FISHKILL -- Debra B. Hughes, 50, of Fishkill since 1976, died Tuesday (January 18, 2005) at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
WELLSVILLE - Florence Fitch, 84, died Monday (April 3, 2006) at Jones Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
GENESEE, Pa. - Christa Y. Stone, 31, of Genesee, died Monday (April 3, 2006).
ALLENTOWN - Richard M. Babbitt, 70, of 1155 White Hill Road, died Monday (April 3, 2006) in his home, after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
GREENWOOD - Glenn “Stub” James Lounsberry, 69, of Greenwood died Friday (March 31, 2006) at his winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla., under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.
BELMONT - George S. Brown, 92 of 5592 Cemetery Hill Road died on Saturday (April 1, 2006) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
WELLSVILLE - Margaret W. Bunnell, 94, of 2033 Stannards Road, died Tuesday (March 28, 2006) in the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville after a long illness.
Arnold, MD - Leslie A. (Newland) Thomas, 43, formerly of Wellsville, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Arnold, Md.
CUBA - Donald R. Pettit, 75, of 8517 North Branch Road, Cuba, died Saturday, (April 8, 2006) in Olean General Hospital.
WELLSVILLE - Mary J. Culbert, 85, of 2366 Stannards Road died on Monday (April 10, 2006) at home. Arrangements, under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc.
WELLSVILLE - Louis P. “Louie” Bianco of Trapping Brook Road passed away Friday (March 31, 2006) at Jones Memorial Hospital.
WELLSVILLE - Bonnie L. Warboys, 59, of 1423 Alma Hill Road died unexpectedly on Saturday (April 15, 2006) at ECMC in Buffalo, NY.
Professor Peter Ward, former Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel of the New York Department of Insurance and the last of his generation of a prominent Buffalo family, died peacefully in his sleep in Gainesville, Florida, Good Friday, April 14, 2006.
WELLSVILLE - James Joseph Schaffner, 85, formerly of Wellsville, died Sunday (April 16, 2006).
WELLSVILLE - Paul S. Canessa of Johnson Street passed away Thursday (Feb. 7, 2008) at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1910, in North Adams, Mass., to Paul and Margaret (Clarke) Canessa. In 1942, in Wellsville, he married Mary Lou Walther, who predeceased him Jan. 14, 2000.
At age 16, Paul began to work on shortwave radios and later graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an electrical engineer. He had worked at General Electric and was a professor of electrical technology at Alfred University, and he retired in 1971. His memberships include the Immaculate Conception Church, the Elks Lodge No. 1495, the Moose Lodge No. 601, the Knights of Columbus Council 919 of Wellsville and the Olean Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Paul was a 30-year-plus financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus and, along with his father-in-law, worked to buy a building for the Knights in Wellsville. In his later years, Paul and Mary Lou spent their winters in Florida, and he enjoyed reading and repairing old clocks.
Survivors include five nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church with Monsignor Vincent Becker as celebrant. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
