Stephen Butler, co-owner of the Butler Dairy Farm
BALLSTON SPA - Stephen Dudley Butler, 84, of Highland Drive, died Friday at home after a long illness.
Born in Stillwater, Mr. Butler was reared in Willow Glen and was a 1933 graduate of Ballston Spa High School. He was a lifelong area resident.
During World War II, he served with the Army transportation corps.
Mr. Butler and his brother were proprietors of the Butler Dairy Farm in Mechanicville from 1946 until retiring in 1975.
He was a member of Ballston Spa United Methodist Church since 1926 and a former chair of the trustees.
Mr. Butler was also a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge for more than 40 years and a past master; a member of the Royal Arch Masons Warren Chapter for more than 30 years and a past high priest; and a member of Order of the Shriners Oriental Temple.
He was a founding member of Cub Scout Pack 1 and a former member of Boy Scout Troop 1; former member of the Ballston Spa Village Cemetery board; and a member of the 70-Plus Ski Club who skied until this past February.
Survivors include his wife, Eldonna "Toni" Heath Butler, whom he married June 27, 1942; a daughter, Alicia Butler Todaro of Cohoes; two sons, Stephen C. Butler of South Glens Falls and Jeffrey A. Butler of Ballston Spa; a brother, Richard D. Butler of Mechanicville; two sisters, Gertrude Rennie of Gulf Port, Fla., and Marjorie Schoenecker of Sarasota, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Ballston Spa Village Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

nowlson was president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7411 and the Cootiettes in Albany and a former president of the Elks Auxiliary in Colonie. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist.
She was married to Walter T. Knowlson until his death.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Debra Stalker of Loudonville and Teresa Wright of Latham; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bryce Funeral Home, Pawling and Maple avenues. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Linda Rippel, ex-head of Sch'dy Human Rights Commission, 59
GLENVILLE - Mrs. Linda Shumate Rippel, 59, of Glenville, died Thursday at her summer residence in Lake George after a long illness.
Mrs. Rippel was born in McAlpin, W.Va., and raised in Sophia, W.Va. She came to Schenectady in 1960.
She was a graduate of Sophia High School, West Virginia University and the State University at Albany.
For more than 30 years, Mrs. Rippel was an advocate for individuals with disabilities and their families. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she and her husband were instrumental in planning and building the Clover Patch summer camp operated by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Schenectady County.
Mrs. Rippel was a co-founder and longtime board member of the Spina Bifida/Hydrocephalus Association.
She was a founder of the Parent Advisory Council for Special Education in the Schenectady School District and a co-founder of the Parent and Professional Special Education Advocacy Council Inc. (PPSEAC).
For many years, Mrs. Rippel was a planner of regional and statewide conferences on the topic of inclusive education for people with disabilities.
From 1982 to 1991, she served as a commissioner for the Human Rights Commission of Schenectady County. She also served on the Schoharie-Albany-Schenectady BOCES Advisory Council and was a member of the Family Support Services Consumer Advisory Board of the Capital District Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO).
Appointed by Gov. Cuomo in 1988, Mrs. Rippel was a member and past president (1993 to 1997) of the board of visitors of the O.D. Heck Developmental Center and the Capital District DDSO.
She played a major role in the founding of Parent To Parent, a support group for parents of children with disabilities, and secured funding through the state Office of Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities to open nine offices statewide, which she directed until becoming ill.
Mrs. Rippel was a member of the East Glenville Community Church.
Her husband, Robert Ross Rippel, Jr., died in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Rain Rippel of Scotia and Kate McCarthy of Clinton, N.J.; a son, Robert Ross Rippel III of Scotia; three sisters, Brenda Greene of Belding, Mich., Pamela Mancuso of Ocala, Fla., and Renee Edwards of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother, George Clinton Shumate of Towson, Md.; and a grandson.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the East Glenville Community Church, Route 50, Glenville. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., Schenectady.

`Bud' Kelly
WATERVLIET - Frank "Bud" Kelly, Jr., 76, of the Hilton Apartments on Fifth Street, formerly of Fifth Avenue and Colonial Green in Loudonville, died Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Mr. Kelly was born in Watervliet.
He retired in 1981 after 38 years with the Postal Service on New Karner Road in Albany, where he was a transporter.
In 1986, Mr. Kelly retired from the Albany County Nursing Home, where he had been a courier for 11 years.
At the time of his death, he had been a longtime assistant for wakes and funerals and a chauffeur for funerals for the J. Gregory Nealon & Son Funeral Home and the Nealon & Sanvidge Funeral Home, and a chauffeur for weddings.
Mr. Kelly had served on the board of commissioners of the Watervliet Housing Authority since 1978 and was a former vice-chairman of the board.
He was a communicant of St. Brigid's Church and a member of its Holy Name Society and Elks Lodge 1500.
He was married to Marion Kivlin Kelly until her death.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly A. Valente of Loudonville; two sisters, Mary Ashline of Watervliet and Helen Ashline of Menands; his friend, Grace Kennedy Golden of Watervliet; and a grandson.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nealon & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 611 Fourth Ave., and at 10 at St. Brigid's Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Barbara Poole
LOUDONVILLE - Mrs. Barbara B. Poole, 57, of Loudonville, died Friday at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a short illness.
Born in Albany, Mrs. Poole was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Angels Church choir and the church's Mothers' Club.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Robert H. Poole, Sr.; five sons, Robert H. Poole, Jr. of Latham, James M. Poole of Rexford, Joseph M. Poole of Loudonville, and Michael P. Poole and Daniel S. Poole, both of Colonie; two sisters, Shirley Parker of Wellsville, Allegany County, and Joan Garrison of Colonie; two brothers, John Guiry and Ronald Guiry, both of Colonie; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, and at 10 at Our Lady of Angels Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Bernice T. Phillips
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Bernice T. Phillips, 60, of West Main Street, died Friday at home.
Mrs. Phillips was born in New York City. She lived in Ohio and Virginia before moving to Amsterdam in 1983.
She was employed as a machine operator for T.P.I. Plastic USA.
Survivors include her husband, Norman T. Phillips, whom she married July 3, 1996; a son, William Wickert of Rock Creek, Ohio; a daughter, Deborah Switzer of Rock Creek; a sister, Lorna Moian of Wayne, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
A service is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Doris McMahon
ALBANY - Mrs. Doris Schultz McMahon of Albany died Friday at the Teresian House.
Mrs. McMahon was born in Potsdam and raised in Troy. She had lived in Albany since 1935.
She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy.
Mrs. McMahon was employed by the New York State Department of Labor as a clerk until retiring in 1975 after 20 years of service.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
She was the widow of William S. McMahon.
Survivors include a son, William F. McMahon of Albany; a sister, Helen F. Carey of Longmeadow, Mass.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., and at 9:30 at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Joseph J. Ruggeri
JOHNSTOWN - Joseph J. Ruggeri, 75, of Extension West Main Street, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken.
Mr. Ruggeri was born in Johnstown and educated in Johnstown schools.
For 40 years, he was a supervisor in the cutting department of the Johnstown Knitting Mills Inc., retiring in 1989.
Mr. Ruggeri was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 239 and a member of Eagles Aerie 1575 and Moose Lodge 1185, where he was a past governor and held a fellowship degree.
He also served on the board of the Johnstown Senior Citizens and was active in area bowling leagues.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Turo Ruggeri, whom he married Sept. 1, 1946; a son, Frank J. Ruggeri of Billerica, Mass.; a daughter, Ida Marie Ford of Fonda; three brothers, Frank Ruggeri of Ogdensburg, Anthony Ruggeri of Kingston and Charles Ruggeri of Smithtown, L.I.; a sister, Carmie Leotta Butler of Albany; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 at Immaculate Conception Church.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lewis Maietta
SCHENECTADY - Lewis Maietta, 84, of North Jay Street, died suddenly Friday at St. Clare's Hospital.
Mr. Maietta was born and educated in Schenectady.
For 22 years, he was employed as a mail handler by the Postal Service at the main post office in Schenectady.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Maietta served in the Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands.
His wife, Mary DeMarco Maietta, whom he married July 3, 1949, died in 1985.
Survivors include three nieces, June Attanasio and Maryellen Di Vinci, both of Schenectady, and Patty Dubb of Galway; and four nephews, John Santora and Sammy Mongrella, both of Schenectady, Charles Maietta of California and Richard Maietta of Ohio.
A service is set for noon Tuesday at the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union and North Jay streets. Entombment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery Mausoleum, Glenville.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
