DORIS L. SANFORD, 80, of 8 Trianna Street passed away Saturday May 1, 2004 at her home. She was born January 4, 1924 in Belmont, the daughter of Parker J. and Ada (Lanphear) Lewis. She was first married February 2, 1947 to Harold A. Lowe who predeceased her on March 13, 1954. In 1972 she married Leroy Sanford who predeceased her on November 17, 1974.
Doris was a graduate of Belmont High School and had attended business school in Buffalo.
She was a secretary and bookkeeper in the Belmont area for many years. She had been employed at the Allegany County Clerk’s Office and had served as Belmont Village Clerk. In later years, she worker for Allegany County BOCES in child care.
She was a member of the Herbert DeLong Post 808 American Legion Auxiliary, the Belmont Fire Department Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother.
She is survived by 1 daughter; Deborah (John) Biancuzzo of Belmont, 2 sons; Steven Lowe of Belmont and David Lowe of Boston, MA, 8 Grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by a daughter; Cathryn Lowe Ingalls on October 5, 1975 and her sister; Edith L. Olmstead on October 19, 2002.
At Doris’s request there will be no prior visitation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont and memorial suggestions include the Amity Rescue Squad.
Wellsville, NY
Dorothea M. Beckwith, of The Colony Park Apartments, died on Sunday September 21, 2003 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born May 10, 1930 in the Town of Cuba, the daughter of Leslie and Mildred (Scott) Layman. On November 14, 1948 in Wellsville, she married Harrison J. Beckwith who predeceased her on July 15, 1995.
Dorothea was a former long time resident of Wellsville, had also lived in Angelica and Belmont before recently moving back to Wellsville. She was a former employee of the Texas Hot, The Wellsville Manor Care Center, Jones Memorial Hospital all of Wellsville and Acme Electric in Cuba. She was a member of the Angelica Bible Church and a former member of the Birdsall Grange.
She is survived by 3 Sons, Donald (Karen) Beckwith of Angelica, Ronald (Sharon) Beckwith and Michael (Patti) Beckwith both of Wellsville. 10 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 2 Brothers, Thomas Layman of Belmont, Lyle (Shirley) Layman of Arizona, 2 sisters, Juanita (Gerald) Learn of Salamanca and Naomi (Dick) Fairchild of Rochester. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn Beckwith.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Wednesday September 24th at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Mark Chamberlain presiding. Interment will be in the Until The Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica and memorial suggestions include the Allegany County Chapter of the American Red Cross or the Jones Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund.
Wellsville, NY
Dorothy H. Brocking, a former longtime resident of White Plains, New York and currently residing at 46 ½ Wheeler Place, Wellsville, New York died on September 26, 2003 at the age of 97 at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville.
Miss Brocking was born on December 28, 1905 in White Plains, New York to August and Sophie Von Glahn Brocking. She cared for her mother for many years and work in sales for Oppenheim Collins and Slaons Furniture. She also managed a hat store for a period of time. Miss Brocking was a life member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in White Plains, a church of which her father was a charter member. She taught Sunday School for 42 years and sang in the choir.
Miss Brocking was predeceased by a brother, Harry Brocking and a sister, Marguerite [Stephen] Dombrowsky. She is survived by a niece, Senta [Alpheus] Streeter of Wellsville, New York, a nephew Donald [Lila] Dombrowsky of St. Augustine, Florida, a nephew Bobby [Joy] Brocking and a niece, Ruth Brocking; grand nieces and nephews - especially Donna [Alfred] Perecca and Stephen Dombrowsky all of Spring Valley, New York.
Services will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 3 Carhart Ave., White Plains, New York 10605-1495 on Saturday October 4 at 11am. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in lieu of floral tributes. Funeral arrangements were made by the J.W. Embser & Sons Funeral home in Wellsville, New York.
Coudersport, PA
Dorothy I. Kapp, 97, of Coudersport died Friday, August 8, 2003 at the Long Term Care Facility of Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, PA. She was born June 1, 1906 in Geneseo, NY the daughter of Bertrum and Dora (Roberts) Stocking. She had been married to Lewis E. Greenman, Charles Shelley, and Gerald Kapp who all predeceased her.
Dorothy was raised in the Wellsville area and was a former resident of Burkeville, TX, and Roulette, PA before moving to Coudersport.
She is survived by 7 children; Lewis (Donna) Greenman Jr. of Port Allegany, Agnes (Bernard) LaBar of Coudersport, Martha Feick of Friendship, Bert (Betty) Greenman of Shinglehouse, Edith “Dolly” (Clair) Meyer of Wellsville, Merle “Bucky” (Sandra) Greenman of Wellsville, Keith (Gloria) Shelley of Athens, TX, 41 grandchildren, 153 great and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her spouses, Dorothy was predeceased by 1 daughter; Ilah, 3 sons; George, Frank, Laverne, 1 sister; Edith Ellsworth, and 2 brothers; George and Frank Stocking.
Friends are invited to call from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville, where the funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 with Rev. Ross Martin presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorials may be made to the Coudersport Fire Department or to the Frank B. Church Post #2530 V.F.W. in Wellsville.

E. Ann Cretekos, of 33 Highland Place, passed away on Tuesday December 30, 2003 at her home. She was born on December 11,1927 in Syracuse to Edgar and Elsie Peterson Forman. On August 22, 1954 in Wellsville she married James G. Cretekos who survives her.
Ann graduated from Cornell University in 1949 and came to Wellsville to teach home economics in the Wellsville Central School System. She received her masters degree from Alfred University and retired from Wellsville Central in the early 1980’s.
Ann was a member of the Lady Elks, enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and most of all loved her family.
Surviving beside her husband: 2 sons George [Jolene] Cretekos of Farmington; Gregory Cretekos of Plymouth, MA.; 3 daughters Stacey [Michael Gross] Cretekos of Congers; Cynthia [Doug] Young of Malta; Karen [Mark Buckhaulter] Cretekos of MoutainView, CA.; 9 grandchildren:2 brothers Ken [Janet] Forman and Alan [Roberta] Forman; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call in the J.W. Embser Sons F.H. in Wellsville on Thursday January 1, 2004 from 6-9pm. A Funeral service will be held on Friday January 2 at 2pm in St. Johns Episcopal Church in Wellsville with Rev. R. Nicholas Rafael presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery and Memorials may be made to the Allegany County United Way.

EDNA E. WEINMAN, 94, of 39 South Broad Street passed away on July 4, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born December 24, 1909 in Friendship, NY the daughter of Dean and Evelyn (Graham) Hanks. On September 10, 1932 in Wellsville, she married Marshall “Skip” Weinman who predeceased her in August 17, 1993.
She graduated from Friendship High School at age 16 and from the Brockport State Teachers College at 18. She taught in the Elmira area until her marriage and then moved to Wellsville to raise her family. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Lady Elks #1495 of Wellsville. Edna also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
Edna is survived by 2 sons: Donald Weinman of Greenwood, SC; James (Barbara) Weinman of Huntington Station, NY; a daughter: Janet Jinske of Liverpool, NY; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother: Frederick Hanks of Friendship; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother: Donald Hanks; and 2 sisters: Dorothy Hollod, and Marion Dudley.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 7 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Vatter presiding. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
