Doris I. Cooley, age 91, formerly of East State St., passed away peacefully after a long illness on November 12, 2005 in the Highland Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born on May 23, 1914 in Richburg to Gorton G. and Jenny A. Landon Green. She was married on October 7, 1939 in Ceres, PA. to Harold E. Cooley who predeceased her on August 7, 1976. Doris was a former resident of Bolivar and Richburg, retired from the dietary staff at the Valley View Nursing Home and moved to Wellsville in 1985. She was a member of the ChristianMissionaryAllianceChurch, Royal Neighbors of America, the Inavale Grange, both the Richburg and Bolivar Fireman’s Auxiliary, Wellsville Senior Citizens and their rhythm band. Doris loved music and had played the piano. Survivors include: 2 daughters Nancy N. [Robert] Witter Dana of Wellsville and B. Tina Baldwin of Richburg; a son Grant [RoseMary] Cooley of Weston Mills; 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren as well 2 nephews and 1 niece. Doris was predeceased by a sister Bertha Townsend and a brother John A. Green; 2 great grandsons Michael Witter and Cameron Lynch. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the J.W. Embser & Sons F. H. in Wellsville. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 am with Rev. Michael Brady presiding. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery and memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.

A former resident of Buffalo, Cheektowaga, North Hill Road and Manor Hills in Wellsville. She was a very special aunt of Louann Pawlak. Also wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, great great aunt, kind friend and eternal optimist. Former beautician and fisherwoman, excellent baker/cook, avid Buffalo Bills fan, crochet-er, puzzle-doer and chance taker. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Friday at 11 am with family and friends invited. Joyce B. Jackson, 70, of Fords Brook Road, passed away on November 10, 2005 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1935 in the Town of Willing to James H. and Florence “Flossie” Schram Brownell. On November 7, 1953 in Wellsville she married Millard U. Jackson who survives. Joyce was a graduate of Wellsville High School and helped her husband run the family farm. She was a member of the Penn York Camp and a life long member of the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church where she was a very active member. Joyce loved gardening, reading, walking, listening to the Family life Network Radio Station and spending time with her grandchildren.Surviving besides her husband: 3 sons Rick [Esther] Jackson of Lancaster, PA, Den [Debbie] Jackson of Scio and Andrew [Melissa] Jackson of Westby, WI.; a daughter Suzanne [Jim] Mix of Hornell; 7 grandchildren; 3 Brothers, Hartrick “Bud” Brownell of Wellsville, John “Jack” [Stella] Brownell of West Jordan, UT and James [Ruth] Brownell of Wellsville. 2 sisters, Phyllis Winborn of Houston,TX. and Jean [Fred] Farwell of Scio as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by a son Raymond Jackson, a brother Richard Brownell, a half brother Leon “Sam” Brownell and a half sister Rose Hunt. Friends are invited to call on Saturday [Nov. 12] from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Funeral service will be held on Sunday in the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church at 2 pm with Rev. Eugene Miller presiding. Burial will be in the Yorks Corners Cemetery and memorials may be made to the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church or to the Penn York Camp.

George W. Moyer, of 4193 Bolivar Road, passed away on November 17, 2005 at his home. He was born February 15, 1917 in Rexville, the son of Lewis and Mable (Ellison) Moyer. He was married to the former Clara Prindle for more than 70 years. George served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in Dunkswell, England, during World War II and was a long time member of the VFW. He retired from the Air Preheater after 25 years of service. He was an outdoors enthusiast enjoying boating, fishing and hunting. Surviving besides his wife, is a daughter, Beverly Banker of Chino Valley, AZ, 2 sons, Roger (Kathy) Moyer of Wellsville, David (Bobbie) Moyer of Endwell, sister, Margaret Peters of Lockport, a brother, Clair Moyer of Shinglehouse, PA and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Moyer. Friends are invited to call at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Lee Williams will reside over a memorial service at the funeral home immediately following the viewing. Interment will be in the East Sharon Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Gertrude E. Morley, 86, of 100 Wintergreen Road, passed away on Sunday November 20, 2005 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport. She was born October 15, 1919 in Coudersport, PA the daughter of Gerald G. and Ethel (Rathbone) Empson. On November 22, 1972 in Potter Brook, PA she married James Morley who predeceased her on February 18, 1999. Gertrude was a homemaker who lived all her life in the Genesee area. She is survived by 1 stepson, Joseph Morley of Erie, PA, 1 stepdaughter, Mary (Ben) Colter of Hendersonville, TN, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 2 sisters, Margaret Torok of Gold, PA, Anna Brooks of Mansfield, PA and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 1 stepson, Allen James Morley. A memorial service will be planned for a later date and there is no prior visitation. Burial will be in the Brookfield Cemetery in Brookfield, PA. Memorial suggestions include the Genesee Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Blanca Garthwait, 83, of 4192 A Bolivar Road, passed away on Monday November 21, 2005 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born April 10, 1922 in Talara, Peru’ South America the daughter of Frederico Augusto and Blanca Rosa Ramos Lecca. In February of 1947 in Lima, Peru’ she married Fred Garthwait who predeceased her in 1955. Blanca was a former employee of Jones Memorial Hospital and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. She had formerly resided with her daughter in Hornell for a number of years and more recently was a resident of Manor Hills in Wellsville for several years She is survived by 2 daughters, Joyce (David) Sykora of Weeki Wachee, FL and Jessica (Arthur) Burns of Cohocton, NY, 6 grandchildren, Shannon Sykora, Jayson (Chris) Sykora, Jess (Lauren) Burns, James Burns, Justin (Cara) Burns and Jacob Burns, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Renee’ ValdeGuer of Miraflores, Peru’, Graceila Stevenson of Miami, FL and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her husband by 2 sisters, Carola and Angelica. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday November 25th at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, with Rev. Monsignor Vincent Becker as celebrant. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorial suggestions in lieu of flowers include the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive Ste 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380. Margaret M. “Maggie” Watson, 75, of Manor Hills, passed away on November 22, 2005 at the Health Care Facility of Sweden Valley, PA. She was born May 20, 1930 in Sumter, SC, the daughter of Timmons & Helen Matthews. Maggie had been a resident of Manor Hills since 1998. She enjoyed dressing in bright colors, was well liked by the other residents and had a contagious laugh. She was also very close to several of the aides at Manor Hills. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday December 2nd at 2:00 pm in the Golf Lounge of Manor Hills with Rev. Carol Schweigart presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. George E. Lewis I, age 57, of 138 ½ Olean Street, passed away on Sunday November 27 at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on December 19, 1947 in Wellsville to Charles and Charlotte Miese Lewis Sr. On August 19, 1967 in Wellsville she married Sandra Denning who survives.George was a 30 year employee of Sullivan and Murray Tire Company in Olean, had worked for Cline’s Retreading in Wellsville and had managed the Cable Construction Company. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved being out doors, stock car racing and decorating the house for Christmas. Surviving besides his wife: a son George [Roxanne] Lewis II of Scio and a daughter Teresa [Dave] Gray of Bolivar; his mother-in-law Helen Mix with whom he resided with; 7 grandchildren: Chelsea, Damien, Brent, Cody, Brandon, Stacie and Brianna; 2 brothers Jack and Lester Lewis and 6 sisters Sarah, Florence, Hazel, Polly, Cathy and Mary as well as several nieces and nephews He was predeceased by a grandson Shawn Lewis and 5 brothers: Charles, Sonny, Frank, Joe and Archie Lewis Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm at the conclusion of the calling hours with Rev. David Herne presiding. Nellie J. Weaver of the Wellsville Manor Care Center, formerly of Moonlight Drive, died on November 30, 2005 at the age of 91. She was born on September 28, 1914 in Dalton to Lloyd H. and Hazel Skellinger Yencer. On September 1, 1934 in Swain she married Chester T. Weaver who predeceased her in 1979. Nellie enjoyed dancing, keeping house, cooking, refinishing furniture, crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of the Christian Temple, Disciples of Christ, Church in Wellsville and a life long member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving her are: 2 daughters Donna [William] Moore and Sharon Hedrick Ash both of Wellsville; 4 grandchildren: Robert ”Tyke” Matta, Lisa DerCola, Major Townley Hedrick and Huntley Hedrick; 5 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers Myrl Yencer, Glenn Yencer and Robert Yencer : a sister Ruth Thompson and a great great grandson. Friends are invited to call on Saturday from 12 noon to 2 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 pm with Rev. Anna Shirey presiding.
