FILLMORE - Mary N. Cook, 85, of North Genesee St., Fillmore, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at The Waters of Houghton in Houghton.
She was born Dec. 18, 1915 in Springville, the daughter of the late E. Carroll and Mayme (Fuller) Newman.
On Aug. 7, 1937 at Silver Lake, she married Gerald Cook, who died in 1986.
Mrs. Cook was formerly of Sandusky, N.Y., and was a 1933 graduate of Arcade High School.
While in Allegany County, she attended the Hume United Methodist Church.
She was an avid collector of antiques, while also helping her husband on their dairy farm. She also taught piano lessons out of her home in both Sandusky and Fillmore. She also worked the concession stand for the A & A Railroad in Arcade.
Mrs. Cook was also a member, musician and past Nobel Grand of the Genesee Rebekah Lodge #491 in Hume and was a Past Centerville Grange Member.
She is survived by one daughter, Glenda C. Ballard of Houghton; a son-in-law, Fred Ballard of Fillmore; three grandchildren, Jill (Jeffrey) Ritter of Geneva, Jay (Jill) Ballard of Hinsdale and Fred "Josh" (Sherry) Ballard Jr. of Fillmore; one great-grandson, Andrew Ritter.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the W.S. Davis Inc., Funeral Home, in Arcade. Rev. Beth Kotteman officiating. Burial at Maple Wood Cemetery, Springville, N.Y.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hume United Methodist Church or the Rushford Town Band.
PENN YAN, N.Y. -- Chase E. Creedon, 6, of 323 Keuka St., Penn Yan, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born Sept. 26, 1995 in Buffalo, he was the son of Matthew J. and Denise Hann Creedon.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and best friend, Asa; grandparents James L. Creedon of Melbourne, Fla., Margaret Hann of Gowanda and Francis Hann of Wellsville; great-grandmother Irene Hann of Wellsville; God parents Monica and Ken Marsh of Penn Yan; aunts, uncles, cousins and all his friends at St. Michael's School.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, East Elm St., Penn Yan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Church with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael's School or the American Heart Association.
ANGELICA -- Merel Edward Case, 98, of 139 Olean St., died Wednesday (May 29, 2002).
He was born Nov. 14, 1903 in Bradford Township, McKean County, Pa., the son of Margaret Stevenson and Howard Case. He was married to the former Laudice Luckey, who predeceased him in 1972 and Avis Luckey, who died in 1986.
Mr. Case worked at the Allegany County Home from 1925 until he went to work at Angelica Central School as head custodian from 1948-1969. Merel grew up with steam and was instrumental in starting and maintaining the steam engine display at the Allegany County Fair. He served the Angelica village board for 12 years with one year as mayor. He was a director of the Allegany County Fair Board for 46 consecutive years, retiring in 2001.
He is survived by one son, Donald (Ida) Case of Angelica; four grandchildren, Don (Connie) Case of Belmont, Valerie (Andrew) Daciw of Angelica, Barry (Cathy) Case of Hamlin and Mike (Deb) Case of Scio; a daughter-in-law, Neva Hunt of Angelica; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Ellsessor of Angelica; two step-children, Charlene (Art) Shearing of Gainesville and Bill Henry of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Emmett Rose of Angelica.
Merel was predeceased by two sons, Robert and Edward, as well as by five brothers, Walter, Milton, Lewis, Howard and Allen; and two sisters, Iven Case and Jane Hall.
Friends will be received Saturday, from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, Angelica. Funeral services will follow on Sunday at 5 p.m., with Ron Reichman officiating. Burial will be in Until the Day Cemetery, Angelica.
Memorials may be made to the Angelica Volunteer Ambulance Fund.
WELLSVILLE -- Mildred C. "Mickie" Carlin, 60, of 25 Madison St., died Sunday (April 28, 2002) in her home, after a brief illness.
She was born April 10, 1942 in Eldred, Pa., the daughter of Paul and Edna Reynolds.
On July 16, 1960 in Bolivar, she married Charles Ben Carlin, who died Oct. 30, 1993.
She was a lifelong resident of the Alma and Wellsville area and attended Bolivar Central School.
She was retired from the dietary department at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
Mrs. Carlin was a member of the Wellsville American Legion Post #702 Auxiliary, Ladies of the Wellsville Moose Lodge, and a social member of the Wellsville VFW Post 2530.
She is survived by her mother, Edna Reynolds of Shinglehouse, Pa.; five sons, Gregory C. (Suzette) Carlin, Marlin J. (Tammy) Carlin and Jason J. (Ann Marie) Carlin, all of Wellsville, Patrick J. (Cheryl) Carlin of Andover and Kelly P. Carlin of Worchester, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a special friend, Ronald Cady of Wellsville; three brothers, Gary Reynolds of South Carolina, Ronald Reynolds of Shinglehouse, Pa. and Terry Reynolds of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Gail Snodgrass of Ohio, Carol Reynolds of Clarion, Pa. and Cindy Baker of Shinglehouse, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Paul; and brothers, Robert and Carl.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Mason Sorensen, pastor of the Wellsville Full Gospel Church, officiating. Burial at Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio.
The family especially thanks her caregivers Dr. David Graham and Ann Marie Carlin.

WELLSVILLE -- Hilda E. Bales, 90, of 689 Trapping Brook Rd., died Monday (March 25, 2002) in the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 31, 1911, in Allentown, N.Y., the daughter of J. Wesley and Florence Storms Coast.
She had resided in Bradford, Pa., until moving to Wellsville in 1953.
She was married to John H. Bales, who predeceased her on March 22, 2002.
From 1959 until 1976, she was employed as children's librarian at the David A. Howe Library in Wellsville.
She was a member of the Wellsville Bible Church and the White Shrine of Bradford Pa., OES.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth B. Roeske of Wellsville; a son, John W. (Nancy) Bales of Skaneateles, N.Y.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville, on Friday from 1 until 3 p.m., at which time services will be held. Pastor Daniel Kenyon of the Wellsville Bible Church will officiate. Burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar at the convenience of the family.
Memorials are suggested to the children's section of the David A. Howe Library in Wellsville.
