilla of Clifton Park, Nancy Showerman of Candor, Carol Preston of Manchester, Conn., and Elizabeth Stanley of Burke, Va.; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Charles J. Murnane
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Charles J. Murnane, who was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Panama, died Nov. 22. Mr. Murnane, of Clearwater, was 78.
Born in Utica, N.Y., Mr. Murnane was a graduate of Georgetown University. He moved to Schenectady in 1950.
Mr. Murnane worked for the former American Locomotive Co. He was later the director of labor relations for the Coopers Manufacturing Co. in Springfield, Ohio, until retiring.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary Pallotta Audet Murnane; a son, John D. Murnane of New York City; a daughter, Mary Lourdes Burns of Guilderland; a stepdaughter, Nancy James Reynolds of Clifton Park; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady.
There are no calling hours.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady, with burial at a later date in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

Charles W. Burns Sr.
LOUDONVILLE - Charles W. Burns Sr., who repaired machinery at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 35 years, died Wednesday at the Eddy Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes after a short illness. Mr. Burns, of South Maple Lane, was 86.
He was a lifelong Capital Region resident who was educated in East Greenbush schools.
Mr. Burns retired in 1981.
He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Latham.
Mr. Burns was a member of the Tamarack Outdoorsmen.
He was the widower of Charlotte Golden Burns.
Survivors include a daughter, Marion Burns Hummel of Rome; a son, Charles W. Burns of Loudonville; a sister, Evelyn Paul of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Bowen Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Clement Hellyer, journalist
ROCHESTER, Minn. - Clement David Hellyer, a Southern California journalist who helped bring Latin American news to the pages of American newspapers, died Nov. 15.
Hellyer was the Latin American news editor for The San Diego Union from 1953 to 1960, when the newspaper published more stories on Latin America than any other English-language daily.

Donald Glover
SCHENECTADY - Services were held for Donald Francis Glover, 71, of Ocean Pines, Md., formerly of Schenectady, who died Nov. 20 at Halquist Memorial Inpatient Hospice Center in Arlington, Va., after a short illness.
Mr. Glover was born in Schenectady.
He worked for the General Electric Co. before becoming an electrical engineer for IBM, where he worked for 34 years.
Mr. Glover was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Helen MacGregor Glover, whom he married in 1954; a son, Donald T. Glover of Ashburn, Va.; two daughters, Marcy Crane of Annandale, Va., and Lori Glover-Colavita of Denver, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Ferber of Verona, N.J., and Barbara Glover of Schodack Landing; a brother, James Glover of West Orange, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Rapp Funeral Home, Silver Spring, Md.

Edward T. `Bud' Harrigan
NISKAYUNA - Edward T. "Bud" Harrigan, who was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Mr. Harrigan, of Route 7, was 83.
Mr. Harrigan was born in Troy.
He worked for the New York Central Railroad and was later a machinist with the New York state Department of Transportation before retiring.
Mr. Harrigan was the widower of Mildred Cassidy Harrigan.
Survivors include a sister, Grace Gavin of Schenectady.
The services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy, and at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Troy.
Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Frank LaPietro, Jr.
MECHANICVILLE - Frank P. LaPietro, Jr., 57, of School Street, Riverside, died Tuesday at the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a short illness.
Born in Troy, Mr. LaPietro was a 1961 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
He worked at the former Tagson's Paper Co. and the former West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co., both of Mechanicville.
Mr. LaPietro served in the Air Force. He was a member of the Henry Lefko American Legion Post of Riverside.
He was a member of Assumption-St. Paul Church.
Survivors include his mother, Ann Mickalonis LaPietro of Mechanicville; a brother, Robert LaPietro of Delanson; and a sister, Tiffany Bay of Cohoes.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Assumption-St. Paul Church, William Street. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St.
Burial with military honors will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Harold Seelow
GLOVERSVILLE - Harold Seelow, who was a machinist at the Remington Arms Co. in Ilion for more than 21 years, died Monday at home after being stricken. Mr. Seelow, of Helwig Street, was 62.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. Seelow was a lifelong area resident who attended Gloversville schools.
He served in the National Guard.
Survivors include two sisters, Bertha Minckler of Gloversville and Elaine Minckler of Boaz, Ala.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave.
Cremation was at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.
