Conrad F. Stark
Wellsville, NY
Conrad F. Stark, formerly of 458 S. Main Street, passed away on January 6, 2004 at the home of his son Paul in Olean, NY. He was born on May 6, 1910 in Mount Vernon, NY the son of Frank and Katherine (Reich) Stark. On April 12, 1941 in St. Vincent DePaul’s Church in New York City he married Eunice Seabott who predeceased him on October 1, 1969.
Conrad graduated from New York University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served with the Merchant Marines from 1941 to 1945. He was employed by Air Preheater from 1946 to 1968, at first in New York City then transferring to Wellsville in 1948. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion in Wellsville and a longtime member of the Wellsville Country Club. He was an avid golfer, sports fan, and skilled woodworker.
He is survived by 3 sons: Paul (Bonnie) Stark of Olean, NY, Timothy Stark of Lowell, MA, Peter (Rose) Stark of Ashville, NY; 4 Grandchildren: Michael (Cheryl) Ligus of Rochester, NY, Carolyn Ligus of Rochester, NY, Paul Stark Jr. of Guilderland, NY, Andrew Stark of Virginia Beach, VA; and 4 great-grandchildren: Krystal, Alysia, Cory, and Brent Ligus of Rochester, NY.
In addition to his wife, Conrad is predeceased by his parents, brother Michael Stark; sister Catherine Stark; 1 daughter: Kathryn Stark Ligus; and 1 grandson: Brian Ligus.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, January 8, 2004 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. A prayer will be held on Friday at 10:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Rev. Dennis Mancuso as celebrant. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jones Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund or Homecare and Hospice (1225 W. State Street Olean, NY 14760).

COBERN E. McGRAW
Alfred, NY
COBERN E. McGRAW, 83, of 50 High Street in Alfred, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born September 8, 1920 in the town of West Union, the son of Frank and Anna (English) McGraw. On June 30, 1945 he married Francelia Foster, who survives.
He graduated from Whitesville High School in 1940 and Alfred State College in 1942. Cobern started the maintenance program at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred, and retired in May of 1983 as maintenance supervisor after 36 years of service. During those years, he repaired televisions as a hobby. One of his great sources of enjoyment was gardening. He was known for his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens especially when he and Fran lived on Route 21. He also loved bowling, woodworking, camping, and singing with the Maple City Barbershop Chorus for over 30 years.
Cobern will be fondly remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man who quietly went about his business in a soft-spoken and dependable way, with a ready sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 sons: Gene (Maritza) McGraw of Stratford, CT, Roger (Sandra) McGraw of Alfred, and Larry McGraw of Alfred, 2 daughters: Linda (Larry) Belanger of Spartanburg, SC, Connie McGraw of Hornell, 8 grandchildren: Craig and Sean Belanger, Aaron, Andrew, Summer, Joshua, Connor, and Lauren McGraw, and 2 great-grandchildren: Mia and Lucas McGraw.
He was predeceased by a brother: Harold McGraw, and 3 sisters: Gladys Clark, Bernice Matteson, and Vera Bowles.
Friends are invited to call from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Saturday, July 24th at 2:00 pm in the Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church, with Rev. Patricia Bancroft presiding. Burial will be in the Alfred Rural Cemetery. Memorial suggestions include the Alfred Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Clifford F. Winterhalter
Belmont, NY
Clifford F. Winterhalter, 83, of 5051 State Route 244, passed away January 9, 2004 in his home. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Pittsburg, PA, the son of Fredrick and Pearl (Rogers) Winterhalter. On November 21, 1940 he married Marie Coleman who predeceased him. On May 18, 1996 in Belmont he married Doris C. Miller who survives.
Clifford was a graduate of Belmont High School in 1938. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy serving from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater of Operation. He worked all his life in the family business, William Laidlaw Inc. in Belmont retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Belmont, a 59 year life member and past Commander of the Herbert DeLong post 808 American Legion in Belmont, member and past Chef De Gare of the Allegany County 40 & 8. He was also a life member and past Chief of the Belmont Fire Department where he had served for 62 years and was an avid bowler at Community Lanes in Belmont.
In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by 2 daughters: Lynn (Robert) Manning of Belmont, Sue (Thomas) Underwood of Corfu, NY; 4 stepdaughters: Bev (George) Krach of Baltimore, MD, Alice Meyers of Andover, Betty (James) Deck of Wellsville, and Diane Rosati of Bolivar; 3 granddaughters: Erin Manning and Kayla and Leah Underwood; 11 step grandchildren, 23 step great grandchildren, and 1 step great - great grandson; 2 brothers: Ernest (Pat) Winterhalter and John (Helen) Winterhalter of Belmont; 3 sisters: Doris Dunbar of Rochester, Estelle (Richard) Saunders of Hamburg, and Enid Sweet of West Seneca; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a stepdaughter Pricilla Perry, 2 brothers: Fredrick Jr. and Leon Winterhalter, and a sister Mildred Winterhalter.
Friends are invited to call on SUNDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in BELMONT. There will be a prayer service on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 10:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Mary’s Church, Belmont with Father Dennis Mancuso as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggestions include the Amity Rescue Squad or Home Care & Hospice.

Charles W. “Chip” Hebblethwaite Jr.
Belmont, NY
Charles W. “Chip” Hebblethwaite Jr., 45, of 5777 Tuckers Corners Road, died Friday July 2, 2004 at the Erie County Medical Center from injuries sustained in a motorcycle/deer accident. He was born October 18, 1958 in Wellsville the son of Charles W. and Eleanor (Smith) Hebblethwaite Sr. On October 13, 1984 in Belmont he married Dawn Cline who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Belmont, attending Belmont Central School through the 11th grade and was a Scio Central School graduate in 1977. He was first employed by Manning’s Grocery in Belmont, and was an employee of the Belmont Post Office for 26 years where he served as a city letter carrier. Most recently he was the temporary Postmaster for Rexville, NY
Chip was a member and Deacon of the Angelica Bible Church and a drummer for their praise team. He was a former member of the Belmont Fire Department, a past President of the Herbert DeLong Post #808 Sons of the American Legion in Belmont, and a life member of the NRA. He was an avid hunter and mechanic who loved to work in his shop. He also enjoyed music, his praise team band, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and was a loving husband and father.
In addition to his parents and wife Dawn, Chip is survived by a son: Adam C. Hebblethwaite; a daughter: Cara D. Hebblethwaite both at home; 4 sisters: Linda (Jordan) Melick of Englewood, CO; Sue (John) Hausman of Olean, NY; Ellen (Jack) Donovan of Arkport, NY; Nancy Root of Belmont; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and was a beloved son in law and brother in law.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in BELMONT. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 6 at 11:00 am at the Houghton Academy South Campus (the former Angelica School) with Rev. Mark Chamberlain presiding. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Belmont. Memorial suggestions include the Angelica Bible Church Praise Team (5993 County Route 16, Belfast, NY 14711).

DEBORAH M. ALLEN
Wellsville, NY
DEBORAH M. ALLEN, 50, of 340 S. Main Street passed away at home on Sunday March 21, 2004. She was born December 27, 1953 in Wellsville the daughter of Richard and Dawn (Gorton) Plaisted. On July 2, 1972 in Whitesville she married Eugene Allen who survives.
Deborah was raised in Whitesville and had lived in Germany for 8 years before moving to Wellsville. She was a graduate of Whitesville High School, was a former employee of K-Mart in Wellsville and a former member of the Alma Fire Department.
Other survivors include a son, Cory E. Allen and his fiancée Melissa Davis of Rochester, a brother, Jay (Bonnie) Plaisted of Arkport as well as several aunts & uncles and nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, April L. Allen on July 17, 2003.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Thursday March 25, 2004 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Morgan presiding. Burial will be in North Bingham Cemetery and memorial suggestions include The Burns Home Activities Fund % 340 S. Main Street Wellsville, NY 14895.

DELA B. CAMPBELL
Belmont, NY
DELA B. CAMPBELL, 86, formerly of 29 Trianna Street passed away on Friday February 20, 2004 at Manor Hills in Wellsville. She was born March 21, 1917 in Merrill, Wisconsin the daughter of Julius and Ida (Krueger) Pagel. On November 5, 1939 in Merrill, Wisconsin she married Sherman Keesler who predeceased her on July 17, 1955. On December 26, 1959 she married Ronald H. Campbell who predeceased her on July 6, 1980. Dela was a former resident of Shinglehouse, PA and moved to Belmont in 1959.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Dolores (Ray) Wetherby of Belmont, 1 son Sherman (Kathy) Keesler of Mount Morris, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Elivala Stump of O’Fallon, Missouri and Mildred Krueger of Merrill, Wisconsin, as well as several nieces & Nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Keesler in 1969 and by several brothers & sisters.
Friends are invited to call on Monday February 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in BELMONT, The funeral will follow visitation at 3:00 pm Monday in the funeral home. Pastor Mark Chamberlain will preside at the service. Burial will be Fairmont Cemetery in Smethport, PA and memorial suggestions include the Amity Rescue Squad.
