ANDOVER -- Julia Coats, 81, passed away Wednesday, (September 17, 2003) at the Highland Healthcare Center, in Wellsville, following a long illness.

SCIO -- Frederick E. Phillips, 64, died Friday (September 12, 2003) in his home at the Breezy Point Campsites after a brief illness.

WELLSVILLE -- Norma C. Graham, 83, of 28 Nelson Avenue, died Sunday (September 14, 2003) in the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville after a long illness.
RUTH D. SCHWEIGART
GENESEE Pa. -- Ruth D. Schweigart, 64, of Genesee, Pa., died Thursday (March 11, 2004) in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y.
Born June 9, 1939, in Blossburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Fred C. and Mabel Hart Dexter. On December 29, 1956, in Harrison Valley, Pa., she married William A. (Bill) Schweigart, who predeceased her in 1999.
Ruth devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She cared for her husband and daughter, Kimberly, in their years of illness. She developed a special relationship with each family member that will be cherished forever. She enjoyed spending her ambitions with family most, but had special hobbies such as; bowling, working puzzles, crocheting, reading, cooking and learning about her Irish heritage.
She was employed by various area restaurants including the Texas Hot, The Heater, and the former Big N. She and her husband operated "The Kimberly Restaurant," in Genesee, for three years, which was named in honor of their daughter. Her travels included, Japan, China, Hawaii, Ireland and much of the United States. Ruth was known for her music with her husband and her singing ability. She was a member of the West Bingham Bible Union Church, Genesee.
Surviving area one son, William C. "Billy" Schweigart of Wellsville, N.Y., two daughters, Lori Malnar of Wellsville and Ruthie (Donald) Jacobs of Whitesville, N.Y., seven grandchildren, David Puchlettner, Virginia Deaton, Rachael Jacobs, Peter Jacobs, Carrie Malner, Nathan Jacobs, and Lane Jacobs, five brothers, Norris (Sara) Dexter of Wellsboro, Hugh Jim (Pat) Dexter of St. Cloud, Fla., Allen (Lucy) Dexter of Pine City, N.Y., Bill Dexter of Lawrenceville, and Clifton Dexter of Knoxville, five sisters, Lola (Joe) Shabloski of Wellsboro, Marietta Coupe of Wellsboro, Doris (John) Young of Cohocton, N.Y., Dorothy Bruce of Wellsboro, and Linda Dexter of Lewistown, and many neices and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Sue Schweigart in 2003, two sisters, Sandra Dexter and Evelyn Johnston, and a special sister-in-law, Patricia Pratt Ordway.
Friends may call Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, Pa, where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. Pastor David K. ARLENE M. HARRISON
LEESBURG, Fla./WHITESVILLE -- Arlene Harrison, 65, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday (January 27, 2004).
ARLOUINE GERTRUDE SMITH
Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother FRIENDSHIP -- Arlouine Gertrude Smith, 81, of 16 Lake Medow Drive, Rochester, died Saturday (January 31, 2004) at North Park Transitional Housing, in Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
GINA JAI BILLINGS
WEST ALMOND -- Gina Jai Billings, 18, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (October 6, 2004) as a result of an automobile accident.
Gina was born on Sept. 19, 1986, in Winter Park, Fla., to James E. and Peggy S. (Blamire) Billings. She and her parents moved back to the area shortly thereafter. She was currently a senior at Whitesville Central School and a former student at Alfred-Almond Central School. She worked part-time at Hurdale Farm as an equestrian horse trainer.
Besides her parents, Gina is survived by two brothers, Joseph J. Billings of Genesee, Pa., and John T. (Kari) Billings of Whitesville; a sister, Marie Billings of West Almond; three grandparents, Russell and Regina Blamire of Whitesville and Diane Billings Miller of Rose; a niece, Paris Noelle Billings of Whitesville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Always popular, Gina loved dance, team swimming, horseback riding and being known as a "redneck," but the truest joy of her life was spending time with family. She was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and had a top 10 national standing for Team Penning and Games.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville. There will be a private funeral service held later at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Stanards Cemetery.
JOHN MILTON HARRIS
WILMINGTON, Del. -- John Milton Harris, 79, of Wilmington, Del., died of cancer Saturday (October 2, 2004) at his home.
He was born in Wellsville in 1925. He spent one year at Alfred University, joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1945 with a BS in chemical engineering. He attended USNR Midshipman School at Columbia University and spent one year in the Pearl Harbor Shipyard.
After discharge from the Navy in 1946, he worked for two companies before joining DuPont Co. in 1952. Most of his career was spent in the Engineering Department Design Division before retiring in 1985.
He helped found the Warehouse project of First Unitarian Church in 1991 and was co-chair until it closed in 2003. He was a volunteer tax counselor for AARP Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program for the past 14 years.
He also had volunteered at Deaf Contact, hagley Museum, U of D Extension Service as a financial counselor and Brandywine High School as a tutor. He was a board member of the Unitarian-Universalist Retirement House in Philadelphia for 10 years. He was a member of the Dupont Country Club, playing both tennis and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Roxanne; daughter, Sue Elizabeth Harris of Marblehead, Mass.; sons, Stephen and Paul of Wilmington, and son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Cherie, of San Mateo, Calif.; grandchildren, Matthew and Kristin Wetherbee of Marblehead, and Bryan and Henry Harris of San Mateo; and a brother, Kenneth Harris, of Huntsville, Ala.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE, of the Opportunity Center, Inc., 3030 Bowers St., Wilmington, DE.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Road, Wilmington. Arrangements by Cremation Service of Delaware.
HERBERT C. SCRIVENER
CANANDAIGUA -- Herbert C. Scrivener, 81, of Canandaigua, died Tuesday (October 5, 2004) at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ardith (McIntire) Scrivener of Canandaigua; one daughter, Karen (Mark) Winchell of Gorham; three sons, E. Michael (Kimberly) Scrivener of Lyons, Alan Scrivener of Canandaigua and Warren (Jacqueline) Scrivener of Scio; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Grace) Scrivener of Athens, Pa., and Daniel (Dot) Scrivener of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Emma Carloon.
Mr. Scrivener was formerly of Riverside Drive in Wellsville. He was a former member of the Wellsville VFW and Kmart Breakfast Club. Mr. Scrivener was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was employed at the VA Medical Center in Bath and Canandaigua for many years, retiring in 1972.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 47 North Main St., Canandaigua, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main St., Athens, Pa. His funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lowery Funeral Home. Interment will be in Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, Pa. DENNIS C. RUMFELT
SCIO -- Dennis C. Rumfelt, 53, of Church Street, formerly of Conesus, died Saturday (October 2, 2004) at Jones Memorial Hosptial, in Wellsville.
He was born the son of Ralph and Marion Connolly Rumfelt on April 12, 1950, in Rochester.
He was a Vietnam Veteran, a Sgt. of the Marine Corps. He was a member of the Belmont American Legion, a Board of Director of the Scio Free Library, past president of the Scio Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; a son, James (Lori) Rumfelt of Andover; grandchildren, Makenzy, Bryce, Evan and Allison; a brother, Douglas (Bonnie) Rumfelt of Hemlock; sister-in-law, Carolyn Rumfelt of California; aunts, Norma Rumfelt of Livonia Center, and Dora Thompson; uncle Daniel (Barb) Connolly of Hemlock; several nieces, and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends may attend a military, graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Knight's Creek Cemetery on county Route 9 in Scio. ARLEE J. JEFFERS
GENESEE, Pa. -- Arlee J. Jeffers, 79, of Genesee, Pa., died Monday (October 4, 2004) in his home.
Born Dec. 16, 1924, in Harrison Valley, Pa., he was the son of Arthur and Katie (Knickerbocker) Jeffers. On Oct. 7, 1945, in Whitesville, he married the former Gladys G. Outman, who predeceased him in 1999.
Mr. Jeffers was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a machinist with Air Preheater in Wellsville for 34-years, retiring in 1984. He was a life member of the Carl E. Hyde American Legion Post #963 in Ulysses, Pa., and the Genesee Rod and Gun Club.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, and camping.
Surviving are, a son, Donald (Linda) Jeffers of Genesee; a daughter, Carolyn (Charles) Hemphill of Genesee; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel E. (Urvil) Outman of Genesee, Velma (Harvey) Vallieres of Whitesville, and Beverly M. (Verl) Cook of Genesee; nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Lou Dunbar; five sisters; and two brothers.
