Josephine LaRose
COHOES - Mrs. Josephine Skawinski LaRose, who worked in the textile industry and for Barclay Home Products for many years, died Wednesday at home. Mrs. LaRose, of Hamilton Street, was 79.
Mrs. LaRose was born and educated in Cohoes.
Mrs. LaRose was a member of the Cohoes Senior Citizens, the Polish American Association PNA Group 2462 of Cohoes and the Cohoes Columbiettes.
She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and a member of its Rosary Society.
Mrs. LaRose was the widow of Leo E. LaRose.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan LaRose Bilka of Cohoes; two sons, Leo J. and John J. LaRose, both of Cohoes; a sister, Ann Cerqua of Waterford; a brother, Edward Skawinski of Cohoes; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., and at 9:30 at St. Michael's Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours are from 4 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Waterford.

M. Elaine Cromie
VICTORY MILLS - Miss M. Elaine Cromie, who was a legal secretary for the law firm of Paul Jones and Robert Katzman in Saratoga Springs before retiring, died Wednesday at the Hallmark Nursing Center in Granville. Miss Cromie, formerly of Cemetery Road, was 80.
Born in Saratoga Springs, Miss Cromie was a graduate of Columbia University. She lived in Saratoga Springs for many years and also resided at the Home of the Good Shepherd before relocating to the Hallmark Nursing Center.
Miss Cromie was a member of Notre Dame-Visitation Church, Schuylerville.
Survivors include several cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, Pearl Street, Schuylerville.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Marjorie Baker
FULTONVILLE - Private services were held for Mrs. Marjorie Grace Baker, 77, of Maple Avenue, formerly of Canajoharie, who died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
Born in Sharon Springs, Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School and Albany Business College. She moved to Fultonville in 1995.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Baker was a member of St. John and St. Mark Lutheran Church, Canajoharie.
Survivors include her husband, Donald A. Baker, whom she married Feb. 15, 1947; three daughters, Cheryl Horning and Barbara Baker, both of Canajoharie, and Diane Baker of Port Orange, Fla.; two sons, Jeffrey Baker of Canajoharie and Douglas Baker of Rensselaer; and three grandsons.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.

Pasquale and Marianina Riccio
ALVIGNANO, Italy - Pasquale and Marianina Ferucci Riccio of Alvignano, Province of Caserta, died Nov. 13 as a result of an auto accident. He was 67 and she was 65.
Mr. and Mrs. Riccio were lifelong residents of Alvignano. They were married in 1960.
Survivors include two sons, Carmen and Miguel Riccio, both of Alvignano; four sisters, Carmela Coppola of Schenectady and Lucia Martino, Catherine Castiello and Concetta Gallo, all of Italy; and a brother, Rafael Riccio of Italy.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Rosa Road, Schenectady.
Burial was in Alvignano.
Local arrangements are by the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Schenectady.

Ruby Mackey
COLONIE - Mrs. Ruby Potter Mackey, 72, of Shepard Avenue, died at home Wednesday after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Mackey was a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Mackey was a former member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Floyd Mackey, her husband of 24 years, died in 1977.
Her son, Raymond A. Mackey, died in March.
Survivors include two daughters, Ella M. Hokirk of Colonie and Ruby J. Dabis of Parksville; a son, William J. Mackey; two sisters, Pearl Polomaine and Katherine Briggs, both of Schenectady; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Ruth Ward
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Ruth Oathout Ward, who was a supervisor for the N.A. Taylor Co. in Gloversville for more than 20 years, died Wednesday at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home. Mrs. Ward, formerly of Gloversville, was 94.
Born and educated in Gloversville, Mrs. Ward was a longtime resident.
She made gloves out of her home for many years.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gloversville.
Her husband of 62 years, Eurben J. Ward Jr., died in 1984. Her son, William F. Ward, died April 2nd of this year.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Tretola of Gloversville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Shirley Matusak
NISKAYUNA - Mrs. Shirley A. Matusak, who was an administrative assistant at Union College for 25 years, died Tuesday at Albany Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Matusak, of Oregon Avenue, was 68.
Born in Rome, Oneida County, Mrs. Matusak was a graduate of Bryant College with a degree in business administration. She lived in Niskayuna for the past 40 years.
Mrs. Matusak retired from Union College in 1991.
Mrs. Matusak was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Rodney J. Matusak, whom she married in 1951, died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Mark R. Matusak of Tiverton, R.I., and Robin J. Matusak of Johnsonville; a brother, William Whitman Jr. of Booneville; and three grandchildren.
The services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Union St.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Batchellerville Cemetery.

Kenneth Earl Merry, 87, earned Bronze Star in Army
JOHNSTOWN - Kenneth Earl Merry, 87, of Pineview Commons on South Melcher Street, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Mr. Merry was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Army in Germany, France and Italy, and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Conspicuous Service Medal.
Mr. Merry was employed by The Schenectady Gazette, now The Daily Gazette, The Amsterdam Recorder and most recently The Leader-Herald in Gloversville, where he worked in display advertising until his retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include a son, Robert Merry of Utica; a daughter, Margaret Merry of Amsterdam; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his companion, Kathleen Kennedy of Johnstown.
A graveside service will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam, in the spring.

John R. Castelli, 68, coach, teacher in Sch'dy schools
NISKAYUNA - John R. Castelli, 68, of Whitney Drive, died Saturday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness.
Born and educated in Schenectady, Mr. Castelli was a graduate of the former Mont Pleasant High School, where he played varsity basketball.
He earned a bachelor's degree in American history from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1958 and completed graduate work at the State University at Albany.
Mr. Castelli also had study fellowships at the University of Maine and the University of Santa Clara and earned an associate's degree from the University of London.
He taught for the Schenectady City Schools at Oneida and McKinley middle schools and coached junior varsity basketball at Mont Pleasant High School.
He also taught American history at Shaker High School for more than 20 years.
Mr. Castelli played World Team Tennis in three national tournaments.
During the Korean War, he served in Germany with the Army's First Medical Battalion.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Schenectady.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Tibone Castelli, whom he married June 20, 1959; a daughter, Michelle Clancy of Holliston, Mass.; a son, John James Castelli of Huntington; a brother, Vincent Castelli of Schenectady; a sister, Theresa Napolitana of Schenectady; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union and North Jay streets, Schenectady, and at 9 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Richard M. Simmons, 45, was counselor to disabled
SCHENECTADY - Richard M. Simmons, 45, of Hawk Street, died at home Friday after a short illness.
Mr. Simmons was born in San Bernardino, Calif.
He was a lifelong resident of the Capital Region and a graduate of Schenectady schools.
Mr. Simmons was a counselor for ARC in Albany until becoming ill.
Survivors include his parents, Le Roy and Gloria Dean Simmons; four brothers, Anthony Simmons, Jay Simmons, Duke Simmons and Christopher Simmons; three sisters, Gloria Smith, Vicky Hundley Simmons and Lisa Simmons; and his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Dean.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State St., where a calling hour will begin at 6.
Cremation will take place at the Parkview Crematory.
