BRUNDAGE WELLSVILLE -- Ruby L. Brundage, 84, a former resident of Fords Brook, died Thursday (April 3, 2003) at the Wellsville Highland Healthcare Center. She was born April 3, 2003 in the Town of Alma, a daughter of Clark A. Perry and Maude A. (Phillips) Perry. On December 20, 1941, in Genesee, PA., she married Robert E. Brundage who predeceased her on June 25, 1993. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. She is survived by a son, Richard Brundage of Austin, TX., one step grand daughter Marcia Smith of Texas, two step grandsons Edward Sullins III and K.D. Smith both of Austin, TX., one sister Myrtle E. Young of Coudersport, PA. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by five brothers, Philip, Sherman, Clinton Sr., Clark W. Sr., and Oland Perry, two sisters Arlouene Page and Rose Mary Sanders, a daughter-in-law Shirley R. Brundage, a step grand daughter Melinda Kae Williams and a step great grandson Michael Smith. Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., in Wellsville, where a funeral service will be Monday April 7, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Dennis Wolf will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice. VIVIAN SKIVER CUBA -- Vivian Skiver, 86, of 140 West Main Street, a former Portville resident, died Tuesday (April 1, 2003) at Olean General Hospital. She was born September 4, 1916 a daughter of Russell and Almedia (Huble) Garfield. On January 2, 1932 she married Howard Skiver, who predeceased her in 1985. She was employed at the former Case Company, in Hinsdale, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, in Cuba. She is survived by four daughters, Patricia (James) Seamon of Cuba, Ruth (Raymond) Styles of Greenwood, Marilyn (Harry) Whitehead of Las Vegas, Sherry Bean of Allegany, five sons, Martin (Shirley) Skiver, Allen (Jenny) Skiver, Jerry Skiver and Dalbert (Penny) Skiver all of Portville, Dana (Laura) Skiver of Cuba, 29 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, a brother Russell (Rosalie) Garfield, a sister Emily Rice both of Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 South Main St., Portville, NY. Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at the home. Burial will be in West Genesee Cemetery, Obi. Memorials can be made to the Kingdom Hall, Cuba or the Portville Fire Department. LAURIE M. SMITH BELFAST -- Laurie M. Smith, 57, of 31 West Hughes Street, Belfast, died Saturday (April 5, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born October 27, 1945, in Wellsville, a daughter of Draper B. Smith and Doris (Fiske) Smith. Laurie was a former long time resident of Belmont, moving to Belfast in 1996. She graduated from Belmont Central School in 1963 and SUNY Brockport in 1967. She did her graduate work at Alfred University and SUNY Geneseo. She began her teaching career in Angelica during the 1967-1968 school year. She then taught at the Allentown Elementary School for several years before moving to Scio Central School where she was a second grade and kindergarten teacher for many years, retiring in 2000. She then served as a substitute teacher in Scio for one year. She attended St. Philips Episcopal Church in Belmont and had enjoyed bowling at Community Lanes in Belmont. She was an active member of the Scio School teacher's union, the Scio Ski Club and participated in many Scio school and community activities. She was a giving teacher and a gracious friend until the very end. She is survived by one brother, Servius T. "Butch" (Beverly) Smith, of Franklinville, one sister, Catherine (Douglas) Waldron of Sandusky, two aunts several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins, She was predeceased by her parents and a brother David Smith. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Belmont, a memorial service will follow visitation Wednesday April 9, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Reverend Dawn Barrett, of the Allegany County Episcopal Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont. Memorials may be given to the Belfast Rescue Squad. TAMMY R. SMITH BELMONT -- Tammy R. Smith, 21, a former resident of Belmont and Allegany, passed away earlier this year. She was born March 29, 1981, in Sunrise Beach, TX., a daughter of Robert Smith and Debra Trowbridge Baker. She attended Genesee Valley School, and had worked for Ron's Smoke Shop in Carrolton, NY. She enjoyed movies, traveling, warm weather and collected candles. Her family and friends would like Tammy to be remembered for her huge, kind, heart, which she showed in her love of animals and most of all with her family and friends. Tammy is survived by her mother and step father Debbie and Ron Baker of Belmont, her father Robert Smith of Texas, her boyfriend, Darin Carmichael of Angelica and four brothers, Robert Smith Jr., (Christine) of San Diego, Ca., Michael (Jennifer) Crandall of San Diego, Stephen (Lori) Crandall of Elgin, IL., and Kevin Smith of Belmont, a step brother Dylan Baker, and step sister Shanae Baker both of Black Creek, and special nephews and nieces, Dylan and Courtney Crandall of Jacksonville, FL., Ethan Crandall of Elgin, Tiffany Smith of Arkport, and her grandparents, and several uncles and aunts. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday (April 4, 2003) at the Brown and Powers Funeral Home, at 101 West Avenue, Angelica, where there will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Reverend Naysim Simons. Burial will be at the Forest Hills Cemetery, Belmont. Those wishing to remember Tammy are asked to consider a contribution to the Allegany County SPCA, Route 19S. Wellsville, NY., 14895. WILLIAM "Everett" CARLIN WELLSVILLE -- William "Everett" Carlin, 82, known to most as "Ev", left his earthly home and journeyed to his heavenly mansion with his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2003 in his home after a long illness. He was born September 27, 1921, in Petrolia, NY., a son of Edward and Florence Black Carlin. On September 28, 1946, in Wellsville, he was married to Phyllis A. Case who survives him. He was a life-long resident of Wellsville, attending Scio Central School graduating in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as a Tech 5 Sergeant from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by the Wellsville Roofing Company for nine years. In 1983 he retired from Air Preheater where he had worked for 30 years in the metallurgy lab as a Technician and he traveled extensively for the Company to various locations in the United States. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville and a member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702, American Legion, of Wellsville. Mr. Carlin was a terrific husband and father who loved his family. He spent many happy years with his family and they enjoyed roller skating, traveling and Sunday afternoon rides around local roads and visiting other family members. He loved animals, enjoyed walking his dog in his early retirement years. Mr. Carlin designed and built his own home and he enjoyed working with his hands to build many wood crafted items. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Case Carlin, one son Peter Carlin of Wellsville, one daughter Penny (Ronald) Coleman of Wellsville, one brother Edward W. Carlin of Wellsville and one sister Doris Harms, of Belmont and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a son David Leslie Carlin, a daughter Susan Marie Carlin, two sisters Leola Ketchner and Gladys McBride. There will be no visitation. Services will be conducted on Tuesday April 1, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Wellsville, with the Reverend Robert Morris officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Wellsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Allegany County SPCA, or Home Care and Hospice in Wellsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville. LYLE R. HARDER WELLSVILLE - Lyle R. Harder, 85, of 72 Maple Avenue, died Wednesday (January 8, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on January 20, 1917, in Wellsville, a son of Bert L. and Hazel (Myers) Harder. On November 18, 1984, in Wellsville, her married Jeannette Geoppner Leney who survives. Lyle's family moved from Wellsville to Olean in 1923 where he graduated from Olean High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in the European Theater of Operation from 1943 to 1946 and earned four Battle Stars. He was employed by Olean Glass, which became Thatcher Glass in 1939. He held various positions in Elmira, St. Louis, MO., St. Paul, MN. and Rochester. He retired in 1984 as Regional Sales Manager and moved back to Wellsville. He was a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495, Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702 in Wellsville, the Frank B. Church V.F.W. Post # 2530 in Wellsville, the Wellsville Country Club and the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601. Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son, Geoffrey (Christine) Harder of Rochester, and one daughter, Karin (Ross) Lewis of East Brunswick, N.J. and three grandchildren. There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday January 11, at 2 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., in Wellsville with members of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion conducting the service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
