B. GWENDOLYN HORN, 77 of 4192 A Bolivar Rd. passed away Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on April 24, 1927 in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Thomas J. and Ethel (Einifred) Turpin.
Gwen had been employed as a trust officer at the Bank of Miami in Miami, FL prior to moving to Wellsville in 1994. She is survived by her close friend of 20 years, Jack Hawley of Wellsville.
There will be no prior visitation and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial suggestions include the Alzheimers Association of WNY 2805 Wehrle Drive Suite 6 Williamsville, NY 14221-7380. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc.
Barbara Hirschler
Wellsville, NY
Barbara Hirschler, after a brief illness, entered peacefully into rest in the morning of October 25, 2003. She was predeceased by her father, Raymond and father-in-law, Pat. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Ron, sons Stephen [Kathy] and Christopher, mother Eleanor, mother-in-law, Rita, sister Nancy [Richard] Staley, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Barb was a long time member of St. John’s Church of Rochester and worked at Our Lady of Mercy High School for 14 years. Barb enjoyed helping Mercy Students pursue college careers in her role as Guidance Secretary. She is already sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass being held at St. John of Rochester Church in Perinton at 10:30am on Tuesday, October 28th.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church 5 Milton Street, Belmont, NY. At 11am on Saturday November 1st.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory may be sent to the Isaiah House, 71 Prince St., Rochester, NY, 14605 where Barb spent her last days. The Staff and volunteers couldn’t have been more caring and kept her pain free.
BARRY LEE ROHRABACHER
Wellsville, NY
BARRY LEE ROHRABACHER, 58 of 120 Maple Avenue passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born June 19, 1945 in Wellsville the son of Maynard and Dorothy (Minard) Rohrabacher.
He was a life long resident of Wellsville. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1963. He joined the US Navy in 1964 and served until 1968. At one time he was employed by the Village of Andover, overseeing the public utilities. He was also employed as a painter for several local painting contractors. He was a member of the Morrison Hayes Post #702 of the American Legion, the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, and the Frank B. Church Post # 2530 of the V.F.W. in Wellsville.
Barry is survived by 1 son: Eric Perry serving with the U.S. Army, 1 grandson: Blayne Perry in Ohio, 1 brother: Brent (Pamela) Rohrabacher, 2 sisters: Susan (Allen) Hunt of Petrolia, Marla Tronetti of Anthem, AZ, a dear friend and cousin David Sweet of Wellsville, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Lee Williams presiding. Burial will be in the Stannards Cemetery.
Beatrice C. Saltzer

Beatrice C. Saltzer, 81, formerly of 9116 Old State Road, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Wellsville Manor Care Center in Wellsville. She was born on March 29, 1922 in Angelica, NY, the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Burdick) Wilson. On December 1, 1942 in Olean, NY, she married Charles Saltzer who survives. She was a former resident of Tonawanda before moving back to Angelica.
She was a realtor for Hart Realty in Tonawanda. She also attended the Episcopal Church in Angelica.
She is also survived by her husband, Charles, two daughters; Suzanne (Richard) Beach of North Tonawanda and Sharon (Michael) Opera of Tonawanda, 2 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
There will be no prior visitation and funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Dawn Barrett will preside at the funeral.
BERTINA E. (BURDICK) KNIGHT

BERTINA E. (BURDICK) KNIGHT, 95 of 4192A Bolivar Road passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born September 11, 1909 in Alfred the daughter of Elwin and Mildred (Tucker) Burdick. On May 21, 1931 in Belmont she married George A. Knight, who predeceased her September 11, 1974.
Bertina was employed by Hurd’s Grocery and Newberry’s Mercantile both in Wellsville. She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Twig and the Wellsville Senior Citizen Band. She was also a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wellsville.
Bertina is survived by 2 sons: George W. (Mary Lou) Knight of Venice, FL, and Richard (Janet) Knight of Wellsville; 3 grandchildren, Pam [Paul] Pittman, George [Lana] Knight and Kristin Knight; 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister: Marcella Allen, and 2 brothers: Donald Burdick and Randall “Sam” Burdick.
Friends are invited to call on Friday from 11 am to 1 pm at J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Michael Brady presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorials may be made to the Wellsville Manor Activities Department.
BESSIE E. TAYLOR
Alma
BESSIE E. TAYLOR, age 98 of County Road 18, Alma passed away on Thursday March 10, 2005 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born December 24, 1906 in Shinglehouse, PA the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Sherwood) Harrington. In August of 1927 in Alma, she married Isaac Taylor Sr. who predeceased her on October 1, 1982.
Bessie was a life long resident of Alma, and a former member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Alma and the Alma Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and washing dishes, but most of all she loved her family and had great concern for others.
Bessie is survived by 2 sons: Isaac (Doris Mitchell) Taylor Jr. of Richburg, Phillip (Norma) Taylor of Allentown; a daughter: Elizabeth (James) Grossman of Andover, 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and a sister Mildred Yeager of Shinglehouse, PA., as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Dorothy McCoy, a brother: Charles Harrington, and 3 sisters: Ava, Lillian, and Lina.

Carl J. Nelson

Carl J. Nelson, 73 of 2871 Sheridan Avenue died Thursday August 28, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo. He was born December 20, 1929 in Elmira, the son of Carl J. and Catherine (Nichols) Nelson. Carl was raised in Elmira and had resided in Wellsburg, NY prior to moving to Wellsville in 1980. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operation. He was a graduate of Elmira Community College and Cornell University. He was employed as a Electrical and Mechanical Design Engineer for American La France of Elmira, Corning Glass, Inficon Corp. and Carrier Corp. both of Syracuse, he retired in 1994. From 1998 until his death he was the administrator and a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601, a member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW in Wellsville, the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495 and the John P. Eaton Post American Legion in Corning.
He is survived by 5 children; Kathy Mausfield of Arlington, TX., Deborah Nelson of Dallas, TX., Edward Nelson of Elmira, Sylvia Rogers of Leroy, NY and Weston Rogers of Wellsville. 6 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandson, 4 sisters; Marjorie Branson of Oregon, Nancy Stewart of Ovid, NY, Dana Nelson of Cocoa, Fl., and Kay Martinelli of Cocoa Beach, FL., his fiancé’ Elaine Carrow of Wellsville, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by a brother; Robert Nelson.
