WELLSVILLE -- John W. "Jack" Eames, 79, of 274 North Main Street died Wednesday (April 2, 2003) in the Highland Healthcare Center after a long illness.
He was born December 5, 1923, in Westfield, PA., a son of Walter R. and Celia Wilson Eames.
On August 16, 1958, in Wellsville, he married Pauline Potter who survives him.
He was a graduate of Wellsville High School and in World War II he served with the U.S. Army.
He had resided in the Wellsville area for the past 40 years and until recently had lived on the Fords Brook Road.
He had been employed as an auto parts clerk for the Wellsville Auto Parts Store and until retirement at Pfuntner's Chrysler Sales.
He enjoyed woodworking and was known as an expert cabinetmaker. He was also fond of caring for the plants and shrubs around his home, that he had built himself on Fords Brook Road. He also enjoyed his pet poodles.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Pauline are a sister Eleanor E. Leon of Andover, a niece, grand niece and several cousins.
Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at which time services will be held, with the Reverend Lee Williams of the First United Methodist Church of Wellsville officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Wellsville.
Memorials are requested for the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corp or the Allegany County SPCA.
WELLSVILLE -- Kathryn I. VanBlargan, 94, of 160 Seneca Street, died Friday (April 4, 2003) at the Wellsville Highland Healthcare Center.
She was born April 10, 1908 in Great Valley, NY., a daughter of Elmer W. Hopkins and Ella (Hull) Hopkins.
Kathryn was predeceased by her first husband Laverne Groff and on May 19, 1951 she married Lee G. VanBlargan who predeaceased her on July 13, 1994.
She was a graduate of Great Valley High School and was a member of the First United Church of Chirst in Lima.
She is survived by two nephews, Maurice (Delores) Connors of Florida, Leo (Peggy) Connors of West Seneca, NY., and a niece, Mrs. Raymond of Wellsville, and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior visitation and graveside services will be at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery in Great Valley.
Memorials may be made to the David A. Howe Library, 155 North Main Street, Wellsville, N.Y., 14895.

WHITESVILLE -- Marvin K. Derhamer, 86, of Park Street, died Monday (January 27, 2003) at the Wellsville Nursing Home.
WELLSVILLE -- Marion R. Anderson, 101, of 160 Seneca Street passed away Thursday (July 3, 2003) at the Highland Healthcare Center.
FRIENDSHIP -- Leona Mae Freeman, 81, of 7 Elm Street, died Monday (June 30, 2003) at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
ADDISON -- Sandra A. Dixon, 56, of 89 Maple Street, died Tuesday (July 1, 2003) in the Corning, NY. hospital after a long illness.
WELLSVILLE -- Lucy K. Baldini, 92, formerly of North Main Street, died Monday (June 30, 2003) at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a long illness.
WELLSVILLE -- Leo Baldwin, a native of Wellsville, peacefully passed away at his daughter's home in Jacksonville, FL. Sunday (June 29, 2003) after a short fight with cancer.
ANGELICA -- Richard "Dick" W. Wahl, 60, of 55 Mechanic Street, passed away Saturday (September 27, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. -- Ronald L. Gordon, 60, of Harbor Oaks in Fruitland Park, passed away on Saturday (September 20, 2003).
WELLSVILLE -- Dorothy H. Brocking, a former longtime resident of White Plains, N.Y. and currently residing at 46 1/2 Wheeler Place, Wellsville, died on September 26, 2003 at the age of 97 at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville, N.Y.
PENN YAN -- Phyllis A. Hayes, 72, passed away Saturday (September 27, 2003) at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.
ULYSSES, Pa. -- Dexter R. Angood, 79, of Ulysses, Pa., died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, in the Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, NY.
ERIE, PA. -- Daniel M. Brandes, 57, died suddenly in his home in Erie, on Sunday (September 21, 2003).
HORNELL -- Gary L. Mattice, 64, of 8 Sunset Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday (September 23, 2003) in the afternoon.
WELLSVILLE -- James V. Fulmer, 77, of 24, Fairview Avenue died Sunday (September 21, 2003) shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
WELLSVILLE -- Donald L. Morrison, of 17 McDowell Avenue, died Sunday (September 21, 2003) shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born November 4, 1930, in Wellsville, the son of Lowell and May (Freelove) Morrison. On July 26, 1950, in Scio, he married Ethel Kish who survives.
