HORNELL - Beulah Tripp, 93, formerly of 19 William St., Hornell, died Sept. 25, 2001, in Denver, Colo.
She was. born Oct. 21, 1907, in Penn Yan and was a former resident of Bolivar, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Denver.
Mrs. Tripp was employed for several years at the former Big N department store before her retirement.
She was a talented pianist, playing professionally in the Bolivar and Hornell areas.
Family, music and travel were the joys of her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Stohr of Myrtle Beach and Wanda Jandrew of The Villages, Fla.; three sons, Robert (LeeAnna) Tripp of Hornell, Frederick (Mary) Tripp of Myrtle Beach and Gerald (Jenean) Tripp of Arvada, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Meredith, in 1972; two sisters, Georgia Shaner-Murphy of Bolivar and Eva Ford of Canandaigua; a grandson, Randall Jandrew of California; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Simmons.
Friends called at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, Friday (Oct. 12, 2001) from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at which time a memorial service was held, and Lee Ryan officiated. Burial took place Saturday at 10 a.m. in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
Memorials may be made to the Bolivar Free Library, Buffalo Children's Hospital, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
FRIENDSHIP - Craig Charles Weart, 83, of Friendship died Tuesday (Sept. 25, 2001) in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bath, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 6, 1918, in Friendship, he was a son of Charles P. and Ruth E. Craig. On July 26, 1947, in Franklinville, he married the former Pauline L. “Polly” Wallace, who survives.
Mr. Weart had lived all of his life in Friendship and was a graduate of Friendship High School, class of 1937, and Westbrook Commercial Academy in Olean, class of 1938.
For several years, he was a partner in Lorenzo Utter's Insurance Agency before enlisting in the U.S. Army in January 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater and was discharged as a master sergeant in November 1945.
Mr. Weart was employed by Daystrom Corp. in Friendship from 1946 to 1956. At that time, he established his own general insurance company located at 39 Sunnyside St., which he operated until his retirement in 1984. He was assessor for the Town of Friendship from 1960 to 1971. Mr. Weart was a member of the United Church of Friendship, Friendship Fire Department, Friendship American Legion, Post 1168, Cuba-Friendship Lodge 306 F&AM and the Friendship Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Richard C. (Alfreda) Weart of Friendship and David E. (Pamela) Weart of Bradford, Pa.; a daughter, Denise A. (Richard) DeGroat of Rochester; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Hubbard of Mount Morris and Irene Sick of Dansville; a niece and seven nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jane M. Karle; and a grandson, Jacob Weart.
Friends called Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship. Funeral services were held Friday (Sept. 28, 2001) at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Friendship where Rev. Rick Kiddy, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Friendship.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
A Masonic service was held Thursday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
WELLSVILLE - Ruth V. Dufrin, 73, of 1887 Stannards Road died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) in Jones Memorial Hospital.
Born June 26, 1928, in Foster, Ohio, she was a daughter of Harry and Clara-Blankenship Vaske. On May 27, 1972, in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., she married Jack W. Dufrin, who survives.
Mrs. Dufrin was a former resident of Scio, Aberdeen and Edgewood, Md., and Peel, Ark., moving to Wellsville in 1994.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Dawn (John) Biggs of Baltimore, Md., and Terri Brainard of Scio; a son, Cody (Kathy) Smith, two stepdaughters, Ruthmari (Tom) Andersen of Grayslake, Ill., and JuneAn (Kevin) Lanigan of Portola Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Eric Brunelle) Brainard, Bobby Brainard, Hope Brainard, Chelsea Smith, Emanuel Smith, Christopher Smith, Joey Smith, Chelsea Smith, Ashley (Nathan Hessenthaler) Andersen, Joshua Andersen, Mackenzie Lanigan and Caitlyn Lanigan; a great-grandson, August Brainard Brunelle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Friends called at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., Wellsville, Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services were held. The Rev. Gene Ulrich officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.
Memorials may be made to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
HINSDALE - Roger L. Fox of 4740 Steward Road, Hinsdale, died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) in the emergency room at Olean General Hospital.
Born in Olean on July 19, 1952, he was a son of Osberne M. and Madeline L. Moyer Fox. On Oct. 13, 1983, in Olean, he married Sheila Hart, who survives.
Mr. Fox was employed at McHone Industries in Salamanca.
He was a graduate of the former Allegany Central School, now Allegany-Limestone Central School.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Madeline L. Fox of Hinsdale; a son, Eric L. Fox of Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Heather M. Fox and Heidi L. Fox, both at home; a stepson, Lee (Reagan) Hawkins of San Diego, Calif.; a granddaughter; a step grandson; three brothers, Ronald Fox of Olean, Ralph (Tom) Fox of Cuba and Bernard Fox of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.
There was no public visitation.
Friends attended a memorial service on Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at 2 p.m. in the McIntosh Funeral Home (Nicholson Chapel), 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. Pastor Jim Kazimer of the Church of God in Eldred, Pa., officiated.

FRANKLINVILLE - Virgil L. Holmes of Pine Street died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) at the Pines in Machias after a short illness
Born Dec. 7, 1919, in Farmersville, he was a son of John and Flora Leonard Holmes. On Feb. 3, 1940, in Bradford, Pa., he married the former Grace L. Burrell, who survives.
Mr. Holmes was a 1937 graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville.
He was a self-employed dairy farmer on the Rushford Road in Franklinville for 40 years. He was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Buffalo for seven years and worked for Chevrolet Motor Co. in Buffalo during World War II.
Mr. Holmes was a member of the Eastern Milk Producers where he served four years as vice president, and he was a member of the former Franklinville Grange.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert (Edith) Holmes of Rushford and Sammy (June) Holmes of Dale; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Jean (James) Warner of Franklinville; and several nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lois Kessler and Athalene Perkins.
Friends were received Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville, where funeral services were held Tuesday (Dec 4, 2001) at 2 p.m. His grandson, the Rev. Vaughn Holmes, pastor of the Maple Crest SBC Church in Warsaw, officiated. Burial followed in Siloam Cemetery, Freedom.
Memorials may be made to the Farmersville Community Church or the Franklinville volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund
ANDOVER - Joseph H. Joyce, 88, of 160 Seneca St., Wellsville, formerly of Joyce Hill, Andover, died Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2001) at the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville
He was born Feb. 19, 1913 in Andover, the son of Thomas and Mary Dixon Joyce.
He attended school in Andover and was a farmer all his life on Joyce Hill in Andover.
He was a member of the Andover Blessed Sacrament Church.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews .
There was no calling hours.
Friends were invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Andover, where Rev. Paul Schnacky of St. Ann's Church, Hornell, officiated.
Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Andover.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by the Mulholland-Swan Funeral Home, Inc., Andover.
