BATH - Ernest C. “Ernie” McQueen of Wellsville passed away at the Bath VA Monday (June 23, 2008). He was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Scio, to Clayton and Katherine Palmer McQueen. On Oct. 15, 1955, in Wellsville, he married Patricia Williams, who survives.
Ernie had been a longtime resident of the Bath VA Center, where he was well liked and respected by the staff. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during WWII as a pharmacist’s mate and was recalled for the Korean Conflict. He was a salesman for the former Lester’s Chevrolet and Garvy’s Oldsmobile and Cadillac, and later for the former Wellsville Auto Parts.
Ernie’s memberships included the Masonic Lodge No. 474 of Belmont, American Legion Post No. 808 of Belmont and Amvets Post No. 245, and he was a life member of the Elks Lodge No. 1495 of Wellsville. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. Ernie loved music and sports, and he had been an avid tennis player. He was very proud of his children, loved his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.
In addition to his wife, Patricia of Wellsville, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Michael) Mooney of Pittsford; and a son, Mitch (Catherine) McQueen of Brighton; two grandchildren, Maxwell and Jackson Mooney; a sister, Evelyn Jones of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Claude and Martin McQueen.
Friends are invited to call from 1-3 p.m. Thursday in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. A service will be held after calling hours at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding. Burial with full military honors will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial suggestions include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps., Disabled American Veterans at PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Colorado Springs, CO - Mary Daily Lynch, 93, a former long time resident of Wellsville died February 13, 2008 in Colorado, where she resided since 1965. She was born February 22, 1914 the daughter of Jeremiah and Margaret (Carey) Daley. On November 22, 1969 in Wellsville she married J. Vincent Lynch who predeceased her on July 19, 1991.
Mary was a former member and organist of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville for many years. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and mentor for the Junior Legion of Mary.
Friends are invited to a Mass in her memory on Thursday April 10, 2008 at 8:00 am in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Monsignor Vincent Becker as Celebrant. Burial will be Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial suggestions include the Immaculate Conception Memorial Fund % 6 Maple Avenue Wellsville, NY 14895. Local arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc.
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Craig N. Norton, 64, of Shinglehouse, PA and Casselberry, Florida, died in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday June 20, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.
Born April 14, 1944 in Shinglehouse, PA, he was a son of William N. and Margaret Keir Norton. On September 5, 1964 in the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, PA, he married Phyllis J. “Mousie” Perkins, who survives.
He was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, class of 1963. Mr. Norton received his first paycheck at age 12 while employed at the William N. Norton Block Company in Shinglehouse, PA which later became Norton’s Building Supply, Inc., where he served as president and operated the company with his sons and grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, PA and attended the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee, NY. While in school he was very athletic, playing baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed bowling. Later, he enjoyed racing cars at the Smethport, Bradford, Woodhull, and Drum Raceways. His car was #24X, Go, Daddy, Go. He donated the dugouts for most of the baseball and softball organizations in the area. Mr. Norton enjoyed farming, raising calves, and milking cows. He also very much enjoyed attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed fishing and boating, and going to the casino. He enjoyed visiting with friends, but most especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife are six sons: Dave N. (Barb) Norton of Shinglehouse, PA, Duane L. “Dude” Norton of Rixford, PA, Daniel W. (Tracy) Norton of Shinglehouse, PA, Dale C. Norton of Shinglehouse, PA, Darren E. (Stephanie) Norton of Shinglehouse, PA, and Donny J. Norton of Shinglehouse, PA; five grandsons; four granddaughters; one brother, Claud W. (Melody) Norton of Shinglehouse, PA; a special brother-in-law, Phil (Jackie) Perkins of Oswayo, PA; one niece; and one nephew.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Norton was predeceased by a brother, Bernard K. Norton.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 29, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Faith Bible Church, Little Genesee, NY with the Rev. Clint Pearsall, pastor, officiating. Mr. Norton’s good friend, Joseph Avery of Shinglehouse, PA will offer a prayer at the memorial service. Friends are invited to attend committal services at the Norton family residence on Route 44, Shinglehouse, PA following the memorial service.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Patterson Cancer Center, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

FRIENDSHIP - Robert John Bergerson, 53, of East Main Street died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2007) at his home.
Robert was known simply as “RJ” or “Duckfoot” and had been battling heart disease for several years.
He was born Oct. 15, 1954, in Wellsville, the son of Howard and Patricia Knox Bergerson.
He had resided in Oklahoma prior to returning to Allegany County in 1989.
He was a graduate of the Wellsville High School and was a motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed being a member of the Bikers For Christ.
He will be missed by his family, friends, and his faithful dog, “Bobo.”
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Bergerson of Wellsville; a brother, Rev. Carl (Melody) Bergerson of Ansonia, Pa.; and two nieces, Amanda (Denny) Fink and Candace Bergerson.
He was also the proud great-uncle of Zachery Carl Fink.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Shepherd.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Robert’s life which will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 20, 2007) in the Fellowship Hall of the Alliance Church on North Highland Avenue in Wellsville, with Rev. Carl Bergerson, his brother, officiating. Burial will be in the Yorks Corners Cemetery in the town of Willing.
Memorials may be made to the Gideons (Allegany Camp), Box No. 82, Houghton, NY 14744.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville.
WELLSVILLLE - Carmela Grace Buck, 73, of 376 E. Dyke St. died on Friday (Dec. 7, 2007) at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Galeton, Pa. the daughter of Carmine J. and Rena L. (Brambilla) Pagano. On Oct. 24, 1959, at St. Bibiana Church in Galeton, Pa., she married Richard R. Buck, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, “Dick,” are her parents, Carmine and Rena Pagano of Galeton; beloved mother of six children, Gina N. Smith of Conesus, Nicki L. (Charles) Booker of Pearland, Texas and Camilla (Todd) Merrick of Geneseo, Jay R. (Lisa) Buck of Concord, N.C.. and her twins, Frank R. Buck and Guy J. (Theresa Shaw) Buck. both of Wellsville; three grandchildren, Cori Booker, Levi Buck and Colten Buck; three step-grandchildren, Jade Deming, Branden and Kevin Merrick; three siblings, Charles (Bonnie) Pagano of Bradford, Pa., Carmine (Joyce) Pagano of Galeton, Pa. and Grace (William) Murray of Big Sur, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Max Huber of North Hills, Calif.; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Toni Huber, in 1995.
“Carm” was a graduate of Galeton High School and the Rochester Business Institute. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, an ardent patron of The David A. Howe Public Library, an enthusiast of jazz music, a devoted fan of the Oakland Raiders and was well-known by her friends and family for her unending ability to laugh herself to tears. She lived her life with quiet grace, unshakable dignity, unending devotion to family, extreme tolerance, and boundless love. It is with heavy hearts that we give this most beautiful soul back to God and His heavenly community, with our sincere gratitude for allowing us the privilege of being a part of this most precious life.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2007) in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Monsignor Vincent Becker as celebrant. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery in Galeton. Memorial suggestions include the Terrace Renovation Fund, c/o The David A. Howe Public Library, 155 N. Main St., Wellsville, NY 14895.
WELLSVILLLE - Brenda C. Post, 58, of 2112 Petrolia Road died Monday (Dec. 10, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness.
She was born March 29, 1949, in Wellsville, the daughter of Benjamin and June Wright Latten Sr.
In Wellsville, she was married to James R. Post Sr., who survives her.
She had resided in Texas for several years prior to returning to the Wellsville area.
She had been employed as a domestic for several families in the Wellsville area. She had attended school in both Corpus Christi, Texas and Wellsville.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Laura Mattot of Wellsville; a son, Richard Meyers of Wellsville; five grandchildren; three stepchildren, Stacey Post of Hornell, Jason Post of Hornell and James R. Post Jr. of Hornell; two sisters, Roxanne Lunn of California and Sharon (Tom) Houghtaling of Wellsville; a brother, Benjamin Latten Jr. of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Kathy Anderson.
There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the Dialysis Center, 515 Main St., Olean, NY 14760.
