PAUL J. MARIOTTI
Wellsville, NY
PAUL J. MARIOTTI, 46, of 4192B Bolivar Road, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Manor Hills Adult Care Facility. He was born on April 29, 1958 in Wellsville, the son of Siegfried and Caroline (Schramm) Mariotti.
Paul was a former resident of Farnum Street, and was a 1979 graduate of Wellsville High School. He worked for many years with the PWI/ARC in Wellsville, and was a member of the advocate group called VOICE. He accompanied the group on several educational trips to Albany, and loved traveling with Peoples and Places to many locations including Acapulco, Mexico. Paul participated in the Special Olympics, and attended Brookside Wesleyan Church.
He loved skating, music, walking, dancing, socializing with people, and watching the cooking show Emeril Live. Paul will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Paul is survived by his mother, 2 brothers: James Mariotti of Raleigh, NC, Joseph (Kera) Mariotti of Wellsville, 2 sisters: Lisa (Thomas) Lee of Hemlock, Beth (Daniel) Cooke of Honeoye Falls, 5 nieces, several cousins, and 1 uncle. He was predeceased by his father in 1989, and a brother: Tony “Zig” Mariotti in 2003.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 29 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Carol Schweigart presiding. Burial will be in the Genesee Cemetery in Genesee, PA. Memorial suggestions include the American Heart Association.

PAUL W. STEVENS, JR.
Wellsville, NY
PAUL W. STEVENS, JR., 72, of 1200 Alma Hill Road, passed away unexpectedly June 25, 2004 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born July 3, 1931 in Wellsville the son of Paul W. Sr. and Margaret (Hull) Stevens. On April 29, 1972 in Wellsville he married Alice A. Vossler who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Wellsville, attending Wellsville High School with the class of 1949. He served in the U. S. Air Force in Korea in 1952. He was a former employee of Sinclair Refinery, Scoville and Brown, and Long View. He was a patrolman for the Wellsville Police Department and was a New York State Trooper from 1962-1979. He also served as an Allegany County Legislator in 1994.
Paul was a member of the 18th Fighter-Bomber Wing Association, Wellsville Elks Lodge #1495, Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, Morrison Hayes Post #702 American Legion, the National Rifle Association, the Association of Former New York State Police, and a life member of the Wellsville Country Club. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife Alice he is survived by a son: Paul (Karen) Stevens III of Arkport, 2 grandchildren: Alexis and Zachary Stevens of West Virginia; 2 sisters: Carol Erwin of Wellsville and Patricia Brown of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral service with military honors will be on Tuesday June 29th at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Robert Morris presiding. Memorial suggestions include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the American Legion Post # 702 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

PHYLLIS M. DICKERSON
Wellsville, NY
PHYLLIS M. DICKERSON, 75, of 38 N. Highland Avenue passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born February 29, 1928 in Alma the daughter of Lawrence “Clyde” and Iva (Messler) Shields. On September 7, 1946 in Alma she married Orville T. Dickerson who predeceased her on August 12, 1984.
Phyllis was a long time resident of Alma and had attended school in Alma and Wellsville. She and her husband owned & operated the Alma Store in the 50’s and she was the first female bus driver for Wellsville Central School from 1957 to 1982. She also operated Phyllis’s House of Ceramics in Alma, taught cake decorating and candy making at BOCES in Belmont and was known for making specialty cakes. She was a very active member of the Alma United Methodist Church and was instrumental in keeping the church open. She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family.
She is survived by 6 children, Sally (David) Plants of Kittanning, PA, Sue (Glenn Clark) Winicki of Cuba, Steve (Karen) Dickerson Sr. of Alma, Sherry (Bill Sr.) Day of Wellsville, Sabra (Kurt) McCarty of Davenport, FL. and Sylvia (Steve) LaChance of Wellsville, 17 grandchildren. 17 great grandchildren, 5 brothers, Lawrence (Dorothy) Shields of Bradford, PA, Francis (Marge) Shields of Portville, Richard (Joyce) Shields of Bolivar, James (Bobbie) Shields of Alma and Robert (Nell) Shields of Alma as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 1 sister, Virginia Shields in 1927.
Friends are invited to call on MONDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 and 9:00 pm and TUESDAY from noon to 2:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in WELLSVILLE. The funeral will follow visitation on Tuesday January 13, 2004 at 2:00 pm. in the funeral home with Donna Sturdevant, presiding. Phyllis Reuning Berg
Wellsville, NY
Phyllis Reuning Berg, 78, of Charlottesville, died peacefully with her family by her side at her residence on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004.
Born October 21, 1925 in Wellsville, NY, she was the daughter of the late George W. Reuning, Sr. and Gladys Grastorf Reuning. Her sister, Elizabeth Reuning, and brother, Charles Reuning, also preceded her in death.
Phyllis attended Cornell University where she obtained her B.S. in Home Economics in 1943 and her M.S. in 1945. She subsequently served as a college professor of Home Economics with expertise in textiles at the University of Illinois and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Following the marriage to her husband, Robert L. Berg, in 1959, she devoted herself to her family and shepherded them around the world as they lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, London, England, New Canaan and Greenwich, CT, Singapore, Dorset, VT, Salem, SC and finally Charlottesville. She made the most of each move, immersing herself in the local cultures, and pursuing her lifelong interests in painting, cooking and gardening. In addition to her hobbies, she volunteered in local hospitals or at the YWCA. She was a beloved grandmother to her grandchildren, and was always ready with a hug, a smile and a waiting lap.
She is survived by her husband; her two sons, Dr. Carl Berg and his wife, Dr. Martha Barnett, of Charlottesville and John Berg and his wife, Lisa, of Atherton, CA; a brother, George Reuning, Jr. and his wife, Marge, of Butler, PA; her sister-in-law, Gail Reuning of Salem, SC; and five grandchildren, Emily, Alison, Alexandra, Michael, and Andrew Berg; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Saturday, August 14 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville, NY. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Regina Shaw presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the David A. Howe Public Library, the Wellsville United Methodist Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

R. WELLS STOUT
Wellsville, NY
R. WELLS STOUT, age 77, of Wellsville, NY and Green Valley, AZ passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2004. He was born on June 3, 1926 in Wellsville, the son of Wayne and Mildred (Wells) Stout. On October 17, 1947 in Cuba, NY he married Jeanne Mullin, who predeceased him on March 18, 1988.
He was a graduate of Wellsville High School, Dickinson Junior College, and Syracuse University. He served in the US Navy during World War II. After graduation he returned home to run Stout Insurance Agency, founded by his father. He later merged with Brown Insurance Agency retiring from Brown & Stout in 1987. He was a former Allegany County Republican Chairman and a New York State Election Commissioner. He also served as Wellsville Town Republican Chairman; Republican County Committeeman; Administrative Assistant to Assemblyman Frank Walkley; Assistant Sergeant of Arms to the New York State Assembly; Assistant to State Chairman at National Republican Convention in 1972; Delegate at Large to Republican National Convention in 1976 and a former Allegany County Election Commissioner. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a Life Member of the Wellsville Lions Club with 50 years of perfect attendance, a member of the Elks Club, and a Thirty-Second Degree Mason. He also belonged to the American Legion, The Moose Club and the Wellsville Country Club.
He is survived by his children Susan Stout of Wellsville, Sally (William) Orband of Binghamton, Kathryn (Thomas) Kennel of Rochester, Tracy (Roy) Sherman of Columbia, TN Steven (Donna) Stout of Wellsville and by his loving companion, Bonnie O’Hara and her children Deborah O’Hara and Jack O’Hara. He was a loving grandfather to Margaret Middaugh, Michael Middaugh, Jonathan Middaugh, Elizabeth Orband, Julie Orband, Megan Orband, Allison (John) Comeau, Geoffrey Gardner, Stephanie (Nick) Viglietta, Sara Stout, Kelly Stout, and Alice Rose Sherman, a granddaughter in-law, Rebecca Middaugh, and 7 great-grandchildren, his sisters Phyllis Stout of Ithaca, Hilda (Loyd) Thompson of Rochester, and Helen (Carl) Munro of Jackson Springs NC, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother: Carlton Stout and a grandson, Thomas Middaugh.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, February 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The Wellsville Lions will conduct a service at 6:45pm and the Wellsville Elks Lodge will conduct a service at 8:45pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eugene Ulrich at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 9:00 am. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. Donations may be made to Home Care & Hospice, Wellsville or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Raymond F. Greene
Stannards
Raymond F. Greene, age 75, of 2093 Stannards Road, died Sunday August 3, 2003 in Bath, VA. He was born on January 8, 1928 in the Town of Willing, to Harold and Golda Hanchett Greene. Raymond attended Wellsville High School and retired from the US Air Force in 1967 after 20 years of service, He later was a auto mechanic and enjoyed driving race cars at local race tracks.
Survivors include: 5 brothers: Charles [Mary] Greene of Dothan, AL.; Richard Greene of Wellsville; James [Marie Cornelius] of Wellsville; Jay [Linda Bierman] Greene of Genesee, PA.; Bruce [Susan] Greene of East Rochester; 4 sisters: Beverly Perkins of Denver, CO.; Mary Ann [Marion] Matteson of Wellsville; Janet Greene of Delevan and Susan [Gary] Heimlich of Bergen. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Greene, in August of 2002.
There will be no prior visitation and graveside service with full military honors will be held in Yorks Corners Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials maybe made to the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser & Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville.
