Helen Agnes Connor

Helen Agnes Connor, of Avoca, entered eternal rest surrounded by loving family and her wonderful caretakers at Taylor Health Center in Bath on November 19, 2003. Helen was born in Scio on May 18, 1920 the daughter of the late Terrence and Mary Lewis O’Brien.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years James W. Connor and their children Michael [Colleen [Connor of Dover, OH.; Reverend Patrick Connor of Elmira; Brian [Belinda] Connor of Cohocton and daughter in law Donna [Mark] Connor of Florida; grandchildren: Jessica [Scott [Crammer of Michigan; Matthew, Andrew and Thomas Connor of Dover, OH.; Charles [Pam Cragg] and Sean Connor of Cohocton.; Sisters Rachel McGarrity of Derby and Bess Mulligan of Belmont; brother Frank O’Brien of Scio and a sister in law Gert O’Brien of Wellsville; in addition to her grandchildren she had many nieces and nephews that loved her very much. Helen was predeceased by her son Mark Connor; sisters Josephine Jago and Alice Keenan; and brother Matthew O’Brien; her mother-in-law Anna [Nana] Dentlinger Connor at age 101 to whom she was very dedicated to.
Before her sickness of Alzheimer’s disease Helen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Bath and a member of the choir, St. James Hospital Gift Shop in Hornell and St. James Hospital Auxiliary Ladies Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels in Hornell. She not only had many friends in the area but in Lackawanna where she had been a member of the Choir of Our Lady of Victory Basilica. Helen was noted for her beautiful singing voice, sense of humor, lemon meringue pie, coleslaw, manhattans and card games. Helen was a beautiful woman who spread happiness and warmth everywhere she went and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at St. Joseph’s Church in Scio from 10 to 11am on Monday November 24th . A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am with her son Father Patrick Connor presiding. A private burial will held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ss Peter and Paul Parish Center Building Fund, 161 High Street, Elmira, NY. 14901. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser & Sons F.H. in Wellsville.
Helen E. Bigelow

Helen E. Bigelow, of 4192 A Bolivar Road, passed away on Sunday December 14, 2003 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on March 5, 1917 in Forest City, PA the daughter of Anthony and Stephania (Dziublinski) Zebrowski. On April 28, 1945 in Forest City, PA she married Vincent W. Bigelow who predeceased her in May of 1993.
Helen was a former 39 year resident of Genesee, PA and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Genesee, PA.
She is survived by 2 sons: Walter (Phyllis) Gettsey of Seattle, WA; James (Cynthia) Bigelow of Canisteo, NY and 1 daughter: Juliana Jordan of Merrick, NY. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 brother: Walter Zebrowski of Binghamton, NY; 1 sister: Lottie Smith of Borger, TX; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday December 17, 2003 from noon to 2:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm. in the Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Kinney, PA. Memorial suggestions include the Sacred Heart Church in Genesee, PA.
HELEN M. RAUBER

HELEN M. RAUBER, 79, of 2102 Latta Road passed away Sunday February 8, 2004 at the Latta Road A Nursing Home. She was born on July 23, 1924 in Wellsville, NY the daughter of Stephen and Mary Helena (McHale) Rauber.
She was raised and formerly resided in Wellsville, was a former employee of General Motors Delco Products of Rochester, and a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church of Greece.
Helen is survived by several nieces and nephews including Judith (George) Dennis of Webster, NY, Janice Cromer of Novoto, CA, and James (Joan) Fleming of Rochester and several cousins. She was predeceased by a cousin: William Donovan of Wellsville.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Rev. Dennis Mancuso as celebrant. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the Immaculate Conception Church Memorial Fund.
HELEN NEWMAN TAYLOR

HELEN NEWMAN TAYLOR, 78, of 104 Miller Street passed away Thursday, September 09, 2004 at Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville. She was born October 9, 1925 in Bradford, PA the daughter of Floyd and Lillian (Moore) Newman. On March 16, 1946 she married Leon Taylor who predeceased her July 28, 1971.
Helen graduated from Scio Central School in 1944 and Western Union School in Washington, NJ in 1944. She was employed by Western Union from 1944 – 1948 and Beltone Hearing Services from 1971 – 1944 both in Wellsville. She was a member of the First Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. She was also the secretary for the Taylor Reunion for many years.
Helen is survived by 3 daughters: Judy (Tom) Brainard of Elm Valley, Pat Taylor of Wellsville, Deborah (Paul) Vossler of Wellsville; 4 grandchildren: Kelly (Charles) Miles, Stephen Vossler, Andrea Vossler and Matt Vossler; 2 great grand children: Linden and Nathan Miles; 1 sister: Rowena Traver, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
Friends are invited to call on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville, and Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the First Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville. The funeral service will follow visitation on Saturday, September 11 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Robert Morris presiding. Burial will be in the First Burial Ground in Rushford. Memorial suggestions include the First Trinity Lutheran Church.
HELEN SCHEN

HELEN SCHEN, 80, of Hallsport Road passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born on November 14, 1923 in Holland, NY the daughter of Vincent and Katherine Pawlak. On July 19, 1947 in Olean she married Harold Schen who survives.
She graduated from the first cadet nursing program at Alfred University during World War II. She was an RN and retired from Jones Memorial Hospital after 27 years of service. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons: David Schen of Mt. Layton, VT, Michael Schen of North Potomac, MD; 2 daughters: Judith (Daniel) Flanagan of Provo, UT, Julie (James) Gish of Vancouver, WA; 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her stepbrothers and sisters.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and Jones Memorial Hospital.
HOWARD D. HERKE
Wellsville, NY
HOWARD D. HERKE, 83, of 76 Hills Street, passed away on Monday September 20, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born May 26, 1921 in Scio the son of Albert H. and Hilda (Dornow) Herke. On February 19, 1949 in Nunda he married Dorothy Goldthwait who survives.
Howard was a self employed carpenter until 1956 when started his career with Worthington Corporation in Wellsville. He retired in 1983. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Trinity Senior Citizens. He and his family enjoyed camping and belonged to the Holiday Rambler Trailer Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife Dorothy are 2 daughters, Joan M. (Stephen) Ball of Scio and Janet A. (Terry) Vossler of Butler, PA 7 grandchildren, Bradley & Elizabeth Ball, Christopher, Heather & Matthew Schroeder and Katrina & Michael Vossler, 2 brothers Earl Herke of Mount Morris and Ralph (Marilyn) Herke of Lima, 2 sisters, Mildred Potter of Scio and Maxine (Gene) Latham of Belmont, as well as 17 nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Eleanor Chapman and Marian Linza.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday September 22nd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 470 N. Main Street in Wellsville. The Funeral will follow visitation at 1:00 pm in Church with Rev. Robert Morris presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio and memorial suggestions include the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Trinity Pre-School and the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
