DANIEL R. JOHNSON
CUBA - Daniel R. Johnson of 7127 V2 Lyndon Center Road, Box 132, died Thursday (July 12, 2001) at Cuba Memorial Hospital's Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
Born Sept. 6, 1917, in West Bingham, Pa., he was a son of Daniel Rufus and Helen Shutt Johnson. He married Mildred Leona Carpenter, who died June 16, 1979. On Dec. 23, 1989, he married Dorothy Williams, who survives.
Mr. Johnson has lived in Cuba since the early 1980s, moving from the Coudersport, Pa., area.
He was employed as a farmer for the E.S. O'Meara estate in Bradford, Pa., retiring in 1978.
He attended Black Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Margie (Ted) Kurtz of Lakeland, Fla.; five stepsons, George Johnson of Chesapeake, Va., Loren (Nancy) Weatherley, Burton (Donna) Weatherly, Jesse (Cathy) Dewe and Mike (Tina) Dewe, all of Cuba; two step-daughters, Katie Dewe of Bradford and Dede (Mark) Hillard of Sanger, Texas; several grandehildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Mary) Johnson of Scio; two sisters, Mary Nickelson of Coudersport and Elnora Knauer of Roulette, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday (July 15, 2001) at McIntosh Funeral Home - Nicholson Chapel, 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. Funeral services will be held Monday (July 16, 2001) at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Martin C. Hotchkiss, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church, officiated.
Burial was in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville, PA.

FLOYD L. JONES
OBI - Floyd L. Jones of 2029 Route 305 died Wednesday (July 11, 2001) at the Waters of Allegany Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born July 27, 1928, in Corry, Pa, he was a son of Ralph and Martha Hart Jones. On Dec. 31, 1949, in Obi, he married the former Mary Belle Jordan, who survives.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Jones was an employee of Acme Electric Corp. in Cuba for 41 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member and faithful servant of the Obi Community Church and served as usher for 44 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, Bruce (Lene) Jones of Richburg and Jeffrey (Debbie) Jones of Clarksville; a daughter, Carol (Lester) Baker Sr. of West Clarksville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (Thelma) Jones of Duncansville, Pa., and Alfred (Nancy) Jones of Hinsdale; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held Friday (July 13, 2001) at 11 a.m. at the Obi Community Church. The Rev. David Wood, pastor, officiated. Burial was in West Genesee Cemetery in Obi.
Memorials may be made to the Obi Community Church.
NADINE KANE
BELMONT - Nadine Kane, 88, of Route 19, Scio Belmont Road, died Tuesday (July 10, 2001), at home with her famuly following a long illness.
Born in Willspoint, Texas, on April 1, 1913, she was the daughter of David 0. and Clemetine (Clements) Teel.
On Feb. 14, 1947, in Dallas, Tex., she married Francis H. Kane, who died Sept. 30, 1987.
Mrs. Kane owned and managed the Shangri-La Lounge for many years until it closed in 1984.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Kane and Dale (Eileen) Kane, both of Belmont, and Donald (Gertrude) Kane of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, David Teel of Willspoint; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters.
A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Memorials may be made to Comstock Hospice Care Network or Amity Rescue Squad.
WADE W. LEWIS SR.
BOLIVAR - Wade W. Lewis Sr. of 123 Friendship St., died Monday (July 16, 2001) in Olean General Hospital afier a short illness. Born Feb. 13, 1931, in Bradfod, Pa, he was a son of the late Ernest and Rena Van Curen Lewis.
He had lived in Alaska, Florida, and Virginia Beach, Va. He returned to Portville in 1988 and for the last three years had lived in Bolivar.
Mr. Lewis had worked for the Buckeye Pipeline, Rich and Co. and worked as a landscaper in Florida.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Haynes of Bolivar, Rena (Steven) Bedow and Shirley Shreve, both of Friendship; a son, Wade “Skeeter” Lewis Jr. of Bellingham, Wash.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Alveretta (Larry) LaPierre of Portville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dale Lewis; and three sisters, Dortha Zeromsky, Velma Cleghorn and Doris McLaughlin.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home in Olean.
JOHN G. MATTEY
BELMONT - John G Mattey, 84, of 6154 Klinebeck Road died Tuesday (July 10, 2001) at Wellsville Manor Care Center.
Born March 28, 1917, in Nanticoke, Pa., he was the son of John and Elizabeth Brendza Mattey. On July 5, 1956, in Frederick, Md., he married the former Louise Popham, who died May 17, 1988.
Mr. Mattey served with the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime employee of the Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls. Mr. Mattey was a member of the Herbert Delong American Legion Post 808 in Belmont.
Surviving are two sisters, Irene (Abe) Jacobs of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Mary Ziontz of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; two nephews, Sam and Don Jacobs; a niece, Carole Matsumoto; and special friends, the Lois Hale family.
There was no visitation. Friends attended a graveside service Saturday (July 14, 2001) at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont. The Rev. Edward Joseph officiated.
Memorials may be made to the Amity Rescue Squad. Arrangements were under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., Belmont.
RICHARD S. `DICK' MUCCI
ANGELICA - Richard S. Mucci, 51, of 2 East Main Street, Angelica, passed away, Sunday (July 15, 2001) unexpectedly at Sisters Hospital in Buffalo.
Born Sept. 16, 1949 in Buffalo, he was the son of Richard and Laura Suffoletta Mucci.
Richard had lived in Buffalo and Florida before deciding to make Angelica his permanent home in 1999.
He attended the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Angelica Lions Club. He was instrumental in founding the Auto Body Association in Florida and was an avid supporter of the National Down Syndrome Society.
He was well known for his talented carpentry and was an active Angelica resident. Richard and his wife Jane recently renovated and opened the Park Circle Bed and Breakfast.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jane Mucci are his mother, Laura Suffoletta Mucci; are one son, Richard Joseph Mucci of Angelica; one step-son, Mark J. (Janamarie) Tylenda of Texas; one sister, Sabina J. Leonard, one grandchild, Ashley Tylenda; three sister-in-laws, Anne Tylenda, Marie “Bunny” (Robert) Husted, and Victoria Miecyjak and her fiance Chor Wong; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends were received Wednesday, July 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown and Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Avenue; Angelica, NY Funeral Services were held Thursday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial followed in the Until the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica.
